Awesome advice here........but with some animals with separation anxiety it would not matter how wonderful or smelly the food is their level of anxiety is so high they are unable to eat UNLESS the owner is home, some don't even drink either. You could leave them their daily food or kongs when you leave but they will not eat them until you return.

I have a "velcro" poodle sitting beside me.... We start some "proper poodle work/training" on Saturday  ....in the hope of doing some agility. He is 18mths old, all he has previously had to do was stand in the show ring and look pretty!! :D

Don"t feel bad.....you haven't done it to him. Some dogs are just more predisposed to sep anxiety. Lots of dogs owners on here have dealt with it. I know I have....

Cats do this all the time!!! We call it "the stinky cat face" here!! They have a large Jacobsen organ. It is very similar to when a human does the whole "wine tasting time"....swirling it the mouth with air & making the gross slurping sound!!.....Me....I just swallow it :D If you want to see another good example....entire male dogs when sniffing at bitches or their urine , often teeth chatter as well as drooling & slobbering!

Should You Breed, Does It Change A Male Dog
Poodle Mum replied to best4koda's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy is a happy dog who loves everyone. But he does have to check all dogs....esp bitches  If you think about it a male having a mating is a pretty good example of self rewarding behaviour. So of course they will what to check out all the bitches  -

Upgrade To Show Trolley Or Grooming Table With Wheels?
Poodle Mum replied to monkeydo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Definately trolley :) I upgraded from by heavy 20 year old trolley a few months ago to a big light weight aluminum one. Its higher, so for me thats great! Its strong enough to cart all the stuff. Its big enough for my male std poodle to stretch out comfortably too :D Its also in the lounge room in the corner as a crate!!....The cats have taken over the top as their fav place to hang out... -
They can be Limited Registered if they crop up in a Main Registered litter. They just can't be obviously be used for breeding within our and other registries. My take on it is... the op should have taken notes of lines known to carry the "parti" gene and rally up others who also like the gene and either create another registry or lobby for the dogs with that colouring to be accepted eventually into the ANKC registry. Thats right Parti coloured poodles can't be used in a breeding program here in Aust. I also put this link in the other thread.. this is the breed standard. http://www.ankc.org.au/Breed_Details.aspx?bid=196 It clearly lists parti colours as a fault. Why breed dogs for obvious faults...other than your own person preferance...she said she imported a couple....and the other reason is.....$$$$

No!....unfortunately, but that would be a whole other topic!

Thanks for clearing that up Nekhbet....you have answered my question & restored my faith in DOL....was being to feel invisible on threads

Wish I could offer someone that needs a dog. On a side note......How does a catholic priest have a family..

I think most pet owners have felt how you are feeling.....I know I have! You can only do the best that you can at the time.....don't beat yourself up. Considering the age of your peke would def go for the removal, not think " what if"! and treat the good eye.

When Should I Worry About A Constipated Dog?
Poodle Mum replied to Inka3095's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yay.....well done. I tin of wet dog food (I didn't say PAL! )would keep things moving too :) -
I would go for the eye out as well. They are very small odds of vision returning in a ruptured eye. Plenty of animals manage with one eye, they bounce back very quickly after the op....of course depending on the age of the animal. It sounds like he has been only using one for a while. Good luck with your decision......Don't forget the E-collar after the surgery. :D

When Should I Worry About A Constipated Dog?

I would take her to the vets this morning. A young pup could have munched up anything! -
Thanks DLB....they look great. Now if I only had a "recipe" on how to make the lead that would be awesome! :)

Advice Wanted Re: Problem Dog
Poodle Mum replied to Everythings Shiny's topic in General Dog Discussion
Best veterinary behaviour specialist is Kersti Seksel at Sydney behaviour service in seaforth or one of her associates. -
I teach puppy training classes at my vets. If someone is planning on showing....(like me.. )...I tell them not to worry about sit, just work on the stand. Just the same as if I have an elderly owner & a small lap dog....I don't worry if they don't get their pup to drop, but keep practicing a nice reliable Sit. I show my poodles and I don't bother teaching sit til they have finished in the confirmation ring! I used to try and do both, but I bait my poodles into a free stand. Its just what works for me....and at home stand & look at me means the same as sit for my "showies" :D

Advice Wanted Re: Problem Dog

How long did you keep her on the meds for? -
I have been many, many years ago to his seminars! I am interested in going, but my boy has only just been cut down from the confirmation ring. We haven't done much "serious" training.....sit. down etc. I am wondering if it is worth taking him......or if we will both end up looking like twits!!

Lots of good advice already. Hopefully you have practiced handling your pup, so getting grooming won't be too bad. You pup must have a pretty fluffy face by now or else more shitzu than poo. I too would recommend clipping, esp if you live in a tick prone area. Good luck :)

Great idea SM  Merry Christmas to you from the central coast poo's :D
