  1. I have a 70 - 200 f2.8 I would like a big more reach for some enclosures and a few times at Monarto I have found 70 not wide enough but that is rare - mostly it is length I want. I still find I can get what I want though, it just means cropping.

    Angel.

Such sad news, it just doesn't seem possible that she was an old girl Run free with Web and Shiva now Angel - I am sure you will all be running amok up there.
  3. I love my zoo membership and wish I was closer to Monarto to visit it more. I love the zoo for practicing with different settings as there are so many different subjects and in Adelaide Zoo you have the beautiful gardens as well.
  4. Oh yes, I agree that if there are other issues it then becomes a different scenario but thought I would share that in the case of "just" glaucoma it is not as bad a surgery as it seems.
  5. For what it's worth - if it is glaucoma and eye removal is suggested, don't discount it. A friend had her dog done a few years ago now and she was happier and more comfortable within days. The pressure is apparently painful and with the pain gone she became a much happier dog very quickly and as the vision had already gone there was no adjustment period for loss of sight for her. Good luck.
  6. All puppies have to be taught not to bite regardless of the breed. I can't say I have had a problem with any of my bcs nipping at heels as puppies - trying to play tug with shoe laces and trouser bottoms, yes. But when I instructed puppy preschool that question would be asked pretty much with every group and from owners of a wide variety of breeds.
  7. The right border collie could fit into your circumstances, others may not. But the same could be said of many breeds. Be prepared to take time to bold a relationship with a breeder and be honest about your circumstances and what you want/need and work with them and they should help to select the right puppies from the litter for you or be honest if they did not have any in the litter they felt would suit the environment. I will put it this way - had I received that enquiry, I would have been happy to talk more, meet you, meet the kids and see where it went from there. Good luck :)
  8. 1 year ago today you told us that it was time to say good bye. The night before you were a little quiet but I had no idea that 12 hours later we would need to say good bye. I think of you all the time and it still hurts to say your name. Everywhere I go, everything I do with Jazz and Cinna I think about you and what you would have done, how you would have reacted how awesome you were. Cinna takes after you in so many ways, there is no reason she should but she does. Sometimes I look at her and think it is you and the pain is there when I realise it isn't you. Not enough time has passed for the wounds to be healed yet.
  9. I saw pics of that puppy that Karen was trying to claim as her own, cute! Congrats on the 2 titles :) Our first trial for the year was cancelled so we have to wait until June. After Aretha and Jazz's success at the BC Nationals I just want to get back out there again.
  10. Well done PME and Superminty! I got to ask though - how do you retire BEFORE the outrun?? I'm guessing you had issues at the start post?
  11. Only just saw this so probably a bit late for good luck PME. Hopefully they both did well for you. I find PT not bad so long as the dog will fetch sheep to you and you have a stop.
  12. I'm still amazed at the changes in Viet's baby in just a week. And that she was in such a great spot for you to get a photo!
  13. I have used this as my back up emergency food. http://www.petbarn.c...t-dog-food.html No good for training treats but the dogs love it. It is expensive but you feed a lot less and it rehydrates about 4:1 so 1kg becomes 4kg.... I have always wanted to use Ziwipeak but just can;t get past the price. eta: Looks like Natural Pet Store have the K9 Natural cheaper than Pet Barn. I lie that I have a Pet Barn near work and I have sometimes wondered in and found it on special.
  14. Oh that's sad I think Adelaide Zoo have been lucky that she is suck a good Mum.
  15. I was thinking of your 400mm lens while trying to get pics of them on the highest branches!
  16. Wow! What a journey so far. Good luck for the next few months and hoping they develop into lovely, healthy, strong puppies :)
  17. Adelaide Zoo has some new additions. We went in today to see the new white cheek gibbon baby and were surprised by these right near the main entrance: Capybara are the largest rodents. These little guys were born this morning. Hard to believe by looking at them that they were less than 12 hours old in these photos. They are very mobile and have eyes open already. The new gibbon baby is about 5 days old. Apparently they are critically endangered and there are also not many in captivity. This is the third gibbon bred at Adelaide Zoo in 130 years. The second 1 - Nhu is about 3 years old and still there and very interested in the new addition. We spent ages watching and hoping Mum would bring her new addition down from the out of the tree tops to give us a good view. It is amazing the way they cling on: This is older sister Nhu And the delightful Dad
  18. Funny, I had this thread open and then went and looked at Facebook and a friend had shard this link: http://www.henryhottie.com/our-story/
  19. Well done with Cash. There was a trial in NEW yesterday and I read at least 1 person got a pass in novice but on sheep. I had planned to enter with Jazz but then she got an inter pass so can't do that now.
  20. Yes, I heard they had been difficult and was expecting issues so was pleasantly surprised. They were on the lighter side, but the suits me anyway :) And Ann got a perfect 100 from advanced B, so they must have been ok out there as well.
  21. Ah well, Jazz there in season would not have helped your cause! LOL I am just impressed she pulled it back together - our 2 advanced duck runs were a total disaster. A combination of her being in season and me. First part of her Inter run was crap too but once we got them in the Y it all came together, thankfully. We lost it a little bit at the turn to the Centreline Gates as well - the draw in that corner i ver strong as you well know so they shot off down there and it was a bit shaky getting them back online and into the gap. I found the sheep drove far better than I was expecting and I was pleasantly surprised.
  22. The nationals were great and there was some fantastic work. I am so annoyed I couldn't get out to the B Course and see the perfect score gained on Advanced B. I had mixed results with my guys. Cinna has had a loss of confidence and started to stress part way through her PT run so I pulled her out. Jazz is in season so had to run at the end of each section of the trial when the area was no longer required. A course ducks were being held in an off leash running area and she was incredibly distracted then I made things worse and got all confused with the reversed course and confused her and it all went downhill so we withdrew. Had a few minutes break and tried again but just couldn't get it together. She had her Inter A sheep run next and after a ratty start she got it together and got her first Intermediate pass on sheep with an 84. Her last run, started b ducks was the next day. I have no experience with started B ducks and made a mess of it - it was a good lesson in where not to stand! Worked it out at the first gate and pulled it back together and ended up with a nice 82 for her first pass there. The star of the trial was Aretha. She is Jazz's daughter from her first litter and lives with my very good friend who has trained her to PT but then got too stressed so asked me to take over. I have hardly trained her but we figured we may as well enter her int he Nationals as we would all be there. Before I went through the gate I warned her if she was not working well I would be pulling her out. While walking the course with the judge I realised I had never worked an obstacle with her. Not the ideal way to be going into a trial! Well she blew me away with some lovely lovely work and an 87. For our second run I said not to expect it to go as well as the first run. Well you could have blown me away when I found we had scored 98!! She did an amazing job of reading the stock and was so responsive, not at all like the dog I have trained before. We ended up RUHIT behind the very worthy winner of HIT - Ann Moy's Jinnie.
  23. I think she was probably taking pics of the dogs working so camera already up. Definitely 1 of those lots of noise and no damage disagreements by the looks of it. And if they are her dogs or she knows the dogs it could be that she knows it is just a telling off/sorting out and not likely to be harmful.
  24. Border Collies are in the Pastoral group in the UK. The Samoyed won Best In Group in the Pastoral Group (and I think went runner up in show). I haven't managed to find a breed video yet. Loads of BCs in the agility and heel work to music though :)
  25. Another lens added to the wish list! :) Looking forward to seeing what you get from it.
