Surely a kennel could come up with something better than Chum. I'd be pretty pissed if I was paying good money for my dog to eat crap in a can. Eventhe thought of cleaning up after chum fed dogs is repulsive. Eew! If I had a difficult eater (which I don't ) I would supply my own food, rather than it eat Chum <<....shudder. We use Pro Plan or Eagle pack dry for the boarders at work and rarely get a refusal. A smidgeon of Natures gift or Eaglepack canned soon tempts those that are a problem. And when they won't eat natures gift either? Then they got Chum...the majority of those dogs were eating at home too. This is not what the majority of dogs got - maybe 1 dog a month that had issues and wouldn't eat. Some dogs even came in with their own PAL or Chum...And they hardly got a whole can of it - just a spoonful mixed in with good quality kibble so they would eat that. I wasn't the one paying the bills for food, what I would have done differently food wise I didn't have the bosses permission for...again another reason I dont work there anymore. So, you fed something other than what the owners requested? Went to the trouble of bringing in a specific dog food, but you changed it because YOU think its crap? Don't know why my reply disappeared when I posted...but here it is again... The owners that bought in tinned food (3 regulars) did so because they got the food at home and wanted it mixed in with the dry food the kennel provided. I assured them all the time that there was tinned food on hand that would be provided at no extra cost but they liked to bring in their own. I would never give a dog an entire tin of chum - it would go straight through them. Happy Squid...

I found that Morgan was really itchy on Advance (and drank excessive amounts of water) but was gradually changing her off her breeders diet to my preferred dry. Shes been far less itchy now she is on Artemis

Dog Fight, What To Put On Punture Wounds?
poocow replied to Missymoo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think it would be best to take them to the vets and get them checked over as puncture wounds can become infected. For yourself some antiseptic and a tetnus jab if you are not up to date with that. Hope you are ok. -
Yeah I was hoping to do it next year as well. I've heard great things about it and its been on my 'To do' list for ages.

Oh yeah I forgot about Hills I/D - Darcy had some of that when he was recovering from parvo.
-
I think the only things Morgan will win will be by default as she is the only Field usually
-
Darcy is on there, not Morgie. Yeah I was - but she was the only Field entered!

Best of luck Bindii! The 26th is our 2nd show! Don't have a stacked pic, but here is Morgan:

Which show Bec - Morisset? She should come to Rylstone, thats where all the cool kids are going ;)

I've used Nature's Gift before when flavouring kibble - also Eagle Pack & Ziwipeak but they are expensive. Talking from running a kennel perspective I would add a bit of chum to those dogs food who would not touch the raw or the chicken and rice roll. I'd mix it in with the dry and usually they would woof that down. When running a kennel you have to go with what they will eat to keep the weight on them. It was usually those dogs that got tinned food at home that didn't know what to make of the raw/rolls.

I might be doing a Hillsborough show in Sept - have to confirm with the others.
-
angelsophie - you are probably thinking of Kabova - they have a trailer with their prefix and pug stickers on it.
-
Whereabouts are you going to do show training?
-
Nice run Kavik - am way to scared to run Doog - I know I will just stuff up ADAC looks to be an easier course than ANKC.

Do You Go To Dog School In The Rain?
poocow replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah thats normally the case with ours too. With show training we have a hall to use instead so thats ok. -
Glad Sweep seems to be improving!

I go to Luci Ellem on Wednesday nights at Austral She also has a class on Tuesday nights.

Glad to see I am not the only one I can soooooo see toby doing something naughty like going toilet and trying to eat it I took him to show training and he was okay with the other dogs but I am not sure how he will go with alot in one area. Prob try to bark and get them all to play. He is an only puppy at the moment so its all too exciting when we see other dogs....... The shows locally have been a bit scarce so watching the process has been limited. Did the judge instruct you on what to do when, or did you just know? Bec Edited to add what a gorgeous puppy you have .......and such a practical colour I've been to show training, and hung around at a lot of shows prior to getting a pup. So just knew what to do. Kind of helped that I knew the judge as she was originally going to be my cocker breeder but I ended up going with a Field. She made me feel relaxed and gave Morgan a really good experience in the ring. Yeah the mud blends in

I showed for the first time on Friday (10th July) with my Field Spaniel Morgan. She won BPOB (by default) but went to mush in the group line up and didn't even get a second look. She was so naughty rolling around chewing on her lead, what an embarresment! My breeder is 5 hours away so I am learning a lot on my own especially all the grooming.

Thanks for that - Darcy is the same as Ronin - if he escaped he would just sit on the front door step and wait for someone to get home and let him inside so he could get on his lounge He is made of rubber too - can fit through pool fence bars.
-
Are pointees prone to being escape artists? I just worry if I do eventually get one that I will have to make my fences (6 ft) like fort knox to stop them getting out.
-
I know with Darcy I was told not to come as exciting him could make him worse. I saw him a couple of times though as I was falling apart without my heart dog. In regards to money I borrowed off my parents and paid them back. My vet would have let me pay it off to him anyway - he'd do anything for Doog. Plus I got a massive discount which helped.
-
You can't think negative thoughts, I know its hard, there were so many times I thought Darcy was gone, but they do dig deep and fight.
-
hun, I'm so sorry Sweep is sick Haven't been online today so only just saw this then. I know how hard it is, I was a mess the whole fortnight Doog was in the vet last time. I just tried to keep busy reading or watching tv, being on DOL etc. The support I had for Darcy last time really helped.
