  1. that's great now hints for my Onsy - he is scared of the LIte and Easy box, it was on the front door step delivered whilst we were on our walk (first time), and Onsy refused to go past it.
  2. and at least the competition is aimed at the right people unlike the dreadful one last year that was aimed at teenage girls who like the look for a fluffy until they actually have to pick up their poop or they spew or do something that even cute fluffies coz they are dogs do. most farmers would be rapt to win this prize, from memory Casterton kelpies are very well known and sought after.
  3. i'm so sorry for your loss. he looked a beautiful boy think of the happy memories that you had together RIP Gordie, run free of pain at Rainbow Bridge
  4. My Onslow will second the yoghurt. He hates plain kibble but a spoon ful of yoghurt makes the kibble go down I just get the plain low fat one, he loves it! if it's a mince night leaving the kibble dry he comes and stares at me until I get the yoghurt out to put on it and his tail wags - nope I''m sure he isn't spoilt
  5. my mum is always at me about how cruel prong collars are. yet I do not condone any sort of animal cruelty whatsoever but i do use a prong collar my large golden retreiver was a terrible puller, hated walking him, didn't walk him as much, probelm got worse because he would be excited on walks, got a prong collar properly fitted, lesson in how to use it, used it for perhaps 3 months, started walking my golden more frequently as walks were far more enjoyable, now he walks perfectly in a flat collar :-) with the occassional walk in a prong just for a little reminder - surely that is not being cruel at all to a dog but only to Onslow's benefit. I still use Tilly's more frequently as she still pulls, although 15 months old just an excitable pup really still but she isn't very big so can't pull me over So I can't sing the praises of a prong collar high enough.
  6. and of course be very sensible about not feeding fatty bits of meat, my friend's golden retreiver had to be pts after eating steak trimmings because he got pancreaitis
  7. Onsy doesn't agree with Horus! my foster puppy at 5 months old was half cocking his leg to wee then Onslow would come along and wee over the top but in "his little girl way" not the proper boy way although he doesn't squat, he stretches his front and back legs out and wees. I'm glad though he still isn't cocking his leg at 2 1/2. I thought the foster pup might teach him but he didn't cotton on.
  8. Tilly's breeder told me to put Tilly's food in a large baking tray and spread it around. Haven't tried it but I would think it would work as the food is spread out.
  9. i'm so sorry to hear of your loss but how wonderful you are for making Rosie's last years such happy ones. She looked like a beautiful little girl. How sad she looked in her pound photo and just hte difference by the first photo you took, she knew she was home!
  10. we have quite large classes where I do dog training, one of the reasons I was so pleased Onsy passed into second class on his first day of first class coz the size of that class was unbelievable. but they do the best they can. I'm going to Steve at K9 Force this Saturday for a private lesson, my first in relation to obedience not behavioural, I'm really looking forward to it. My goal is though to trial Onsy so wanted to start right from the start properly. But I won't be able to go that often coz it's about a five to six hour drive for me. But well worth it i'm sure.
  11. that's great! Well done. That's what Onslow and I aspire to. He is awesome at obedience work, it's a pity about his trainer though
  12. Rest peacefully Page free of pain and illness. With loving memories of your family and little Jet surrounding you. My condolences to Page's family. And Ambervale I hope that you are alright, sending you hugs.
  13. my maltese wasn't fond of other dogs, she would often growl and snarl at them. If I ever took her to a dog park if we were staying at mum's she wouldnt' play with the other dogs, she would wander off trying to find ways out of the fully fenced area coz that was more fun for her and a challenge to her. She loved people though. and in fact if any dogs came wandering over to her on our street walks I would have to be very careful that she didn't threaten them so they wouldnt' threaten back - it's a bit odd telling owners of great danes to take their dogs away as your maltese is about to attack it as I have had to. having said that if friends dogs came over or my other dog she was fine with, she didn't feel threatened by them, provided they understood she was the boss. so my suggestion is continue socialisation with friends and their dogs if he enjoys that, walks in the street, car rides with a walk at the other end in a quiet area but visits to the doggy park shouldn't happen, best to do what he enjoys doing not what you think he would enjoy doing :-) most of all continue to be his friend :-) and when you can afford to see a behavourilist I would suggest that as well. I'm also hoping that the dog is desexed because otherwise that may account for some of the behaviour.
  14. she is very very cute thanks for sharing her photo! glad to hear she is well on the mend.
  15. hopefully feeling much better and don't forget we love photos
  16. and it seems as you have made a very funny joke that you are less stressed too which is good! our babies really worry us at times particularly when they are unwell. i'm glad you took your little girl to the vet and insisted in going again. Follow their advice and hopefully she will be back to normal puppy behavour very soon, looking for things to chew again no doubt
  17. at my puppy school at the vets we were shown a video for the first half hour. Our puppies were allowed to sit on the table in front of us being held, on our laps, being patted whatever that would keep them quiet and happy. We then went downstairs and the puppies could play. The whole three sessions were interactive of play time then sitting by owners but no puppy was made to sit still, they could stand, sit on laps, wander and make friends with the people sitting next to them (as Tilly constantly did) or whatever, just had to be near their owner and on their lead. Pups couldn't sit still for an hour! and as was posted you woudl be lucky to get a mature dog doing that!
  18. sorry but thought you should know. never seen anything like it in a dog. I think Kyra may have an under shot jaw though. My own Cavalier, Poppy, RIP, was fine with chicken wings but she would chew them. mashed up chicken necks may be the way to go then - but I think you are very brave mashing them up Certainly giving them bones is the right thing to do, Kyra has hardly any teeth left coz mum was too scared to give her any bones of any sort.
  19. my mum's cavalier "inhaled" a chicken wing, lucky we were there to pull it out as it was stuck down her throat. But she just vacuums her food up rather than eats it, greedy little cavalier! I give my chicken bones - raw - carcasses if I go to Woolies and get them. mine don't get chicken necks coz I can't stand the sight of them but chicken wings are fine. I do feed my chicken drumsticks but have been told that's a no no. I cant leave mine with the bigger meat bones because my boy goes ballistic and all the hard work we have done together to solve his dominance problems goes out the window. as I like them to get some bones that they can eat immediately I get chicken. I think if you are going to give chicken bones always be there and keep an eye out if there are problems, don't leave them with a nice chicken bone and go out for the day.
  20. Onslows mum is and crawling back into her cave. Sorry. Onslows mum didn't get Tilly and Onslow Nutro but got Nutrience Large Breed Holistic Crunch with duck and oat - I think I got that bit right. I threw out the packet so I checked on the website of Nutro and then had a so checked Nutrience. Tilly and Onslow are enjoying the Nutrience but will be going back to Eaglepack. Something a bit different every now and again wouldn't go astray anyway would it? very sorry for misleading everyone :p It's a pity we don't get Holistic Nutro thought, my friends in USA rave about it.
  21. I clipped my boy golden retreiver last year and did it this year again. My girl has a finer coat so I won't clip her. I did it last year because Onsy loves swimming, he woud run through paddocks and be covered in burrs and he was always panting. His coat was much easier to look after and he was cooler. One thing though is his pigment of his skin is very dark so I don't think sunburn will be a problem, it wasn't last year and we lived in a hotter town. he also has a backyard full of shady trees, a kennel and under the house if he is outside and he gets hot. he looks like an overgrown labrador coz he is very tall. I certainly didn't do it because he sheds hair everywhere, he does that anyway as does Tilly. Goldens are not the dogs to have if you are a fascidious (sp?) housekeeper! Mars coat king are also great for grooming and getting the hair out.
  22. i'm glad he is better, I hate it when our dogs get sick, my maltese used to get alot of tummy upsets but she outgrew them as she got older. She used to do odd things too when she was unwell, probably lying in the dirt was cooler for poor Sammy, putting him where he did not want to be and making him stay there would not have helped him at all. Although Daisy was an inside dog she would often prefer to be outside when she was unwell, guess nearer grass to eat if she wanted to and as well she would have been upset about disgracing herself inside.
  23. Tilly was fed on Eaglepack large breed puppy and the vet said that she was the healthiest puppy that she ever had seen. When she was over 6 months switched both of them over to Eaglepack large breed Holistic, far less poos, and both with good coats, shiny eyes. They like it as well and Onslow was a very fussy eater. Two golden retreivers, Tilly is 1 next month, Onslow turned 2 in December. I liked the holistic as it didn't have corn in it and I have heard that goldens are prone to cancer and corn can be a contributing factor and Onsy's dad died of cancer at an early age. the only problem for me is that living in the country I have to be organised and order in advance which sometimes I forget to do. At the moment because I was near a pet shop that sold it I have Nutro Holistic large breed Duck and Oatmeal I think. It is more expensive than the Eaglepack so I will go back to that.

    Hiccuping Puppy

Onsy used to constantly hiccup as a pup too but never does now. Guess it is just a puppy thing, that's what the vet told me as well.
  25. he must have been reading DOL and wanted to make a liar out of his mummy saying he doesn't like eating that's great news. Onsy was never a big eater when he was younger, left his breakfast out for him in the morning, still there when I got home. He still now savours every mouthful. he also is a very lazy dog. Tilly demolishes her food like she hasnt been fed for a week and runs around non stop, so I guess every dog is different. Now getting a bit older he may eat better. Keep perservering with the down, when you can get a full vetcheck and hope all goes well with your puddy tat.
