  1. If a dog needs antiserum they have to stay at the vet. Just so you know for future reference. The serum can make them feel very sick.
  2. It could still have been a tick and just that the tick meds did their job. Sometimes they are impossible to find. I would still keep him quiet for another few days just to be sure. Pleased he is okay though. :)
  3. This!! You will be doubling up on the same chemical (advantix) so some advise against it but I did it for years with no problems. I'd be doing it right now if I suspected a tick. The main thing right now is to keep him quiet. Even if you find a tick and pull it off they can show symptoms for a week or so after so the dog should be kept quiet for this time frame. They are sneaky little buggars and could be down his ear canal, up his butt, in his gum etc etc.
  4. Greylvr, running a rescue isn't rocket science like some would lead you to believe. Just be open and ethical and you'll do fine. Everyone starts somewhere and you already have experience. There is no perfect rescue group (well, I can actually think of a few but I am sure others would fault them ) so just do your best. The best thing you can probably do is step back from DOL a bit as it will cause no end of grief with criticisms etc. Interesting, that the three groups that I find the most well run and ethical, none have anything to do with this forum. The only thing which makes me a bit uncomfortable, and I might not have understood it correctly - is taking dogs from the one trainer and asking for donations. It's kind of a bit too close to a private rehoming IYKWIM. Anyway, good luck with it all!
  5. Im so sorry for your loss. She looks like a much loved and very pretty girl
  6. I pay $28 a day for one of my dogs to be boarded in someones home. $12 is dirt cheap.
  7. I like my dogs lean. I always look at other Pugs and think they are overweight. That being said I find it very hard to find a good balance with Alvin. He either looks fat or too lean for his body so Ive just had to concede and keep him slightly chubs - well IMO be is a bit chubs but other Pug people see him and comment on how fit and lean he is. There is an elderly woman in town who pounds the pavement with her Pug twice a day. It is the fittest, leanest Pug Ive ever seen. She does look a bit odd though, I thought the dog was older than she was. The second you get them lean like a normal dog they look sunken. I know she's not suffering or malnourished, she is just really fit and the owner is firm with her diet. It's weird, cos when I had my Bulldog and kept her lean, she looked lean and buff and in good proportion. You would think the same would apply with Pugs Alvin is about 6kgs I think?. He is a small Pug all over though. People who arent Pug people always call him fat, then Pug people say he's very fit looking and ask how I manage it. It's weird, cant explain it.
  8. Not necessarily. I couldnt wait to change my all my pups diets from what they're breeders were feeding them. Do your own research and slowly switch the diet over. If I fed my dogs what they're breeders fed, they'd still be on supercoat, coles brand dry and weetbix. Yuk! My Pug did well on Holistic Select Fish and lately BARF. Both far superior diets than what the breeder feeds.
  9. I would steam the chicken and add a little white rice. Good luck, sounds like the little devil is in good hands
  10. Sorry, you're not the only one! I have confused myself and now I don't actually know!! Just went and checked an email from my local supplier (agility club) and it's Earthborn Holistic Ocean Fusion grain free. I pay $85 for 12kg. What is the frequent buyer program? Any idea on what sort of savings? We get a discount through our agility club so just wondering if this discount is comparable! Thanks :D Boy...that's cheap....at my local supplier it is $82 for 6 kilos I paid about $98 for the 12kg ocean fusion last time, and that was when it was on special at petstock. So $85 is pretty cheap. Considering the cost price of Earthborn, $85 for 12kg is very cheap! And the earthborn fish grain free is Coastal Catch, not ocean fusion. There is a new grain free variety too, meadow feast (lamb being the primary) lower in fat and protein. FRee shipping deal on Deals Diect for Earthborn atm, and Hills Prescription http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/search/petfood12/?utm_source=Daily&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=DD_DLY_20121203_Monday
  11. My neighbor had one fly out of her Christmas tree last year They had cut it down at a local tree farm, put it up and two days later a bat flew out when she was on the lounge watching TV My 8yr old found out about it and we we werent allowed to get a tree from there this year.
  12. It's just a far cry from the descriptions/stories you boasted in all the posts you had removed. Your stories are always changing. I have a good memory and call bull sh!t when I see it.
  13. I can't keep up with how many personalities your dog has.
  14. Andrea has no problems rehoming Maremmas to the right homes. She actually prefers to hold on to them for longer than most rescues so they can be put through their paces and assessed properly to ensure it's the right match. Good on you Eyeopener for helping this pup!
  15. Well you know what waiting did last time.. I would be out there on their doorstep. What for? Glemhaith is second on the list and will be contacted if the dog can go to her. Just ease up on all the criticisms about this dog. The bossiness about who should do what in this thread has been astounding and very off putting. I am surprised Glemhaith has hung around at all!
  16. I'm so sorry for your ordeal. Fingers crossed Larry still turns up.
  17. I think there's one in Moss Vale. Might be about 20 mins drive though.
  18. If it's any consolation the staff were probably lovely to your dogs. It sounds like they've been dicked around too. Good luck finding something for Xmas, terrible that she didnt bother informing you.
  19. Antibiotics kill/attack all bacteria. Hence why you often need to keep putting the good ones back into the body when you are taking them. Same goes with humans who are on antibiotics. I thought the general idea was to take the Acidophilus after a course of antibiotics? I'm just trying to understand it more as this is what I have always been told.
  20. I don't know if giving Acidophilus is such a good idea just yet. It might be a waste? I thought the antibiotics killed acidophilus?
