My First Ever Visit To Centennial Park...
Clyde replied to tdierikx's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Awww, I grew up near there and that was my local park. Brings back a lot of lovely memories -
Ask around for another recommendation, she sounds inexperienced :) eta: Not that there is anything wrong with that, everyone starts somewhere, but I guarantee the right groomer could clip your dog from start to finish without traumatizing your wriggly worm. I groom a few like that, the second you give them any kind of acknowledgement they turn themselves inside out with excitement. Grooms are done very quietly

I disagree with this. Dogs always muck up more when the owner is around, making it more distressing for the dog, the owner and the groomer. A lot of mobile groomers cant style to save themselves and the dog will also be distracted by everything else going on around them. An experienced, well recommended salon groomer would be the way to go IMO. If not already you could start getting the dog uses to a hairdryer, if you have en electric toothbrush at home get the dog used to this buzzing around his face and also his feet. The more work you put in at home the easier it is for the dog.

You mean you are using a different boarding kennel right, not the same one that your dog was injured at? Sorry yes, I wasn't very clear. Totally different kennels. No amount of money would convince me to use the other one again!
-
This has happened to me before, I was so upset and furious! The kennel owner was/is also a dol'er.I haven't used kennels since, it was about nine yrs ago. But am using them next week for the first time. They don't mix sbt's regardless of the owners wishes and I feel confident that they will respect my instructions for no socialising. They have a really good rep and loads of clients use them. Still nervous though

Stan makes me laugh, he sounds like my kind of dog

I think this is better than doing a course anyway. Try this page, hopefully you will find a salon in need for some help: https://www.facebook.com/doggroomingcourses?ref=ts&fref=ts

In all fairness though, who boards an entire male Dobe and allows them to run with other dogs? Other dogs will often an attack an entire male.
-
So Koolie Rescue dont commit to taking a Poodle etc. People often get the breeds wrong and most breed specific rescues prefer to only rescue their breed (which is fair enough). I cant even remember how many times I was contacted when I was doing Rotti Rescue, from people wanting to surrender their Kelpie X's which they thought were Rotties. eta: Im sure MUP hasnt got the breed wrong though, just Koolie Rescue would be making sure.

I agree. I say firmly, but still try to be pleasant, that my dog isn't social so please respect our space. 99% of people then glare at us as though I have a child eating dragon at the end of the leash, but I'm not there to make friends so just flip through mags as if Im oblivious. Depending on which dog I have, the receptionist often says I can wait in a spare consult room too.

I have a six week old chook with blocked tear ducts in both eyes. Ive been treating with Amacin but hadn't thought of massaging it, will give it a shot!

Black, white or black and white. So I have Maremmas, a black brindle (black with two brindle hairs) Stafford, with a white chest, and a black Pug. :D
-
I have to admit, ten yrs or ago I didn't. I didn't know any better, but also cant think of any visiting kids back then. I have a kid coming over this avo for a play, the dogs go in their runs and padlocked as I dont trust other kids not to go in for a pat.
-
That poor little boy How I wish people would lock up dogs when kids visit. Away from this forum I dont know anyone who does, just so risky.
-
Wow I didnt realise you had 5 Whippies to train - well done!!- When I did boarding here, I found dogs much easier to get used to my chooks than my cats. I had expected it to be the other way around. Not that Im saying 5 Whippets would have been easy  , I just found it interesting that most of the dogs settled more quickly around chooks than cats.

Yep, clients of mine brought their new black Pug pup over the other day. She is very leggy and longer nose. She has pedigree papers.

That's a real stretch MUP. Im an ex vet nurse and unless a health issue is bleedingly obvious then I disagree that you can tell a dogs health by a photo, skin or otherwise. In fact, it took me weeks to work out that one of my own dogs had demodex and he was right in front of me!

My daughter loves this movie.

French Bulldog With A Prolapsed Bowel
Clyde replied to natalieandcid's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
She was fecally incontinent. The prolapses were due to an extreme case of hookworm (which came with her when we got her from a breeder as a mature adult). We then took her to a specialist after the worms cleared as she kept prolapsing. She also had polyps through her bowel and it turns out she had cancer. We had part of her intestine or something (bowel) removed? Sorry, all a bit hazy it was years ago and that stopped the prolapses but then the cancer had spread to her lungs and she was put to sleep. all this happened in a really short time (6 months or so?) after paying for all the above, plus having her spayed and also palate surgery as she had difficulty breathing. Not to mention the heart ache of getting very attached to her. sorry, still feel bitter about it Hopefully something can be sorted out for your little guy. I do agree with the others that the breeder would (should!) be a good support for you. -
I will check with my daughter later when she comes home. She gets scared easily in movies so cant watch Tuner and Hooch etc so her movies will be up your alley. I think she has watched every dog one at Video Ezy!

French Bulldog With A Prolapsed Bowel
Clyde replied to natalieandcid's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree. I had a British Bulldog with a prolapsed bowel and my vet also told me to feed Pal. You dont want your dog straining to poo at all. While it's not the greatest food (ie pretty darn terrible), plenty of dogs live just fine on it for life - so short term wont hurt. -
I don't understand what you are trying to say here. You dont doubt that Maremma are losing their trait, or you don't worry about it?
-
Thinking of you Griff - she was a one in a million *hugs*
-
Personally, I wouldnt do it. As others have posted above it is doable but I would look for an older dog. I think a rescue dog is a lovely idea.

Kids run up and down my fence line all day long. All dogs should be well fenced.
