MDBA Pacers is begging people who already knit or who would like to knit or know someone else who knits to help us.

You can do this in one of Five ways. You may want to have a go at more than one.

1. You can knit a small item for us for inclusion in our craft exhibition and silent auction. here Categories here Some great starter ideas for this are here

2. You could get all of your family or group members to knit a square and make a small family or group rug or project donation !

3. Or you can contribute a knitted square or two to contribute to the dogz community knitting project. This is designed to include all levels of knitters from novice to expert.

If we all simply add one square we can create an amazing piece of art that will include all sorts of textures, colours and individuality.

What we actually do with the finished project will depend on how many of you are prepared to contribute but every single contribution will be used in some way to help MDBA Pacers to provide help to prevent animal cruelty and promote responsible pet ownership.

You can use different types of wool or wool blend yarns, acrylic yarns and bamboo, soy and cotton fibres, different knitting stitches, or perhaps double up lighter yarn weight like 4 ply.

If you know how to knit and enjoy working with different stitches, (eg stocking, moss, basket weave) or a combination of stitches and patterns, then please enjoy yourself and be creative with your squares. If you don’t know how to knit but would like to give it a go email me [email protected] and I can send you a quick course via email.

Using scrap wool or acrylic yarn is both economical for you and a great way to recycle, especially if you unravel old clothing. Op shops often have bags of wool or acrylic yarn at very low prices. Or you could undo an old garment and recycle the yarn.

You can use any type of yarn, pattern, colour or knitting technique

If you could tell us whether you have used acrylic or wool it will help us to know where to place each square.

The squares have been designed at 8 x 8" (20 x 20 cms) to make sure that they can be quickly made and if you are sending only one to three squares, posted in a regular size envelope for minimum postage.

If you are using 8 ply with 6mm needles – use 32 stitches and keep knitting until all sides are equal. It’s that simple!

4. You can donate raw materials such as yarn, needles or patterns for us to distribute to those who want to help but don’t have the resources to do so without help.

5. You can tell everyone and distribute flyers and information for us.

Anyone at all interested ?

I cant knit, but if you decide to do something like this in crochet let me know

Crochet is good too.

In fact anything is good.

As we have to put it all together sooner is better than later.

We wil also be doing one with quilting just for dogz.
