~Rumour~ Posted April 29, 2011 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I can finally join this thread!! Rumour's home and she's just everything I wanted! When we got to the airport she was sitting in her crate so quietly, the whole car trip she just sat there taking in the world. She has got so well with Diesel and he can't get enough of her. When we first put her in her crate last night she found her voice for a little while but then she slept for 6 hours straight! We then had a small play and toilet break and she went back to sleep for another three hours. So far we have been practicing coming when her name is called and she's so good at it (she will do anything for a tummy rub). We've also done a small training session for sit and she's picking it up quickly. I have wasted so much of today just watching her. And most importantly she loves cuddles! my oy will only cuddle if he's forced to, he just prefers being in the same room as you but not touching. I have the option of a vet puppy class or going to the Southern Obedience Training Club, a community group (which is a lot cheaper as it is all volunteer run!!!). Another stupid question :p : Luke said to me today that Scooter spends way too much time in his crate... but I'm so scared of him picking up bad habits etc. I know he does spend too much time in there but I don't know what to do now. He's 13 weeks old today. How much time do your pups spend 'free ranging'? My main problem is that he can't get down Luke's stairs to toilet so he'll go out to the patio instead (which I don't mind cleaning but le boy is a bit annoyed when it happens). Do you keep the pup on a lead? Or let him run around? He doesn't really listen to me but listens to Luke no worries so I'm not entirely sure what to do. I'm pretty much the worst puppy owner ever LOL. efs Puppy needs to learn to be in open spaces from a young age, let him free roam whilst u can watch him when u cant only allow him acess to areas u trust him in.. dont want him to toilet on the verandah dont let him out there... Dallas my goldie baby goes everywhere with me off lead... to get the mail - quiet street- and around the property at the kennels...however she is pretty feral on lead now hahaha workign on that now ;) When we are at work she is in her pen so has room to play and a spot to sleep (no paper down as she only wees on grass) then at morning tea time she come sout with us and free roams with the Leonberger and Greyhound, she never goes far... when we are at home she is generally whereever i am so if i go in she follows and i have puppy pen panels to stop her going ino rooms i dont want her in like the study and everyone elses bedrooms... she wanders around and plays with her toys... she is 9 weeks old atm and has not had one single accident... she only chews things she isnt meant to when im not watching and that is my fault LOL If she is at the door i let her out and she has toys and what not out there and she plays with my 16 yr old doggie Beau outside she free roams and we have moved things away if we dont want her to play wiht them like shoes etc... but i like her to be free as much as possible and of course she does need to be contained! He would go in the puppy pen when I couldn't watch him or he needed to eat or sleep. He's not had an accident inside since he was 12 weeks old. I'm at the Eastern Shore Obedience Club. Great fun for the pup and I. ...Naomi - Luke has the Crate Games DVD and I keep meaning to watch it... I've watched the first 10 minutes like 5 times... should probably start watching it now actually!! It looks sooo awesome. Are you planning on doing agility with Archie?? OH and I started the training with Archie last night. It didn't take long for him to associate the sound of the door opening with sitting. But we plan on making sure it's really ingrained in his mind before we go to stage two. Hi everyone I have Just found this thread :p I have a new puppy too His name is Rue and his Dandybrush's Willows brother. Wow!! He is a handsome pup. I love tri colours on any breed. Can't wait to watch him grow up. ...After much thought I decided to take Rebus to puppy classes after all and we both had a great time there were 4 other dogs there and at the end they let the puppies play just two at a time in one of the consultation rooms, Rebus went in with a staffy and they got on great both trying to hump each other dogs are so silly lol!! cant wait for next week Archie tried this as well at his very first puppy class. I was surprised that a puppy knew this behavior. LOL. :p I can finally join this thread!!Rumour's home and she's just everything I wanted! She sounds like an angel! I did a vet run school and also one run by Underdog Training with Ren. Depending on if you have had dogs before all puppy classes may or may not be a bit of a waste of time for YOU, but none of them are a waste of time for a PUP. There are a couple of things you can get out of them, firstly of course socialisation. But secondly and to some extent more importantly, its a great training opportunity for you to teach your pup to pay attention to you when there are other distractions around. Both Bronte and Ren went to their vet puppy classes and each were pretty much the only pups that would focus on me when I asked and played when I allowed, the other pups were just there for the free for all and this drove some owners to round the twist. If I've heard it once, I've heard it a hundred times, "why does your puppy listen to you?" Training training training!!! All of it fun, short and happy at this age of course. Watching Pixie Action shot why you looking at me funny mum ?? thanx everyone for your comments , I quiet like him too Alouk - Not all puppy pre school at vets are bad I run the classes down here ,its best to go check them out and see if you like what they are offering. Don't you love that every morning you can get up and find a pup with completely different ears than the night before, its like christmas every day. Seems to me Bronte had her puppy teeth much longer than Ren, who seemed to start teething around 10 weeks. I'm not sure what's normal, but I thought that was a bit early.
