Kenz is now off to the local vet this afternoon. She just came up non weight bearing in her right hind again while we were playing in the yard. I can at least get her some more pain killers until the specialist is back :(.

The chiro vet thinks the problem is neuromuscular rather than muscular skeletal :) - to much terminology. Rheumatoid arthritis did get a mention as a possibility when the specialist requested joint taps/EMG.

Showed the physio another video I took pre starting her on the anti-inflams (from yesterday as I held off 24 hours in order to see if I could get better video for the specialist) and her view is that it doesn't look stifle related but could still be referred pain from the back. So she know also a physio appointment next week in the interim. :(.

Ropeable she wasn't 100% but she had been improving and now since the attack she is struggling more then she was :(.

They better hurry up and refund the vet bill from last week because I desperately need the money before next weeks physio appointment :(.

Interesting - not sure totally what to make of it but she has now been on anti-inflams for a couple of days, she is allowed walks but only short leash walks. We are just back from a walk and she was definitely still having hind end lameness issues and it looked LH.

Very confusing.

My girl has a similar pattern of lameness

I found that anti inflammatories did not help at all as the problem was muscular.

Trigger point therapy is the thing that helps her most, along with acupuncture.

It took us many months to find an answer...it is very frustrating

CavsRcute - thanks for the feedback. Glad to know others have dogs who present as complicated pictures. The chiro vet we use does do acupuncture but at this stage since there is some question over the LH patella he doesn't want to see her back at the moment.

She has a physio appointment booked for Wednesday just because at the moment I don't know what else to be doing and I also know she has been limping on and off for so long I want to make sure she hasn't thrown anything else out of whack in the interim. Its been a couple of months since her last appointment.

Yeah seems to - well in so much as the LH is concerned. She has not had any random RH episodes though. Interesting last 2 nights at bedtime she has had absolutely no hesitation racing up the stairs. Tonight I acted the same as I have the last two nights - she stopped with her front feet on the bottom stair and wouldn't budge. :(. Very bizarre.

Update after her physio appointment - she is a bit of a mess but I am not sure we are any the wiser. Some quite significant soreness in through her back and trigger points in her LH. Going to see how she gets on but apparently if she is worse for a few days as a result of the appointment I shouldn't be surprised.

Oh it wasn't bad , we are hoping it actually helps. The trigger points were all treated. Kenz seems much happier this morning although no anti-inflams at bedtime last night and she wouldn't come up the stairs. Interesting in itself.

It is normal to be sore for a few days after physio though. When my boy goes to the physio she tells me to keep him quiet but moving for a few days (ie not crate rest, but walks on leash, no training, no wild zoomies etc). The muscles are still responding to treatment and take a few days to settle.

No blood tests - specialist hasn't been back yet so I haven't been able to follow that up with him as a possibility.

Yep perfectly normal re the physio and being sore - she has had lots of treatments on and off for the last 2 years so I am well versed in the what to expect after. Its not her first physio appointment she had plenty to help the shoulder.

The physio specifically said no swimming for a bit but other than that she wasn't to worried. She also said normally no stairs but considering Kenz has been self moderating those anyway she wasn't worried. It was the racing up and down she wasn't keen on and Kenz doesn't do that now.

She knows I am sensible about what I will and won't allow and I tend to er on the side of being a little cautious these days anyway. She also understands nutty active dogs as she has working breed dogs herself so understands that they do push themselves so I am pretty confident that she understands what Kenz is like when she specifies what she can and can't do.

The good news is the shoulder that was causing her grief FOREVER apparently feels really good and no evidence of anything to much going on there :).
