The worst fight I ever saw in my house was between 2 entire male Standard Poodles, a breed not usually known for agression. In that case there was food involved and it taught me to always feed them separately and I would always recommend feeding 2 males separately. Feeding time can often be problematical - the 2nd worst fight I ever saw in my own home was between mother & son (with mother getting the best of it) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I recall being at the vet's one night when a roughly 6 month old pup was brought in seriously injured. Male pup had been attacked by his mother.. I think it was PTS. That's what I thought until my 4 year old desexed German Shepherd suddenly took offence (we think it was due to jealousy) to my daughter's boyfriends 7 months old Staffy/Mastiff Cross! It was all I could do to pull my boy off him!! Up until that point they had been best Buds and had many "Play dates". Our fellow has also previously had house guests stay with us for up to a week (Desexed male greyhound) with no problems. He was well socialised as a pup and is always very friendly to other dogs he meets but this one time WOW!! Big Barney! We tried to let them together again after the young fellow had been desexed a few months later and all was well for the next few occassions until BOOF! Same thing again only this time I was indoors and had to run out to seperate them. Scarey thing seperating a dog fight. Poor pup (almost a year old at this stage had teeth marks on his head where the shepherd had him. So I've now told my daughters boyfriend he has to leave his dog at home. LizT Posted July 30, 2010 Share Posted July 30, 2010 LizT the "dilute" gene can be an issue for some breeds but the issues crop up more often in the blue staffys because there are so many bred simply for the colour and not necessarily anything else (good, healthy examples of their breed first and foremost).I believe that blue greyhounds see relatively few issues, because they are not specifically bred to be blue, they are bred for other things (health and sound conformation to enable them to run). If a blue crops up it's treated the same as any other colour. If it can't run, or it isn't healthy, it doesn't breed. Well that makes sense, best idea is never to breed for just one particular trait then as it seems being selective on one issue can lead to problems. But as mentioned earlier that just leaves the door open for BYB who are not under any particular direction or control. Dee al I wish you all the best for that cute little bundle of cuddles. Dee_al Posted September 1, 2010 Author Share Posted September 1, 2010 little porker is already weighing in at 5 kilos at only 11 and a half weeks old and is starting to develop a fair sized head too. We had a few dramas the weekend after we bought him home, he ate somehing outside that disagreed with him and caused him to have severe belly pains took him to the vet and she gave him a pain killer and thankfully hes been fine ever since. I have 3 boys at home, 2 desexed and Envy who is 4.5months and not yet desexed and all things have gone 100% smoothly for me, all the boys love each other! Stanley(red staffy) wasnt a fan, didnt hurt him or anything, just growled and stayed away fdrom him. But they play together and sleep together now so all is fine. Todd(blue heeler) is about 14 now and has a fear of small animals due to having ferrets hanging off him lol. He hasnt met Kane yet, as Kane lives at my poarents house and Jax lives at bf's house.
