  1. Ahhh good ol sledogging Used to enjoy going 20 years ago [when I had my huskies].
  2. Isn't that the one made by Hills? ETA: never mind, that is ideal balance
  3. I use the tomcat brand rat traps, no touch no fuss type. Just flip them open and put peanut butter on them. They're only good though really for a few rats. But the snapping of them is quite tough so I'd keep away from inquisitive cat/dog noses and paws.
  4. Glad to hear the day was successful and the 8 year old wanted to pat him Good ol Bruno Bet he was happy to be back on the couch snuggling as well
  5. Totally understand Trinabean, nice as pie but sometimes just get too excited I usually just put Scout in my room with the TV on and he 'usually' just sleeps away the time. Has an occasional bark or whine as he's missing out. But sometimes he has to be out of the way - especially when a friend who has cancer pops around or work people. He survives the ordeal. One time I had to leave him outside for 3 days when my Nan came to stay when she wasn't well. Scout was not impressed, but he got over it [he did get to sleep in my room with me of a night]. Sometimes just can't take any chances, like with my Nan and her paper thin skin...one Scout claw could cause major damage. I know he doesn't want to eat anyone, but he's very strong of paw and tail and forgets himself when excited. I do remember when I had three huskies I blocked off one side of the house [forget the reason now], but that worked well as a temporary run. it was a narrow corridor of sorts with the neighbour fence on one side....a metal unopenable fence at one end and I think it was blocked off with some heavy gauge wire at the other end which acted as an openable gate. then there was the wall of the house with no doors on that side.
  6. Haven't had any horrible reactions, just one that sticks out was a woman who had a fear of dogs. I was at the shops with mine dressed up in Christmas gear. She came and sat next to me and the dog and smiled and just said "I have a fear of dogs, I don't want to pat yours, but I think he looks cute". She was sitting about half a meter away from him just smiling to herself. Scout ignored her [didn't go to her for his normal give me lots of pats].
  7. Making this one as I go as well, using other patterns as guides. I'm just writing it down as I go. Will post a pic once it's done
  8. Thanks for the birthday wishes for him, he had a good day even though it was raining on and off. His best mate the Kelpie next door came over and spent most the day with him. He got plenty of birthday biters [beef sticks]. He's pretty much tuckered out now and happily snoozing Was hoping to finish off his knitted jumper I'm making him for his birthday, but it'll take a little bit longer lol
  9. Today is Scout's 8th Birthday, seeing as I was still up and so was he, he got his present at midnight Made him a silly cardboard hat with an 8 on it and he got a ducky toy as a present [which he had to unwrap] Hard to believe he's 8 already, only seems like yesterday I picked him up as a pup! Waiting patiently to open present... YaY a Ducky!
  10. Goat headbutts hurt [especially with horned goats]. I've had many deep bruises on my legs from my Carl [who's about the same size and horn size as Gary] and that's just from him playing. So for a dog who's smaller rib bones could easily be broken from a playful headbutt [or even a fearful headbutt]. Had a mate who's ridgeback got a few broken ribs from a polled sheep that he went to close to in a paddock. I usually like the Gary the Goat stories, but this one was a bit silly
  11. Boss and Diamond. Diamond was found at home mutilated and Boss found a few days later just hanging on. Bianca is a friend of mine, it was devastating for anyone to endure Dang saw his pic on fb was hoping he'd be found and ok
  12. huggles, I know it's hard...but you gave the last gift of love you could for Bella.
  13. Rescue seems more to mean [as I see it] 'rescue' from a pound situation these days [ones that go to foster homes].
  14. Paid $1k for my pet too from a Reg. Breeder, he's not shown and is desexed etc. I'm assuming now when I want to get another it will be well over $1k. Well worth the money as mine has a brilliant temperament and health wise has been exceptional. But no would not pay that amount for an unknown crossbred dog. Can remember a time when crossbreds were almost giveaways as they couldn't sell them.
  15. Could you set up shadecloth or the like as a cheaper visual barrier, along with the electric fence?
  16. They'll probably take into consideration the data collected in the dog bite statistics NSW Dog Bite Statistics 2012 PDF
  17. Old Fazz the retired Kelpie my friend's Dad had was about 18 or 19 when he passed on.
  18. beautiful ad and have tearies, thank ye for posting
  19. Bambi does have a wheelchair but they just don't quite work as well for deer as they do for dogs. Her owner is conditioning her to like the wheelchair again (Bambi is clicker trained and has some interesting tricks) but it we don't want to upset her so it will be a while before we introduce it to her again. We are actually hoping that we won't need to hold all of her weight in a few weeks once her front legs are able to straighten out more normally which will allow us to continue with the harness rather than the wheelchair- it also means she is less likely to hurt herself if she decides to jump because we can continue to stabilise which we can't necessarily do with a wheelchair attached. It is really only that she is all bent up in the front and far too straight in the back that makes walking her so difficult at the moment!! Ahh okies, that makes sense
