Amber has been going from about 8.30pm until 8.00am without going to the loo! I put her out for a wee at about 10.30pm but usually she just sits at the door wanting to come back in.

Giving The Right Amount Of Information

You wouldn't care if someone at a dog park asked your dog to sit and then gave it a treat ~Woofen~? -
I've got one of these - http://www.clipperworld.com.au/shop/index....p;productId=123 but they have gone up in price a heap.

Giving The Right Amount Of Information
JulesP replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't think Corvus is talking about a instructor situation?? Rather when people ask for advice? I tend to avoid giving advice to non-dog people. Who knows what they would do with the advice and usually it is pointless as there is so much that would need to change to fix the situation. I usually suggest a dog school or trainer :D If someone tried to reward or train my dog I would go nuts btw. -
Reading that it takes you 2 hours to wash your border I am wondering how you are drying him? Do you have a force dryer? That might help as it helps to blow the dead coat out.
-
Ok no worries what do I know? I've only had border collies for 20 years.
-
The point is a showie would keep the dog out of the sun to prevent the bleaching. As you are not a showie I assume you don't want to go to that extreme.
-
People that think it is their real colour think it looks bootiful! So yes I would make a fortune. Just got to roll those pups in the dirt a bit....
-
Massive congrats LP :p

Thanks guys. We had 3 weeks of quite a lot of red discharge and then she went out. It was only her first season so I guess the second might be different.

My borders get 1 cup of dry in the morning and some sort of bone/meat at night. They are in 'good' condition. The agility people would say a bit on the porky side :p You can add some grated carrot or pumpkin to the kibble/stew so your boy doesn't feel he is being starved.

It the dog is doing to go reddish the only way is to keep him out of the sun. I've had 1 border that went reddish, the rest have just naturally had black coats. For the hair behind the ears it is best to just use your fingers to pluck the hair out. If your dog isn't a show dog then I would suggest just relaxing about it. I doubt anyone thinks you are a bad dog owner because your dog is a bit reddish.

I would be getting a guide dog pup used to being washed. Nothing worse then trying to wash an adult dog for the first time. Unless the Guide Dog people say no washing of course. I have a hydrabath. I still probably only wash mine once a month. Mine could be done more often, not because of smells but because they are...pink. I have red soil, so have black and pink border collies! I get soooo bored of the comments. A heap of people think it is their natural colour.

Great results guys! Well done!

I love training and find value, different ones, in all those size groups

Dunno really about the dogs. Mine don't tend to quit. So I don't think fitness is a factor. Not physical. Mental fitness is different. I wish mine were happier about making mistakes. Yes the handler needs to be fit.
-
Think it depends on the neutralization work. And the good things only come from the handler. In my mind if I have done that right then they shouldn't work for other people.
-
Does anyone have a bitch that has rich red discharge through her whole heat period? No changing to the straw colour discharge. If yes how did you work out the accurate time for mating? By the softening of the vulva?
-
Food will give you about 1 mins work with miss Poppy
-
Is this working for other people a breed thing perhaps?
-
I would let a gentle novice handler play with my dogs over a rough experienced handler. mmmm but even with a rough handler that say yanked them I don't think that would flow back to how they worked for me.
-
Yep it is interesting - how do officials know if somebody is or isn't tuning the horse?? Does it bother you that you dog wont work for anybody else, or maybe I should be asking it is something you would keep working at??? Do you others work only for you too??? Once again I am not inferring its a good or bad thing .........just getting some thoughts happening...... People dob pretty quickly if they see people doing the wrong thing. lol Poppy is a funny little dog. She wouldn't work for the US herding instructor we had out, the instructor was very surprised. It would only worry me if I wanted someone to take her in the ring. Brock would work for anyone. Don't think Amber would. My old boy would have but not my old girl. With instructors taking animals I think it is good if they want to have a feel as to what is going on. Sometimes you need to take the animal to really work out what is the best approach. Taking an animal off someone to show them up, isn't good or helpful.
-
Poppy doesn't work for other people. She might for a couple of seconds then it is 'where is my mum'. I have considered getting someone else to take her in the trial for me! In a lot of horse events you aren't allowed to get someone to 'tune' the horse up first which is what I assume the UK people are doing. It is considered cheating. So interesting.
