  1. I don't know. She worked for dried tuna tonight. I don't think it is a major problem as I don't really want any more then she is currently giving. It was just interesting that raw meat didn't make her super excited. Maybe because she has it for dinner? I am quite happy not to use it, lol. I nearly got an I-Squeak today but figured what is the point? Might try with the mesh tug doody I got from Clean Run. Mega Pet in Ringwood has I-Squeaks btw for I-Squeak nuts!
  2. Keep her crated with no stimulation before you work her. Should produce the same effect. Whether you think it is worth doing that is up to you. ;)
  3. Did you get it from Leerburg? I am thinking about ordering it. I watched his lecture on the Leerburg site yesterday.
  4. Did an experiment for you Ptolomy! Took Amber out with no food at all and ran through some exercises using just praise. There was no drop off at all in work. She did lick her lips a couple of times but that was the only indication that she would have liked a snack for doing the work. It was probably the best performance of the week! Obviously it might be a once off and if I continued to try with no food she might spit the dummy. Apart from sitting staring at me, which she does pretty much all day, her fav other thing is stalking things. Doesn't do toys. She gets excited in a calm way if that makes sense. Glad you had a good training night. I tried to turn 'trial run though night' into training and I don't think I was popular. How are his positions on the move? Does he drop totally down straight? Or is he moving forwards/sideways a bit then too? Do you have video of it?
  5. Quiet in here this week! Wednesday night after a not very good training session I was up at 3.00am googling dog training! Someone else please tell me they have done this Discovered Michael Ellis. Anyone else watched his stuff? Yesterday I thought I would up the treat value and used raw beef chunks This is :D because I am a vego!!! Amber thought it was ok but wasn't super impressed I thought she would be going back flips for it. She wasn't super impressed when she got the rest for dinner either. Will be trying cat kibble today so stealing the cats food seems to be the only time she gets super happy about food. Amber is supposed to be having a test on Sunday at school. I don't think she is ready and want to pull her out if it. Everyone thinks I am nuts! I just don't like doing things badly!!!
  6. Little Amber dog will be 1yo next month so I'll start her soon. She shows lots of instinct so should be interesting.
  7. You can give up herding for other dog activities I have to when I am an instructor
  8. Nope not going to this one. Sundays I go to dog club. Have fun!
  9. Ex-groomer here and yes I found the puglets to drop an amazing about of hair! JRT also seemed to drop a crap load for a little dog. I did test allergic to dogs (and a heap of other stuff). I get asthma, year round hayfever and skin stuff. Lucky I didn't breed :D It has never occurred to me not to have dogs though (or horses or cats). I was a bit grumpy about the Birmans as I was told they would shed less then a DSH and they shed heaps more.
  10. [quote name='stonebridge' date='11th Nov 2010 - 04:50 PM' post='4949030' I didnt get a reply to my post Moselle. I am going to sit in a corner now and sulk. Was so looking forward to hearing more about how you want disqualified colours included in the standards. To me you sound like lots of unethical breeders who want to change the standards to suit THEIR breeding, simply because they dont know how to evaluate their breeding in th first place. Sure everyones interpretation of the standards can differ to a point but to be honest I think you got lost somewhere on page 1. I can only speak for my breed as I haven't researched the others. But yes I believe that the allowed colours in border collies should be changed. It makes no sense to allow a blue merle but not a chocolate merle. A black tri but not a chocolate tri. Blue is allowed but not lilac. etc etc
  11. Looks just like a couple of mine did after contact with wandering jew. I used Zyrtec tablets and neocort cream. The problem with the cream was they went and rubbed their noses along the ground. I used Quit Itch on Brock to wash his nose and that really helped it.
  12. Do you know what is in the product? I've used stuff for horses but they sweat. Here is a heap of products available here - http://www.horsesuppliesdirect.com.au/category51_1.htm
  13. Unless you were the only dog in the class blustaff then I am not sure how anyone can give you crap about it. You have the results on the board.
  14. For the SBT breeders it's simple... don't breed blue and remove the accidents that crop up from the gene pool. Actually it is easier then that. Get your dogs colour tested and don't breed 2 staffies that both have a d gene. If you are so serious about never breeding blue then surely that is what an ethical breeder would do.
  15. Breed standards should however change to reflect our better understanding of colour gentics. And some of the standards are just plain dumb.
  16. To breed just for dilute is unethical. To breed with an affected dog just to get dilute would be unethical. To date it appears that the scientists haven't pinpointed what causes colour dilution alopecia therefore I don't see how anyone can breed to totally avoid it.
  17. It says on the website that you can drain straight to the outside. This is for using outside water to do an initial rinse off and to stop this water going into the tank.
  18. if u put two black dogs that carry chocolate, on average half the pups will be chocolate. sounds and acts like a recessive dilute to me? if you put a blue to a chocolate, neither carrying the other colour of the partner, what will you get? BLACK. again that sure looks like how recessive dilutes act? if the chocolate is added to golds it doesnt make the gold coat brown, it only dilutes black, so all they get is a chocolate nose. seen heaps of labradors with brown noses, again if it turnes black to brown, seems like dilute to me. blue does the same except the change is to blue. at least u dont get alopecia in chocolates... hurray Chocolate is a recessive but it is not a dilute. Dilute and recessive are different things. Chocolate can be diluted, to fawn/lilac. Chocolate and the dilute gene are on different locus. Chocolate is on the B locus and the dilute gene is on the D locus. This site explains it all pretty well - http://abnormality.purpleflowers.net/genetics/
  19. Has anyone used the baths at Scrub a dub dog in Ferntree Gully?? What did you think?
  20. Pet Products online look pretty good for price. They have 12 month packs. The yellow one is $140.
  21. It looks like you can drain water out from the bath as well as the wash tank. Maybe one of the hoses is draining the bath and one the tank?
