  1. Amber was sitting up on me returning from a down stay. Is that what you mean? I just did a bit of returning and walking past her, so she didn't know what I was doing. Anticipation in a smart pup can be a problem, lol.
  2. My 4yo border Brock is the most laid back dog you could meet. As long as he got lots of pats he would be happy living in a flat. He has pretty much failed at all dog sports. He is a really lovely pet though. I've always found mine need mental stimulation over physical exercise. So have a go at teaching you pup tricks as well as the basic sit etc. Make sure pup is part of the family too. They love their families.
  3. Kavik that is not at all how I interpreted the method. The dog is supposed to correct itself the handler isn't supposed to be yanking. This I thought explained it well - http://www.koehlerdogtraining.com/
  4. Yep that is why Collstar. You could look up Artemis. They have a no grain product. They have a website. Also Canidae.
  5. I don't have a problem at all with the actual product. Have used heaps of bags and have recommended it heaps but I do have a few problems with lack of straight answers about this product. i.e where has it come from.
  6. Am I correct about were it is being made hungryhound? You are a rep? It is the lack of transparency that I have a problem with and people not answering questions about this product. You aren't doing yourselves any favors. Not sure I would call the product 'exclusive' if it is being sold by different companies under different names.
  7. I train my own dogs to loose lead walk and heel whilst off lead. However when I get my pupils for training the pups are usually around 5 months and their owners have been walking around letting them pull everywhere. The best method for these dogs is a jolly good sharp about turn, which is really the Koehler method. We do it on flat collars though and do use treats/toy etc when pup is in a good spot.
  8. Great food Collstar. Unfortunately they are imported by the people that own Pets Paradise which means a lot of us will not use it.
  9. I haven't entered my dog yet as I am concerned about her behavior with other dogs in a stay line up. She is fine as long as they don't look at her, but any fidgeting on their part and she is very unhappy. She would really not appreciate it if I dog stood over her. Anyway it isn't fair to her or the other dogs at this stage. Very heartbreaking as her other work is lovely.
  10. I've had 5 border collies. They have all been quiet dogs. Energy when required but happy to snooze when not required. And that is what a 'typical' border collie should be. When my dogs are playing herding they aren't usually chasing btw. They are stalking, crouching, dropping and standing frozen on the spot.
  11. Not sure how this pissing contest is helping the OP. And well it has been done to death. Having the strong urge to use an ecollar and not on a dog!
  12. That is why I have the chicken mesh. I am eyeing off the Diamond Mesh http://www.diamondmesh.com.au/ but I bet it isn't cheap.
  13. I've had chicken wire for about 10+ years. If hasn't lasted as well as the fence that is dog mesh. Don't think I would use it again. I have the chicken mesh, 1 stand of wire and round pine poles on the top.
  14. Erny my pup Amber is pretty much refusing to eat kibble. She eats it one bit at a time and looks miserable the whole time. I've tried a heap of different kibbles, even Pal! She does eat the Phuds though (sort of like VAN). Have you tried VAN or anything like that? Oats?
  15. I have everything crossed for your pups too. I can't imagine what you are going through waiting to see if it has effected them.
  16. I did get some meat from the pet supply place after the butcher didn't have any. They are swearing there are no preservatives in the meat so I guess I have to trust them. They state it on their website too. They had a good selection of different mixes starting from $3.75 a kilo so not super cheap but ok. I personally prefer to get meat from the supermarket as that doesn't make me want to vomit so much (vego) but with 3 dogs the mince is pretty pricey.
  17. Unfortunately dogs often don't show us other symptoms when there is a problem. Have you done hydration tests? checked gums? felt stomach?
  18. How are you using the treat to refocus the pup Rileys mum?? I find a lot of people like to stand there and show the treat but no little actual giving of the treat. I like rapid giving of treats at times like this, until the pup is looking for the next treat, I would save his fav treat just for this exercise. I also really baby talk to the dogs during this stuff. I also see a lot of people standing in class chatting. I am always talking, patting or interacting with my dog in some way. This builds my value. I don't encourage my dogs to play with other dogs at school either. No onlead play at the start of class.
  19. I forgot that Kenzie was spooky with people. I am having a similar issue with Amber. Luckily she doesn't loose focus on me in heeling but stand for exam is going to be interesting. Not having much luck with tugging with her though.
  20. How is the drive training going Ness? I had a much better training session at club last night. I was also in a better frame of mind. I can't believe how much I influence how the dogs work.
  21. I am a vego so only buy pet meat. I do feel a little guilty about it as I feel like I am getting a freebie.
