The SIL needs to be a member of VicDogs for them to do anything. Did she join and transfer the Goldie. You might also like to point out that if the council do decide that the bitch is a PB and seize her that the pups are likely to be killed. That might give her a good fright.

It took me ages the other day to find that form

Dog Breaking From Sit Into A Drop
JulesP replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Errr I have to disagree Dark Angel. My dog had not broken one stay ever until a big GSD scared her. It is very obvious from her body language that she is scared. -

Dog Breaking From Sit Into A Drop
JulesP replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think it is more effective to be able to stop the drop before it happens. So reducing the distance and being able to verbally reinforce the stay. I also never drop my dog from a sit stay. So for the drop I move the dog off the line and then back into position. This is my main issue at the moment. Poppy drops because she is nervous. It has taken a year to get back to a 1 min sit stay at comp distance after she got a fright. -
There are all different levels on how you can treat your sports dog. You could keep it in a run and only let it out for work. No playing with other dogs etc. It is up to each person to decide what they want to do. I am careful not to devalue commands in every day life. E.G. I don't call the dogs for a bath, they are not going to come as they hate baths and this could devalue the come command. I don't tell them to sit and then go off and leave them without releasing them, that could devalue the stay. The biggest change is time. It takes time to go to training and comps. I don't know about the dog's lifestyle changing but mine did!

That is very nice of Saxon to be a sheepie! :D Very nice indeed!

I've had 5 border collies and they have all been snobby little gits! But I have always had more than 1 at a time so they have had their own friends. Even at puppy preschool they have been more interested in the people then the other pups. If I have Brock and Poppy offlead at the end of agility they just run around getting pats, whilst the other dogs have fun playing. They do have a super time playing with each other though! I haven't found this to effect them wanting to be with me either. The minute I go outside they then focus on me.

Obedience Instructors Going Too Far!
JulesP replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Actually there are usually 3 sides to a story. Each persons story and then the truth. lol. tazmadman I think some of us would be interested to hear your or the instructors side. -
Yeah I can take calcium as a sleeping tablet. That is interesting AD. As you know I have a super quiet Border too. Both CK and Brock have the same slightly worried look about them too. I hadn't considered it a deficiency issue. It might be the magnesium that has caused the behavior change as it is great for nerves.
-
How has his behavior changed AD?? Calcium makes me very sleepy, lol.

How often do you do run throughs/practices in a trial ring? Weekly? Every couple of weeks? Never? I have been doing them weekly but I have a sneaky suspicion that it is making every thing worse! I suffer badly with ring nerves and Poppy is very sensitive. Yes I get nervous even doing a practice run though! At this rate I don't reckon I am ever going to get to a trial! Maybe I need to adjust how I am training.

I came in see why this had got to be 18 pages. Got to about page 7 and well it just seems to be going around in circles. So I can see why people are not reading it all. RL I can't say I would be paying if an animal came on to my place and got injured. If one of my dogs got hurt in a similar way I would appreciate the neighbor asking if the dog was ok etc. Maybe a bottle of wine? I would be going around and checking for puppy sized gaps though and fixing them myself. I wouldn't want to be upset if something even worse happened.

The cheapest playpen is a Bunnings wire compost bin at around $26. Deals Direct has a heap of stuff and they are pretty cheap. There are also quite a few businesses that advertise on here.

Good one . It is a bit addictive! -
I've always got my pups from registered breeders that do testing etc so DOL has not influenced me. But it is nice to hang out with people that think the same.

The first time I went there were people there from my obedience club, which is a couple of hours away -
lappimum herding is at Nyora. If that isn't too far I can give you the details. I have obedience on Sundays so can never get to the DOL Kepala meets. I used to go to the Liverpool Road place all the time when I lived in the Basin. The Warby trail is quite pleasant. It is on lead but not everyone obeys that.

I had 5 oodles in my last class. They were all fairly nutso too. Don't think there was one in Amber's class though.

Do try and get to a clinic dyzney. They are a great bunch of people and it is really fascinating watching all the different breeds of dogs and how they naturally herd. -
