  1. Paul is your agility more a fun social agility rather than competition agility?
  2. Lol Amber went to the river on Friday and spent the whole time herding up her friend. She wouldn't pick up the ball and was focused on the other dog rather than the ball.
  3. Poppy wraps around my leg. She doesn't actually touch me but she isn't straight in her body. Her shoulders might be slightly in front of my leg though. Little Amber is already moving in this bent fashion as she wants to see my face. I don't like it when the gait is effected. Not a fan of the high front legs unless that it the way the dog naturally moves. Might have to get her a bit further back and off me I guess.
  4. My question of the day is when does close, prancy heeling become crowding??? Has anyone been pinged for crowding?
  5. I really liked that she kept emphasizing training the dog as an individual. The section about speed was interesting too. My Brock is very slow. I ran like the clappers at agility this week and he doesn't keep up with me at all. Still just trots along. Hadn't really thought about getting him running fast on the flat. Most of my shadow handling has been done at a trot. I asked for alternative training methods yonks ago and I think I was looking for something like this.
  6. What is this K9??? I thought it sounded like you were down there lots. lol. I have normal club on Sundays, agility on Monday night and obedience/trial training on Wednesday nights. Herding is once a month on Saturday. The food bit sounds nice
  7. Do you WA folks get together every night to train?
  8. I really research the parents, grandparents etc. Find out what sort of dogs they are. Then if I am happy with all that I am not too fussed which actual puppy I get. I did go and look at Poppy's litter armed with a test sheet. However Poppy left the other pups and bolted meters to get to me. She chucked herself at my feet and would not leave me the whole time I was there. I did a bit of a test but she had me.
  9. Sorry to talk about boring stuff but Amber (4 months) is cracking me up with her recalls. She comes in so fast that she does a skid and a couple of rolls to stop. Haven't seen anything like it, she thinks it is the best game. Here she is flying in:
  10. I know what you mean about needing a break. I'm up to 3 years and really need some time off to recharge. Our club has a pretty full on training program for new instructors. Could you put together a training program? Think getting instructors/helpers is a problem at all clubs not just small ones. You just need to tell people (sometimes quite sternly) that it is a requirement of training that they help with the equipment.
  11. No never forgotten totally. They are very polite about it though. If it is getting lateish then they just run and sit by their bowls every time I go outside. The pony really kicks up a stink!
  12. My old border looses her back legs and falls over. Some sort of spine/nerve problem. From your description of the dog I would say she is closer to 15yo. My girl is 15yo. Good on you for looking after Lucy.
  13. I like the way this forum is moderated. In fact I think it is probably the best moderated out of all the forums I visit. Not too much interference but action taken when needed. So :p for Troy.
  14. Let me see. I also work full time. Have horses as well. Work as an instructor and have a 4 acres property that I look after by myself. And then there are the cats. Nothing to do with priorities. The truth and what I should have said is that I believe in training on a scale. My horse background I guess.
  15. lol Ptolomy I also do herding and agility and have 2 dogs and a pup in training. Which makes for limited time. I don't mind chugging along at each level. Poppy is sweet. She is on her best behaviour at training at the moment because she is getting special one on one time with Mummy.
  16. Maybe try the Champion Tails stain remover. Haven't heard anyone having problems with that. You can get it in horse shops.
  17. Had an interesting night at training yesterday. I don't tend to train too far in-front of the level that I am up to but tried out a couple of things last night. Tried drop on recall, down Poppy went perfectly and a dumb bell over a solid jump. She did the retrieve beautifully too. I had not done any actual training on these exercises but she knows distance drop and has done some agility. It is great how they can put it all together. And OMG the distraction levels at mid week training is massive! The soccer club also have training so there are heaps of people running around kicking balls, sometimes right through our area!
  18. I just discovered this breed last week, via facebook too! I asked some Aussie Shep people on the weekend and they hadn't heard of the breed.
  19. I use it once a week. The dogs love it. The cats rather like it too. Makes a nice meaty change for the dogs after a week of bones. Not cheap but easy to use. The Ecopet loaf is very firm for people that don't like squishy loaves.
  20. Resurrecting our herding thread! I went to my first clinic this year on the weekend. Poppy was a good girl. I feel like we are lacking commands though and that we are still doing everything on instinct. This has got me a bit spooked about doing a started test. I did 3 goes at a started course and we got round each time but I felt like it was a fluke! Poppy is quite keen at driving so I was thinking about doing started by driving rather than fetching. Is this a silly idea? All the coordination of getting the dog, sheep in position at the mouth of the obstacles gives me a headache!! Just got a pic of Poppy in action.
  21. Mmmm interstate trip....... We did have a herding thread ijdavis 2.0. I'll see if I can find it.
