Think I would rather feed wheat then something that had been nuked! Natures Gift is in Supermarkets.
-
Time to buy Australian I think! Nature's Gift also have a kibble. I've used their tin food on and off for over 18 years and never had a problem with it. Their website says that they are going to do cat food too. I've also been using Great Barko, bag nearly finished. The dogs love it. I have seen no change in coat condition. No farting etc! I feed raw as well as kibble.

Why would some be nuked but not others???

Traning An Obedience Dog To Do Agility
JulesP replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Brock is funny - I can do distance stuff if I am moving parallel to him! So can weave from a couple of metres away and he did the distance challenge quite well at school. He hates me sending him away from me though!! -
Traning An Obedience Dog To Do Agility

Both my current borders are super clingy, stare up at me dogs. Good for obedience. Not so good for agility!!!!! -
Barkly may not be the only dog that recalls!
-
Up the rewards for a while Luke. Something disgusting like a chicken neck! (I am a vego  ) Also try playing games with the recall - recall, don't worry about the sit, massive pats and send him off again, repeat! I also run away if doggie is too slow! (I did fall over once in front of about 20 people ) If it makes you feel better Poppy's recall turned into a drop last week! Took a while for me to work out what was going on. I had got told off for having too long a verbal command, so had shortened it and had slightly changed my visual command but it was enough for her to get muddled up! Arrrrrrrrrrrr But this is why I love dog training

Praise can be a reward! I would be using a target plate if you are wanting to do the 2 on 2 off nose touch stuff. -
I think that you will find that the other store is owned by PP. PP have distribution rights in Australia. The fact that PP sell it seems to be the only cause of angst for people.

Do you have all the bits of the tug Midol?? A puppy in my class was just quite ill because he ate something similar.

Goodness, I remember the original thread but didn't realise how big the burn was. I hope doggie gets better now.

Training The See-saw For Agility
JulesP replied to Kavik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We did lots of training on the seesaw. First we just had the seesaw flat on the ground and got the contacts happening. Then we had the ss just up to a tiny height so the dog could feel the movement. At the same time we had the ss up at full height with tables to stop the movement but the dogs got used to the height. Each week the ss on the ground got taller and the tables got lower to create more tip. We also did things like banging the ss with the dogs sitting near it and bouncing the dogs on the end of the ss (put dog on ss and handler lifts ss up and down). -
Interesting Question For Any Trainer!
JulesP replied to lovemesideways's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't know how your course is teaching it but if my dog (or horse) works really well then I do stop the training But it is not the same as sin binning. Sin Binning would be a no talking, march to the room with a chuck inside and a door slam! Finishing training because the dog was good would involve a very happy run to the jack pot box and lots and lots of treats and much excitment and pats from me. As I train before dinner & breaky it would also mean that the dog gets fed. So happy dog that wants to train. I guess it works as mine are at the gate going nuts at training time. -
Any One Use Mars Coat King On Border Collie?
JulesP replied to OZ Grooming World's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No don't use it on a show dog. You don't want to cut the coat and you don't want to pull the under coat out. -
My Dog Hates Cats, Need Some Tips
JulesP replied to Coopz's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I will lend you my panther cat. Doggie will run away next time he sees a kitty -

Good luck with the training!

I think I would be working on taking the food nicely as a separate thing to your heeling. I don't know how sensitive your pup is but mine would probably connect any sort of training with the food with the heeling, and I want the heeling to be clearly rewarded. I sometimes have the food on me. Sometimes it is on the bin. Depending on what I am doing. Food is on me if I want quick. instant treating. If it is on the bin, I might heel 6 paces, verbally mark, release and run to the bin with great excitement and then treat Poppy. This sort of treating does build good enthusiasm in the dog.

I Need Help With Trialling A Very Stubborn Breed!
JulesP replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It is a pet hate of mine PF, since I went to an obedience trial and people started hissing at the bc! -
I Need Help With Trialling A Very Stubborn Breed!
JulesP replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Just about anyone can train a GR or BC??? Ummm not from what I see at my dog club! I would stay with the club (good for proofing etc) but I would also find a private trainer. I use private trainers with my bc btw! I am currently being given a bit of grief because my bc boy is super quiet. I doubt a word would be said if he was a different breed but the expectations are higher. Like your doggie he is a pet first. He might never be a super star in agility but I don't really care! We have fun. -
When Do You Decide To Enter A Trial?
JulesP replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks everyone! The trial is in December and I would like at least an extra month training so I will not enter. Funnily Kelpiechick I feel more inclined to enter Brock in an agility trial! Agility is my 'fun' thing so I am less bothered about that. Not that obedience isn't fun, but it is a different sort of fun! -
Body Energy Vs. + - Reinforcement/punishment
JulesP replied to FreeSpirit's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I do use body energy in both horse and dog training but this does sound a bit wacky. If you are not happy with the trainer - don't use her! It is important to find a style/system that you believe in. -
Can't play this one. Poppy isn't a toy fiend! She does touch though so could I do a touch instead of a retrieve?? I usually use both a verbal and visual for that.

I think that the main thing to watch with Giant breeds is not to over feed. I don't think the super high protein puppy food is good for them. You are after slower growth. So just check out the protein levels. Don't have a giant breed so could be wrong but I did a quick google to check!
