Topic Change - Now E-collar Question
JulesP replied to MolassesLass's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Could just be a high drive dog. Last week Poppy chewed up a cane basket (cane must be fun to chew up) and ripped up about 5 mags and threw them all around the garden. As well as holes dug and a bit of bed chewing. Now she has 2 friends, an acre of garden, has a free run in the mornings and fairly intense training daily. She is just a busy little beaver! Sounds like this doggie needs to get into agility or something to harness some of that energy. -
I think they do accupunture at Montrose. Bowen is really good too if you can find someone to do that. I had my horse Bowen person do some on a dog once and it was pretty impressive.

I 'think' that the vet at Montrose does muscle type therapies.

I have booked in to do my last test at dog school a couple of weeks early. These tests scare the crap out of me, worse than competing and I am very nervous about that!!! I was just congratulating myself yesterday that I feel ok about it when I had this weird dream last night! I will be with my new class for 1 week prior to the test and that was what the dream was about! I dreamt that first off I couldn't find the class! So they were half way through and I had missed the socialisation bit that I needed. Then they were doing this really weird heeling which sort of resembled doggy dancing (I don't like doggy dancing!) and sort of walking sideways in a spiral thing. And then it got WORSE! I looked down and my lovely, well trained border collie had turned into my friend's very naughty, feral.....OODLE! Obviously I am not as ok about all this as I thought! Heaven help me when this dog is ready to trial! Both dogs are just about ready to compete

I am a tad confused with this measuring! It seems a bt weird that you have to get them measured no more than 2 months before your comp when it is a life time measure. Am I misreading here??

Semi-hypothetical Muzzle Question!
JulesP replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
She can do her dog meeting on lead were you can control it and then do zoomies with her mates! Interestingly I find my dogs aren't that keen on playing with 'strange' dogs as they have each other! Snobby beasts! When doing off lead stuff they spend the entire time running up to the other people and show no interest in the other dogs. Some times you have to think whether it is some thing that YOU want rather than what the dog wants! -
Semi-hypothetical Muzzle Question!

Why can't you just let her off lead with your other dogs if you know a off lead place that you can control?? -
Off Lead Recall, Not Staying...
JulesP replied to grotty_rotty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
This is for a recall not a stay. This is how we teach the recall to puppies under about 5 months. We aren't looking for a wait at this stage but aiming to build a really quick recall. I assume that they are going to teach you how to put the wait in grotty_rotty. -
Someone is selling it as a fancy horse mane puller. Charging $45 for it. I did try my coat king on my pony's mane and it does work quite well. But a plain ole mat breaker isn't usually an expensive device.

Hi can someone pls identify this device for me and give me a rough idea of cost. Ta

JulesP replied to dogdude's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good luck! -
I have black & orange border collies!! (not a special colour, I have red dirt!!) and am an instructor. I'll look out for you!
-
Hey Luke are you going to Croydon dog club???? Me & Leopuppy go there too!
-
I'm on red dirt and just tried the Plush Puppy whitening shampoo, reckon it has been the best thing. A week after the bath and someone asked me if I had just washed the dogs as they were black & white, instead of black & orange!!!

An Observation And A Question
JulesP replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Umm ok. Scary. I would use an e-collar for certain things - e.g. an animal that is chasing stock. Obviously I wouldn't use a head collar for something like that. If I have a pupil that can't get good loose lead walking on a flat collar and they are in danger of being dragged over then I would suggest a head collar. I would not trust such a person with anything else. These are usually just pet people btw. -
The only sat I can't do is the 15th Nov. This will be about the 4th day we have done Ptolomy (now are you really jealous!!). We tend to ask what everyone wants to work on. We do run throughs, so someone calls for someone else. People usually want to do a group stay. Someone might have a particular problem, like retrieving so we offer ideas for that. And lots of general chatting and just having our dogs in a different place!

What To Do Next? Where To Go From Here?
JulesP replied to Gayle.'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think your instructor probably freaked out because you aren't in the highest class yet. Clubs tend to freak if you don't go through their whole program. Doesn't mean to say that you aren't ready, just providing some insight on why the instructor might have freaked. -
Plush Puppy Herbal Whitening Shampoo
JulesP replied to doggywoof's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just tried this shampoo this week and love it! I have border collies and it made the black bits really shiny. I also have red dirt and it did a great job of getting that out. I actually like it much better than the Glo White shampoo, or any of the other horse shampoos. Probably the best shampoo I have tried at getting the red dirt out. A big -
My stick in the ground ones have a metal base. They cost me $50 for the metal bits and then I just got poles from Bunnings. Can take a pic when I get home if you like. Am in Melbourne though and they would cost a bit of post I imagine.

I do finally have a ball obsessed pet. Do retrieves for a couple of hours every night.....unfortunately it is my Birman kitten! Brock's sister is also not very fussed about toys and would rather have a belly rub. Luckily both dogs are focussed and will work regardless of outside influences. They both have the good border collie work ethic! I agree with Vicki when she said speed would come from confidence. With Brock I am just trying not to worry him and make the whole agility thing fun. I am hoping the speed will come.
