I have a 4 month old golden x poodle in my class. I don't think it has had any socialisation at all. The owner says it is good at home but at school it is totally insane. It is so nuts that the owner can't do any of the exercises with it. I've told him to get the dog out lots. Apart from that what techniques would you use to settle it down enough for it to be able to learn? At the moment nothing is going to get in. We are a positive club and I can't handle the dog myself.

Just going to answer the original question. I thought about this in relation to my dogs and how they interact with each other. The lower 2 dogs would not dream for physically moving the older girl who is the boss. They would with each other. If they do bump into her by accident they get told off. Maybe not dominance but a lack of respect possibly. If your dog growled or something if you didn't comply then I think it would be going into dominance. Lots of lack of respect issues do then also lead to dominance issues. I've found that if you let these little things slide that you then get problems.

Pack structure with you, not with the other dogs.

Western Port Obedience Club (& Hastings)
JulesP replied to BelgianPup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tricky situation. As a fellow volunteer I do feel your pain Denis. It is hard to give up your time and then get slagged off. Not sure how big Western Port is but I am sure you could turn up to Croydon on some Sunday mornings and see bedlam! It is a big club and obviously alot of the doggies are not trained yet. Probably better to give feedback to the club through rather than writing it on an internet forum. Or send a PM. -
I had to retire my girl because of this. She limped due to scar tissue. I was also concerned about her jumping as we were up to CDX.

I had better results with the Purina in the supermarket. Prefer the Purina Proplan but have got the supermarket one on occasions.

Chicko - you get the attachment from Bunnings. Costs about $7! You unscrew the airator thing on the tape and screw this on. Then a garden hose just clicks on.

I have the K9 Royale as well. It is easy to put up. No complaints. And the lady is really good to deal with.

NG smackos go down pretty quickly.

I think variety of treats is pretty important. I tend to have something different each time I train. Skinless frankfurts are good. Mine love the Nature's Gift smackos too. And cat kibble if I run out of other treats is very popular!!

Teaching Hand Touch When Stay Signal Is The Same
JulesP replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My hand touch signal is a closed fist and the dog touches the back of my hand. Stay signal is the palm in front of the dog's nose. So 2 different signals. -
Thanks Leopuppy!!

My Friend Can't Stand Fresh Meat
JulesP replied to evamaria's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you put the bones in bags then you can just sort of drop them on the ground, no handling required! -
I'll just have to stalk you at a comp then

Cool! do you have a video of the pairs one?? I haven't seen that done yet.

Wow what a good show Leopuppy! Congratulations

Is There Any Hope For Jake.. Seperation Anxiety
JulesP replied to Michelleva's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You might want to let your neighbours know what is going on so they don't get grumpy thinking that it is an ongoing thing and that you are just letting the dog bark. -
I do think it depends on your dog! I was hanging to try EP but found that my dogs do better on Proplan. So I mainly use Proplan and use EP as a change every now and then. I only use the Holistic EP range though. Petstock Mitcham should stock EP.

Yeah for Kinta! Good job on your pass. My little brag is Poppy does a retrieve!!! For people that don't know her older brother totally refuses to retrieve, which has caused me some tears! But retrieving is Poppy's fav game! Quite funny as she doesn't want to tug, just retrieve!

I have a booster bath, which is like a baby bath! Then I got an attachment for the kitchen sink from Bunnings ($7) that lets you attach the garden hose, so you get hot water outside. Just a cheaper way of doing it. Hydrobaths are great, I just couldn't afford one right now. You are also bending over quite a bit. The booster bath is a bit higher. There is a booster bath in the sale section in off topic in NSW!

Not just breeders Erny anyone that competes in affiliated dog sports too.

Erny not sure if the rule has changed but the latest copy of Dogs Victoria says that members are prohibited from using e-collars too.
