  1. I am quite big on working with what you have got. So if you know your dog reduces in time at trials but is clean then you could work on how to get around the round quicker. How you can help the dog. If the dog is slowing down because of things going on around it then I would be working on pack drive and becoming the centre of the universe for that dog. This is probably the main training tool I work on. Currently backfiring as am having trouble with rear crosses, lol. Also look at what you are doing in the ring. Are you nervous? Amazing how a sensitive dog can pick up on owner stress. Brock dropped off in performance at every single one of his module tests because I got worried!!! Didn't realise I was going it. With obedience I also worked to a much higher level so the drop off at a trial didn't effect the performance too much.
  2. Cool! Thanks for that info. I like some of the rules! Like the weavers one!!
  3. Hey Reddii, Just read your brag and wanted to ask about the agility you do. Do you do a different type from ANKC? I haven't heard of starters, elementary etc. How does it work?? What are the cards?
  4. I got bitten quite badly by a GSD. The owner told me afterwards that no one could do anything with it and that it gave the vet heaps of grief. Dog had been lovely and friendly when I arrived too. It actually bit me before I got it in the van to wash. I was slightly peeved that she hadn't told me earlier!!
  5. I gave up with one of my border collies. It was just causing us both distress!!! Not worth it.
  6. Actually sounds like asthma. I do get asthma from allergies. You can buy ventalin over the the counter now. if I go near something that effects my breathing the first sign is usually my throat feels like it has something stuck in it.
  7. Ummm you will measure BIGGGGGGGG. You might need a horse one Most horse shops sell them.
  8. My dogs do better on Proplan than on Eagle Pack so really people should make their own minds up after trying a product.
  9. I saw a proplan rep yesterday and asked a couple of questions about this food that I thought I would pass on. The animal fat is from what ever animal is used in the food. So for the Turkey one it is turkey fat. The fish one it is fish oil etc. With the corn, test have been done and shown that there are only certain bits of the corn that cause allergy issues. Those bits are removed and the corn gluten is left. The corn gluten shouldn't cause problems.
  10. Get on the super-dooper East link and come to Croydon!!!
  11. When I went to Steve's drive seminar he was creating drive in dogs with food and pats as well as tugging, so you don't actually need to get the dog to be tugging to get drive. You can use the squeaky toy to get the drive.
  12. Regular training is all on at 9.30am on Sunday due to father's day. The 11.00am classes have all moved to 9.30am.
  13. Why don't you try tracking with your dog?? Give all that sniffing an outlet!
  14. Who is coming to the Croydon agility trial this weekend???
  15. Brock and I passed our weaving module tonight! I am pretty pleased as when we started weaving he was flopping on the ground and sooking big time. I had moments when I thought he just wasn't going to play! So very happy.
  16. I have a booster bath as well. I have an attachment for the laundry tape for a hose. I would like a hot tap outside though, it drove me nuts on the weekend trying to get the water the right temp. Have a dryer as well.
  17. Croydon Obedience dog club does agility.
  18. I was mobile but still had the odd 'no show'. If they did it once I let it slide, it they did it again then I just didn't do their dogs again.
  19. Well done Tess! I did a round the back heel from the heel position and Poppy went straight around. She even did it whilst I was walking. She has only been doing that sort of finish for a week too.
  20. Relaxed but looking, lol. How is that? Have borders remember, rare for them not to be watching Mummy!
  21. I like them nice and relaxed. Nothing worse then standing in a trial and your dog looks like it is going to move the whole time. Poor Poppy had some very good proofing this week. The damn cat was being a total pain! At one stage her eyes were bogging out and I turned around and naughty kitty was about to eat her treats!! I only taught the flip finish because we have to do it as part of our assessment at dog club.
  22. An interesting exercise Kavik. Without a hand signal Poppy would just shuffle closer. I'll see what she does if I add a hand signal. I am glad you said that about the flip finish Ptolomy as I can't get a return I am happy with using it. I get a much nicer sit if I send her behind me. I just changed my drop signal for the distance work today and had better success. I was using a signal out to the side but changed to a more forward signal, so sort of punching down and front. Poppy immediately stopped creeping.
