  1. The guard dogs around here never leave their yards. The one that attacked Brock was kept in a small run.
  2. Sounds like they were guard dogs? "Mr Taylor says the dogs have never hurt anyone before. "No, never, because they've never been outside of the yard, they were always locked in the yard beside the workshop here. " A number of farmers around here keep guard dogs and they are super scary. A couple got out once and came up my driveway. I have no doubt that they would have attacked me if I had been on the other side of the gate. The way one of them looked at me and growled was not pleasant. Another did get out and attacked my dog as I was walking past. Very scary incident. And I used an umbrella to fend off a guard mareema whilst I put him back in a garden! These dogs are all well contained and in the 12 years I have lived here have only seen guard dogs out 3 times. But each of those times could have resulted in a tragedy.
  3. The doggie has an allergy? And you are reacting to her? My immediate thought is that yeast is the culprit. Doggy has a yeast overload which is causing her allergies and you are also allergic to yeast which is why you haven't reacted to a dog before. Just an idea :)
  4. Hugs Teebs. There is always a period of adjustment when the pack changes. It sounds like you are doing well. I admit to unashamedly spoiling mine when I lose a pet. Still spoiling them actually but they are nice little dogs and aren't taking advantage.
  5. Just a reminder about what this topic is actually about....
  6. You are doing just fine with your little dog Luke. He is a pleasure to watch working. Are you actually working as a trainer for K9Pro now Huski?
  7. Has anyone read anything sensible about why this dog did what it did?
  8. Fingers crossed the dogs are ok. Big hugs for you.
  9. My border collies are pretty lazy. They eat breakfast at about 7.00am and then play wrestle for a while, sleep until lunch time, eat and sleep again until dinner. Sleep after dinner and for the rest of the night!! If I am out and doing stuff they would keep going 24/7 though. They have a good 'off' switch! If one of the cats is outside Amber will follow them around and be 'busy'. They are both very alert though even when they appear to be sleeping and are off running if they hear something that needs investigating.
  10. Just the odd "oops" litter, it seems ... The parents live on a farm so it is ok.
  11. Handwritten cardboard sign attached to a light pole saying 'staffie pups 4 sale'? That's "English Staffie" please. Blue English staffie....
  12. How do you know???? It is part of DOL membership that one is NOT to even go inside a PP. One is allowed to yell abuse from outside of course.
  13. No. Don't think the sale of any animal in a pet shop is a good thing. I was just pointing out the rules :) (which I didn't make and which I don't agree with) But I would still rather all the PP staff got to keep their jobs and just sold pet food etc.
  14. I think you can if the petshop is a member of PIAA??? There aren't many that are. Only in some states. It's a blanket ban on pet shop sales here. :) If you are in the ACT that is not the case. Here is the clause from the ACT code of ethics: e) Incompliance to section 9 - A Member shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers or retail pet dealers, who are not accredited by the Pet Industry Association of Australia Limited (PIAA). Here is the Code of Ethics on Our website I don't see any reference to PIAA there and if it IS there somewhere, prepare for a campaign of terror by yours truly to have it removed. :D I copied and pasted straight from your code of ethics! What you have linked to is the short version. Go to Rules & Regulations and open the Code of Ethics PDF.

  17. No product can be holistic if one applies the correct definition of the term.
  18. This will probably not be popular but I can't be happy about a company going into receivership. I would have much preferred that they were not allowed to sell animals but continued to operate. All these companies going into receivership is not good for Australia. I would be happy about puppy farms going into receivership though!!! They can all go, thanks very much!
  19. Holistic actually means treating the body as a whole rather than just treating physical symptoms. So looking at vitamin levels, mental well being, the environment the person/dog is in, diet, any muscle/skeletal issues. Rather than just prescribing an antibiotic. I don't think a food can technically be holistic as it is only dealing with diet. What they are meaning in the case of food is that they have added ingredients that might be good for joints, eye health etc rather than just food as fuel.
  20. I looked at Nature's gift this afternoon as well. Doesn't have much in it and fat content is down but does have wheat????? So not sure about it. I spoke to them about it years ago. It has a little bit of wheat in it to bind the kibble.. Unless you know the dog has a problem with wheat I would give it a go. The kibble I am feeding the cat has heaps of stuff in it that I thought would be a problem.
  21. People with gluten problems are told to avoid oats so might cause problems. Have you tried natures gift kibble in chicken? That doesn't have much stuff in it.
  22. Feel your pain, I am having similar problems with a cat. This is a bit out of left field but try super coat lite if this food doesn't work. Someone on another forum has found this has worked for her IBD cat.. I am also finding a fairly crappy food is working for my cat. If I try and give him the good food I get liquid poo. We tend to go better food with tummy problems but maybe not so good stuff might go down better? I have a tummy problem and did have a doctor tell me to eat maccers etc because it would be easier for my tummy to digest.
  23. You are really pushing this brace thing. Starting to think that it is actually your company and the purpose of this thread is to promote the brace.
