  1. Thank you Mercedes - it has been about five years since my last litter here and I am trying not to get too excited.
  2. Rajacadoo - Congratulations How exciting for you. I am feeling a little bit apprehensive as well as it has been a while since I have had a litter here at home. Have helped a few friends whelp their babies but it is a little bit different when it is your own. My girl showed five on her ultrasound and the vet has advised that she may go early. As to weight - wouldn't have any idea as to how much she has put on. Feels quite a bit though when I pick her up for a cuddle Am sure in the next few weeks, the belly will balloon. I too will be doing a bit of shopping at Sway's Any excuse to buy new doggy things
  3. So sorry to hear of Phoebe's passing and sympathy to you and your parents. Unfortunately accidents happen - we have all wished at some stage that we could turn back time and undo what has happened. I am sure they don't blame you and thankfully you and your husband were there to take her to the vet.
  4. Thanks Hesa - first litter I have had for a while so hoping that all goes well Bit worried as ultrasound showed them the same colour as yours ;)
  5. Well I can add my name to the list now Weownah - due 16th June
  6. Oh what great news to hear - thanks Toohey for letting us know. Must say this is the nicest waiting room I have ever seen :p Hope everyone doesn't mind a bit of sheltie hair on their clothes - it brushes off, honest
  7. I was lucky to get a four drawer filing cabinet from work and put it in my laundry to hold all the dog stuff ie towels, towels, more towels, leads, grooming items, bowls, bags etc
  8. Perhaps you could write up a list of questions for them to ask the breeders? I would prefer to talk to the people themselves as well - I would be wondering if since they can't take the time to contact me personally, are they going to have time for a puppy? Lovely that you want to help them. Perhaps you could arrange to visit a show with them and see some of the breed they are interested in there.
  9. Is anyone from Sydney going who could take a compact gazebo (boxed) up to someone? If so, could they please PM me?
  10. Glad to hear that a kitty was found safe & sound. Thinking of you Jed and hope that you continue to slowly improve and get better .
  11. Oh, they are gorgeous Kaffy Magee. Love their beautifully coloured ribbons. Mum looks very happy. Hope your other girl has no problems with her litter too.
  12. I hope Ralphie is resting up and getting ready for all those autographs he will have to do once it is published Am sure they won't be able to decide which of Ralph's photos to go on the cover as they are all awsome.
  13. It may well be thyroid. Do Shiba's suffer from thyroid? Just asking as I am not familiar with the breed. You could also email Dr Jean Dodds with his symptoms - have heard that she is very good at answering emails. Sorry I haven't got a contact email addy but just do a google search and she will come up. Could you get crates and both boys sleep inside in a crate each? As he is getting older, he may be feeling the cold more.
  14. Thanks so much for the update Toohey. Hopefully Jane will continue to progress in her recovery. Do hope Magnus comes home too safe & sound. To all those in the "front line", take time to rest and recover too. DOL is such a great "family".
  15. Perhaps Troy could have a special "pinned" topic for Jed at one central place (apart from the auctions being held) ? Bank details for donations could be at the beginning. With all the love from DOLers being sent to Jed, I do hope that in the next few days, we have some good news. Even though most of us have never met Jed, her words of wisdom always shine through and her stories about the dogs always put a smile on my face.
  16. Oh how devastating. Have noted bank details and will send donation. I do hope that she will recover OK. Can you please keep us up to date?
  17. Is it just me or does the "blue" have a different shape ear?? Seems longer and more rounder at the tip. Oh dear, let's hope that weis are not going to be the next "breed" to have those elusive expensive "blues".
  18. My last two cars have been bought solely with the dogs in mind I loved my Honda Odyssey but it was getting too long in the tooth and costing money in repairs so downsized to a Hyundai Tucson. Just the right amount of room for the dogs and me and I can also have a passenger as well.
  19. I do not advertise that I have puppies until they are six weeks or older. Before that time, I am probably still deciding who is staying so there is not much point in people coming to look as they would not be able to choose. I also don't like to give out my address - you just don't know these days. Have heard of too many pups being stolen and not being found. I am not keen when people make arrangements to view two or three puppies on the same day either. I make sure that shoes are taken off at the door and hands are thoroughly washed before they interact with my dogs and pups.
  20. Congratulations Ashanali gee they look lovely & strong. What a great range of colours you got - sorry you didn't get your particular coloured boy that you wanted.
  21. Unfortunately in six to twelve months time, she may end up with Dally Welfare Poor baby dally ending up in a pet shop.
  22. No, they are not a miniature collie or a little lassie dog. Are they good with kids? Well, I hope so or your child hanging around its neck will get its face taken off. No, you don't shave their coat off for summer. No, blue puppies don't turn sable (red) when they get older. No, they don't take hours & hours to brush.
  23. For a sheltie coat to be that matted would take more than 2 months. It sounds like the undercoat has not been brushed out and has now become matted over a period of time. The coat would be brushed the same as your sammy - coat is brushed "backwards" against the way that the hair grows so that the brush gets down to the skin and lifts out any loose hair. Spray with a water spray and brush in lines. But as Hesapandabear has noted, it may be too badly matted to be brushed out and may need to clipped to get rid of the matts. It would be a long and tiring (both for dog & owner) to brush/comb the coat. I would be definately trying to recommend a professional groomer to do the job and then the owner can start doing weekly brushing so it doesn't occur again. Is your friend in contact with the breeder of their sheltie? I am sure they would be willing to give advice on how to groom the coat.
  24. What about M... Smart Bear, cause Yogi was smarter than the average bear
