  1. Anyones dogs have diahrea (sp) both mine went to the Bairnsdale shows and both have it now. Someone had a dog in the ring with it but kept showing her. Judge asked if she wanted to leave the ring but she said no. Bit inconsiderate in my opinion.

That's ok Im upset too and I don't own the breed and probably never would but it just annoys me that the breed gets blamed when I would guess all of them are cross bred mongrels,,, I cannot even begin to understand what the parents are going through right now,,, RIP little girl,,

Why dont you concentrate on explaining what irresponsible dog ownership is rather than breeds that bite? Anything with teeth can bite. I tried that but some people want to see statistics,,, this conversation has been going on all morning now,,, Ive said it all but he's still saying they should all be PTS

Does anyone here have the statistics of breeds in Australia that have bitten or mauled people? I'm having a "discussion" with someone at the moment who says all PB should be PTS, I say most of these dogs are crossbred mongrels of unknown parentage and a lot of rangers have no idea what a PB even looks like. Would like to be able to tell him that such and such a breed is more likely to bite then a PB but all I can find it statistics in America.
  6. I'd love the catalogue too please if someone could send it to me. [email protected]
  7. Where do you get crushed concrete from? We need to put a floow in our runs but I don't want to go concrete over the whole area. Yep, own a gravel eater We have a yard here in Ballarat where you can take broken concrete etc. and they crush it. Doesn't set as hard as concrete of course but hard enough to be able to rake it, especially once it's had a bit of rain on it, no shortage of that here lol
  8. I put down a base of crushed concrete for the caravan, sets nice, but at same time lets water seep through. Im thinking of putting it in my dog runs which are just mud baths at the moment. Largest piece is about the size of a twenty cent piece, with most of it being very very small.
  9. I use Richard at the Ballarat Vet Practice in Howitt St Wendouree,,have used Richard for the last 10 years or so,, never had a problem, he actually listens to me lol
  10. It's plain and simple,,, your dog, your decision. Tell him that's what you want.
  11. Is nothing sacred anymore? Some people will take anything so long they don't have to pay for it.
  12. Just heard that my baby silky won baby in group,, WTG Nikita and Colleen
  13. Quite a few staffies going missing around Ballarat at the moment too, being taken from peoples backyards.
  14. Chickens!! Supposed to be 16 and sunny Saturday, 17 and cloudy Sunday. Only a few showers. 6 and 7 overnight, almost a heatwave when you live in Ballarat lol.
  15. We will be there with our two silky babies, fingers crossed it doesn't rain.
  16. Wow! Not sure I would want my silkys trying to kill a rat that big. Even normal sized rats turn vicious when cornered by a dog
  17. Group One results anyone pleaseeeeee
  18. If this is true then half my dogs would have to be rehomed. I had suicidal bantams once who one by one used to fly into the dog runs and not come out alive! I think there is more to the story then meets the eye. There is no way a ranger would come onto my property to take a dog that had killed a neighbours chooks without me taking it further.
  19. Don't think my bitches would tolerate someone they don't know in with them while they have pups. Last time I had someone come in and check on a bitch of mine the bitch tried to bite them when they put their hand into the whelping box. Most bitches are very protective of their babies. Mine are fine until the pups get to about 3 days old then heaven help any stranger that walks into the room.
  20. Boys will be boys lol. Must be the teenage years.
  21. So sorry for you and your family. I would be concerned about the kids, make sure they are able to express how they feel. Guilt is an awful emotion to cope with at any time, but for kids it's harder still. Might pay to take them to a counselor just for a chat. Anky
  22. I sold a silky puppy here a few years ago to a family with a child that had allergies. After playing with the puppy on the floor for about 2 hours they decided the little girl wasn't allergic to the pup at all. I'm not sure if she was allergic to dog hair or saliva but two hours of being licked and slobbered on she had no reaction. I do know that silkys' hair has the same PH level as human hair.
  23. I have owned and bred a docked breed for over 30 years and in all that time only one person asked for her puppy not to be docked. I must admit I don't like the tails, there is such a variation in the carriage of them, some up and over the back, some stick out from the body horizontally. I think the silky looks so much nicer and more alert docked. It's only a personal view I know but then we have different opinions of whether the tail should be left with full hair that ends up looking like a papillons' tail or trimmed like I do. It says in the standard that tails should be free from feathering yet there are people out there still leaving the hair long. There are still judges out there that don't like the long tail, it's a personal thing I know but I still have problems seeing a dobe or rotty with a long tail.
  24. I never lower the price on puppies, just when I start to get edgy about the last one going a nice home turns up. A lot of people prefer a slightly older pup especially if they have kids.
