Thousands of Sydney Residents at War With Nuisance Dogs & Owners
persephone replied to samoyedman's topic in In The News
In another lifetime , when just about all cats were freeranging the city burbs ..I lost one to an irate neighbour .. and had one miraculously survive a car incident .Mine were even then, indoors at night , and when I was not home ... When I moved back to the bush .. my family couldn't believe I kept the cats indoors /with access to a wired 'cage'. That all changed once they got to know the cats .. Having somewhere for your cat to be safely housed can be cheap as chips, really --- for years I have used a discarded aviary - obtained free after it was tossed around in a storm . It is approx 15ft x 6ft X 7 ft and attaches to the house . It is kitted out with perches/logs etc . The cats have a view of the bantams/budgies ..and also of visitors to the birdbath alongside I figure that if dogs are to be kept confined and under control , then so should cats ... -
Seems you've done some research, which is good. if you get a pup - bear in mind it is a BABY - will need feeding 4 or so times a day ..watching and working to keep it safe , vet care , and puppy training It will need to be kept indoors , toilet training ..all that stuff. Who will feed it /look after it when you are away ..either at School . or out of an evening/weekend ? have a read here: CLICK

Hydralyte - Safe For Dogs?
persephone replied to Michelleva's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
there is nothing you can do at home - Parvo is a VERY serious illness , and he needs to be in hospital . if you cannot afford the treatment ,(have you asked the vet about paying it off ?) then the kindest thing is to have him put to sleep , sorry ... -
Excessive ear wax in Maltese terrier
persephone replied to Littleluna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Welcome . Your Maltese , if it is purebred, is not a terrier , just maltese ;) many people tack on terrier..... Now, a few questions , so we know a bit more - So - since the vet has used drugs , I presume there is an infection ? By excessive ear wax do you mean there is discharge from her ears which is not normal ..? Was she checked/treated for ear mites? Does she scratch a lot? Does she chew at her feet at all ? Does she have runny eyes ? Does the ear discharge smell different? What is she being fed ? have you spoken with the breeder? they may be able to give you some family history, and some advice . remember .. you can always go get a second Vet opinion if the current vet treatment doesn't appear to be working ...we can maybe share experiences to help you & your little puppy -
mmmm.. why not use a tracking dog?

How To Get Dog To Sleep On His Bed?
persephone replied to Cuko13's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If, as you said before , he is so sore that sometimes he has trouble getting up /walking - perhaps the cool/cold helps the pain? perhaps also , as he is only a youngster , he has had no good experiences of what we think dogs should sleep on ;) With him always having HD .. and pain/weird movement .. maybe he figures concrete doesn't have bumps, doesn't move, & doesn't hold him in an uncomfortable position ? *shrugs* maybe ....? Does he lie on his side ..one side in particular ? or does he lie like a Sphinx statue ? :) -
well, she thinks the dogs are her mob ... "Mulberries? Really ? "

i try to NOT look closely ... the one eating is HUGE .... he will bring a good price . That's the only way I can look at them, otherwise it's heartbreaking ....

..and if he is still in pain ..he may need a small low step or something to help get into/onto it ? use his favourite treats to show him it's a good spot :) -
We don't have free range fowl anymore ..but in teh past our dogs have eaten copious quantities of eggs ..fresh /stolen and wonderful . We didn't ever see any problem .. one old dog used to find nests and eat maybe a dozen in a sitting ... apart from the smell next day .. no problems .

he is probably warm .... as an adjunct - how did the latest vet visit go ? Did you get new Xrays /a new diagnosis of what is causing him so much pain? if dog is outdoors ..maybe get him a sandpit ..dampen it, and it's kinda like 'memory foam ' in that it will curve to suit a dog's body :) the key point about dog beds : the HAVE to be Where the dog feels is relaxing .. and suited to the body type/physical shape of a dog . :) -
What our dogs are needed for - and why they also have to be bloody minded and tough! The Boss & the crew mustered these feral/wild goats over the past week, many thousands of acres, and much dust .'The' truck comes for them tomorrow .... Don & 'Rudolph' Ash & mary mary ...
