I put my egg shells in the microwave for a minute or so and they become very brittle. You can then grind them very easily to a fine powder. Oh didn't think of M/wave! I just sit them on a window sill :) Thanks.

I agree with this actually. If he has not been accustomed to raw in the past it can be a bit hard on his tummy. I would have no problem feeding a quality canned food like Natures Gift to an oldie :) :) *nods*

Help To Settle Dog's Stomach
persephone replied to Sam the man's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
..it depends on why he is vomiting , as to what you can do to help :) nausea can be caused by many things .....I suggest a vet check first ... then some detective work to help find the cause perhaps? -

Pancreatitis 2nd Time 13 Year Old Dog :(
persephone replied to Tazar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your little old girl may be alive but not LIVING , if you know what I mean. It's sad she was able to eat unsuitable food and become ill ..poor old girl ..it's hard when something happens towards the end of a life... S My old dog ? pragmatism would win out here ... each illness takes a huge toll on an old fragile body , yes, as well as a wallet , and is keeping her alive enabling her to enjoy all that a doggy life can offer? Seems you have the decision front & centre - maybe you need a 'push' ? I would not think you horrible, no. -
with eggshell, DD ..let them dry , then grind them with a pestle & mortar ..or rolling pin & mix with food :) With old tubbies , perhaps you could use a reasonable canned product - like Nature's Gift ? All in one .. and ,plus some edible bone ... might be OK ?

That's a nice update to read ! :)

dried bones aren't wonderful ..you littlies would probably do better on whole chicken wings ..that would be a good meal for some of them ..meat/fat/digestible bone :) if you feed egg ... pound up the shell and add that too for calcium :) Chicken necks pounded with a meat tenderiser hammer and served part frozen Instead of giving him extra food .. so his tummy will always want more ... give him just a (part frozen) wing ..which will take him some time to demolish ..or a small portion of roo tail - so it will take him ages to get meat off .... see if he will chew apple rounds

Koolie Bitch - Sight Driven ...
persephone replied to persephone's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
kirty - that sounds fun :) She is very responsive /keen to please ..and probably in the right hands could learn LOTS ;) She VERY quickly got the gist of "show me" ..when she had an especially delicious bone/treat of which she was protective ..now it's thrust at me with much tail wagging and willingness ..then she lies down and waits for me to give it back :) Today, we will try new games :D -

poss has caught cats before ..her first was at around 12 weeks old!! .. ..so she knows about hunting ..and won't let a cat move once she has it cornered/treed .... Jo... no acquisition of dogs .. I get what falls my way ;) Possum's Grandma will use her nose ... then again, that may be more since her sight failed ;) :D Looks like a challenge!! -
Ok.... yes, I hunt feral cats/foxes when they are around. My Hamlet was such a good tracker because of the Cocker Spaniel mum I guess - he would quarter , and follow scent for quite long distances ..then would tree/bail up whatever he found. Think I was spoiled for all those years with my gorgeous boy ..and we knew each other so well .... Young Possum will happily and seriously bail up /flush cats IF SHE SEES THEM ..but has almost NO idea of using her nose - never has I am not into really formal training ... but I would love to get her to use her nose ..this evening we walked around and around for over a half hour ..I kept seeing the cats' eyes in the torch ..but she had no idea ...most of the time she was very nicely walking behind me ..would run ahead at my signal ..but kept looking at me - nose up in the air ..and not seeking anything in particular .. Can someone give me some simple tips to start her ? Would food trails help, or sorry I am cluelesss , but am badly in need of a helper . I am missing Hammie picking up dropped items for me as well ! Amazing how much I depended on him for picking up tissues , or bits of paper, or getting my shoes - carrying things from one person to teh other ... *sigh* ...... Poss doesn't live indoors , so she can't do all that .

That is so disturbing to picture. Long as it didn't have a little mouth as well. Tries to erase "Mr.Hankey" thoughts.............. and fails miserably ;)

inez- I hope you heal quickly .. though , from experience , that doesn't always happen. Worrying about DVT is also not pleasant . Take care.

I am in screaming agreement with you on this Corvus. Quick, someone alert the media!! yep!

:) I suggest you make OUTSIDE a WONDERFUL spot to be .. not a place to be shut in . have the really good toys out there ..his bed , feed him outdoors ... give him a couple of HUGE bones to chew outside ........play most of his games outdoors ..make indoors a place to chill, and relax :)

I <br style="color: rgb(70, 85, 132); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(250, 252, 254);">..and they had not done anything "wrong" in their doggy minds. often old dogs are attacked killed due to their odd body language , either because of a seizure or collapse , or failure to respond appropriately to other dogs because of failing eyesight/hearing. I was once witness to several 5-6 mth old labs who pretty much disembowelled one of their own ..... It does happen - they are DOGS , with their own codes of behaviour .
