  1. That's great Jessm, mines pretty similar actually although I never thought to put in a muzzle. The only thing I did differently was I bought horse bandages, pretty cheap and they actually stick as you go - thankfully I've never had to use them.
  2. So very pleased to hear - a great result for the puppy. Lets hope the owner becomes more responsible although from her reaction to the vets comments it doesn't sound like it Matthew - are you aware that in an emergency (bee sting) you can give human anti-histamin.
  3. Yes - news please. I've been thinking about the poor little thing non stop!
  4. Mine used to do this too and it never hurt them
  5. I know it kills cats, but after taking my girl to a very well know chiro in Sydney, he always used to tell me to give her either 1/2 an asprin or 1/2 a disprin with her food that night. He said it was pain relief and to ensure that the blood flowed well. I did what he said and it never seemed to harm her. Not that I would do it as a rule of course and certainly not with a puppy.
  6. Poor little puppy - I would be beside myself with worry. I know that you can give asprin and disprin to an adult dog in certain circumstances, but I have never heard of Codeine being given - let alone to a pup. I would be getting the poor little thing to a vet asap otherwise she might not have a puppy when she gets home.
  7. I have a pet first aid kit that I won at one of the shows and it is great, but I also added some antihistamin tablets and I keep a Domoso roll on too.
  8. They are both beautiful dogs although not quite sure where they got scotch collie from lol. No wonder the poor thing was feeling insecure, sounds like she's been pushed from pillar to post, thank god she's found herself a wonderful family Enjoy her
  9. Hi Kirsty, I think its lovely that you have taken on a "golden oldie" I have my own golden oldie, Cody who is also 12, but a very old 12 Although it is too much for my boy to go for walks anymore (and you will know when - if he is sprightly and enjoying them a leisurely walk is wonderful), my old boy can still manage to climb on the couch and spends most of his spare time there. When outside he is on a raised bed off the ground. Basically he gets away with murder as long as he is happy. I'm guessing your old boy is trying it on, who wouldn't want to stay inside on the couch if they can! I feed him pretty much the same as the others and everyone feeds differently, but he has Eagle Pack holistic with either a chicken carcus or sardines. I also add 1tspn of glucosamine powder morning and night together with a fish oil tablet - I believe it helps with his joints Wishing you all the best with your old boy, I think it sounds like you are doing a great job :D
  10. I used Vit E oil when one of my girls got her ear ripped. Only didn't buy capsules, but a bottle of the oil from the chemist and rubbed it on - that way no wastage. It worked really well but was expensive. For noses, I just use paw paw ointment.
  11. Or jump on your keyboard when you're trying to type!
  12. When we moved over we bought all our gear over in a container and had to pressure wash the mower, motor bikes etc to make sure there was no soil on them etc.
  13. I know every time we flew into WA we had to put all fresh fruit into the special bins at the airport, but as we were allowed to bring in sealed meusli bars etc that contain fruit I would think that you could bring it in if it was in a sealed container ?????? Especially as they sell imported honey in Woolies/Coles here.
  14. If your ever stuck for betadine or even savlon, I use good old fashioned warm salt water.
  15. Same as everyone else ;) I keep a couple of tins of Nature's Gift in the cupboard in case of an emergency. I usually keep an eye out for when its on special (usually about a dollar off per tin) and buy 3 or 4 and that would probably last me all year.
  16. Luci Ellem also does show training during the day on Wednesdays, although I can't remember the times. There is also show training at Castle Hill Grounds on a Tuesday night at 7pm. Run by the Dalmation Club but anyone can go.
  17. Sending healing thoughts your way - hope everything is okay.
  18. You can try adding a "small" amount of milk to her water. That usually encourages them to drink.
  19. VEGETARIAN and PIGS EARS in the same sentence - WTF Doesn't anyone else think that contradiction is a big weird????
  20. After having a few tummy episodes with various bones, I usually stick to chicken frames The only reason I don't use chicken necks are because they swallow them whole
  21. As soon as mine get a little loose, I put them on the Inner Health too. Definately seems to help.
  22. Has she always had the runs or just lately? Maybe its just me but 9 cups a day sounds an awful lot, even for a big dog - maybe she just can't cope with the amount. Again, just because its Advance doesn't mean its right for your dogs, I took both of mine off Advance as neither did that well on it and swopped them over to Eagle Pack which they do great on. That's just what works for me. Maybe someone like Sway who has danes could give advice on feeding quantities.
  23. Hi Lizzy, don't know if this helps but we recently moved interstate and I had to find a doggy chiro. After trying internet, yellow pages etc I decided to ask at my local vets. They gave me the number of a chiro, bowen therapist and accupunturist as well as a "Natural Clinic". I decided to try the bowen and have been amazed and delighted at the results. So my suggestion is ask your local vet. If you're in Perth then I can tell you there is a dedicated clinic in Midland.
  24. Ok, we took our last pup to Matt at Q. Hill - he just did one vacc though, we lost our boy way too early so it was hard to tell from just that one visit. The only thing with Q Hill was that you couldn't seem to make an appt so could not always get Matt. I think a lot of it depends on what you are looking for. Both the vets at Vineyard and Quakers Hill are used by a lot of show people/breeders. I chose Rob Zamit because he was reasonably close to me (I was over near Wisemans Ferry) and I knew he did hip/elbow xrays, had delivered litters of Ridgeback puppies and was familiar with the breed. The same applies to Quakers Hill. They specialise if you like. However, if you are looking for a good family vet who will cherish your dog, give annual vaccinations and cope with any emergency there are probably a lot of good vets in your area. Maybe ask friends/neighbors who have dogs who they use.
