  1. That's a very poor analogy. You are unlikely to be told if a car has had problems, but if you are concerned you would buy a new car or at least a car with a documented service history. The same opportunity is there with dogs. You can buy a new pup or you can buy an older dog that has a documented history. But if you do buy an older car or an older dog you have to accept that things may have happened that you will never know about. You are buying exactly what you see in front of you, and there are heaps of good older cars and good older dogs to choose from. When buying a car or a dog, I would give the same advice. Buy the best one you can afford, of a type that suits your lifestyle, from an ethical dealer. Cars or dogs that have obvious damage might be unsafe or unrepairable. But if you go out and buy a wrecked car, because you feel sorry for it, you won't seem compassionate, you will seem like a fool. As I said in my post, dogs are more than second hand cars and everyone is entitled to their own opinion on how to repair the damage but it does help IMO to know the cause. No it doesn't help. Inventing a fantasy tells us about the type of person you are. But it doesn't help the dog. You are entitled to give your opion and others are entitled to say that it is wrong. I think your attitude is harmful to dogs and your unwillingness to explain your reasons is selfish. Maybe you lack compassion? Very nasty comments Greytmate, it's time for the report button now.
  2. So Dr Kelman blames the poor people for Parvo,I would have thought it was 1. Ignorance 2. people who just don't care. We all know some people don't even vaccinate their kids, some peoples attitudes will never change.

I was using the second hand car as a metaphor, so I don't need a lecture or advice on them. As I said in my post, dogs are more than second hand cars and everyone is entitled to their own opinion on how to repair the damage but it does help IMO to know the cause. Maybe the person who bought the wrecked car didn't feel sorry for it but wanted it for spare parts, wouldn't be a fool after all.
  4. If I was buying a second hand car,I would like to know about the car's history. As a dog is more than a second hand car, it's only natural to wonder what this poor dog's life was before. Maybe I'm a little bit more compassionate about dogs than some here on DOL.
  5. Our Rottie Opal was a cruelty case, she'd been kept on a chain starved and bashed. We weren't told this but the look and the way she reacted to sticks and hand movements also the marks around her neck told the story. She had never been in a house either, and it took a long time to rehabilitate her. My new Rescue GSD girl Chloe although not abused, well that depends on how you look at it. At 8 mths has never been in a house - brushed - walked on a lead - had any basic training or shown any love. I don't think she's been with other dogs by the way she reacts when given a treatie. I believe it's most important that we have some idea of how these poor dogs have been treated so we can undue the damage, but it's most unlikely we will ever know so we just do our best as every dog deserves a second chance.
  6. Didn't know that but ours are always fed inside, even the water is inside as I don't want my dogs drinking water that birds wash and poo in.
  7. I think I love GSD's as Chloe is my 3rd, it's hard to believe she wasn't wanted. The only thing she needs is plenty of love and training of cause hugs, pats and cuddles on the lounge while we watch TV. Yes Aphra they are a very Intelligent breed and the love they have for their family is remarkable not to mention the loyalty.
  8. Agree. My boy was attacked by an of lead GSD, the owner just stood there screaming that my dog was killing her dog, because he knocked her dog down & held it, I was standing there making sure my dog didn't bite her dog, while I was asking her to put her dog on a lead, took her about 10 minutes to leash her dog, in the meantime, her dog tore into my leg, requiring me having to go to hospital & having over 20 stitches in my calf. She blamed my dog for the incident, because I had one of those vicious breeds. If the media had have been told of the incident, they too would have blamed my dog. When are people going to realise it's the owners, not the poor dogs. I'm very sorry for you and your boy, some people should never be allowed to own a dog especially GSD's. My new rescue GSD girl Chloe is 8 mths old and has never been in a house - walked on a lead - brushed - given any love or training. We don't know her background, but the way she acts it is clear whats happened. She's been kept in the yard, as some morons think GSD's are guard dogs. Then you get these stupid people who buy this wonderful breed, know nothing about them and when the dog grows too big and hard to handle because of no training they dump them as what happened to my new girl. :mad
  9. The R$PCA is a bloody joke, wouldn't know one end of a dog from the other. Many good dogs have been killed by this vile group of stand over bullies. :mad
  10. If my new Rescue GSD puppy had been surrendered to the R$PCA, she'd be dead now because this vile organization thinks that play biting, hyper activity etc are undesirable and can't be re-homed. :mad I say let Rescue groups do the Rescuing and re-homing and the R$PCA can go to Hell.
  11. Very sad for all involved, I can't tell from that very blurred video what's happening let alone what breed it is. The Media are quick to blame a breed, but it's the bloody Irresponsible owner who's always the problem. The other day I saw a person walking a young GSD past our house without a lead, I couldn't believe my eyes. It's illegal of cause but some people just don't give a stuff. :mad
  12. Congratulations, you must be thrilled. :D I also have a new one, just a little bit bigger.
  13. Just a few more pics of my new girl. :D It's been a long time since we've had a puppy and posted photos too. Yes Griff it has been a while, we still have Opal and Rex as you can see with their new friend.
  14. Thank you everyone, we don't know her background and it seems she's never been in a house or walked on a lead or given the love all dogs need. I did say I'd never get another GSD because of the cancer that took my Tara over a year ago, but this little one will help me get over the grief more than anything else.
  15. Hi Guys, I would like to introduce you to my new GSD Chloe, she's 8 mths old and quite a handful. :D A very special thank you goes to Hetty and Jan from GSD Rescue for the fantastic work they do saving and re-homing this wonderful Breed.
  16. MsDani I am so sorry for you and I know what you are going through, but you must do the right thing for your boy even if it's the hardest decision you've ever had to make. Last October I lost my beautiful GSD Tara to Cancer (Hemangiosarcoma) a very nasty Aggressive Cancer. I was given two options, an operation which might give her a few months or put her to sleep, I put her to sleep because I couldn't put her through all that and still lose her as it was not fair to her. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of her, as she was the love of my life and writing this brings tears to my eyes but I know I did the right thing.
  17. Yes NSW seems to be the best for now but we still have BSL, some Councils and the R$PCA who try their best to stand over people. :mad
  18. Once again Irresponsible morons abusing this wonderful Breed. :mad Anyone can train a dog of any Breed to be vicious, but the problem is the Breed gets the blame. :mad
  19. What a shame your wife is scared of Rotties, to judge a Breed on the actions of an Individual is very sad indeed.
