  1. Might not be a sale, could be a clearance just like David Jones. :D
  2. Exactly, irresponsible owner thinks it's funny, what happens if the poor dog gets hit by a car, gets in a fight with another dog, eats poisoned food, or possibly bite someone if it gets scared or threatened. People on here shouldn't be finding this story cute or funny. I watched the news report. Aside from being less than impressed by this thief which (by the owner's own admission) is guilty of 'wandering at large' on multiple occassions, I wondered if the journalistic slant or public reaction to the story would have been the same if it was a GSD, staffy, rotty etc Was thinking the same thing, had it been a Rottie or GSD . Fine the Irresponsible owner who allowed the dog to roam.
  3. Many people are scared of Rotties, including Vets. Their fear comes from the Media and of cause Irresponsible owners who think Rotties are vicious guard dogs. When you ask people who claim the breed is Aggressive and Dangerous, have you ever owned this breed the answer is always no. So what are Rotties really like ? My Rottie Opal came from a shelter aged 16mths,for the first 14 mths of her life she was kept on a chain starved and bashed. She was very fearful of me and if I raised my hand she would hit the ground, pick up a stick she would run for her life. She had never been in a house or walked on a lead and check chains terrified her, it took 6 mths before she lost most of her fear but the check chain problem took much longer. So here is a dog of this so called Dangerous breed that was also a Cruelty case, was my life at risk ? Hell no, at no time did she ever try to bite me and once I gained her trust I discovered what this breed is really like. Gentle, loving, Intelligent, loyal, Great with kids and big sooks. She will soon be 9 yrs old and very much a part of our family. :D Whether you get a Rottie or not,it's up to you but please don't take any notice of the bad things said about this wonderful breed because it's just not true.
  4. I made the above statement not to be sarcastic or funny, it was directed at those who see nothing wrong with killing a young healthy Greyhound who didn't race well and is no longer wanted. So what's wrong with me doing the same with my dog ? The answer is it's a bloody despicable act, unfortunately this is the attitude of many people who see their dog as an object only. I should mention my darling Rottie is alive and well and a very much loved member of our family, as it should be. :)
  5. I put my Rottie to sleep, because I didn't want her any more.
  6. So if a dog isn't on a lead its fair game? I think you will have to take many of the comments here with a grain of salt. The person you are responding to is talking about a thread where they tried to justify their dog's aggressive behaviour. I hope the other dog owner doesn't take that attitude with you. Your dog was off lead, and that attracts a certain fine. The other dog attacked and that attracts a larger fine and a dangerous dog declaration. Nobody here can know exactly what view council will take, but they tend to look at the consequences of what each dog has done, rather than at why they might have done it. They do not have the skills or resources to investigate the dog's temperament or history. The priority is to be seen to be taking action on any safety concerns to prevent re-occurrence. Unless your dog is reported by somebody else as the instigator of the attack, it is likely that they will see it as an attack and not just a dog fight. I'm glad to hear your dog is recovering. It will take a lot of time and special care before she is fully healed, and she may always have scars and muscle damage. I hope she is on anti-inflammatories to reduce the pain and on a good diet to aid skin and coat recovery. In the other thread Greytmate I took your comments at me with a grain of salt, just like this one, both you and the OP haven't got a clue what your talking about. Greyhounds can be aggressive too, but can't be very smart to take on a dog larger and more powerful than them. My vet treats Greyhounds and last year a Greyhound growled at my GSD boy (yes Greytmate growled) and when my boy growled back the Greyhound nearly crapped itself and this Greyhound had on a muzzle not too smart. ;) So Greytmate now are you going to say my boy is in the wrong because he growled back. The OP still hasn't said if it was an off lead area or not and I don't think the OP will be ringing the council either. :)
  7. This thread still going  I did forget one thing, sometimes I'd see these tiny little scratches on my car then I realised what they were - Bloody cats.
  8. So if a dog isn't on a lead its fair game? It's the law in NSW that all dogs in public MUST be on a lead and under control at all times, unless it's an off lead park.
  9. I would ask what they won't cover, as it's usually the things you need the most.
  10. In another thread some time ago I was telling people that I was sitting at the vets with my GSD boy, on lead and under control when another person came in with a dog and let this dog run at mine. My boy went this dog but I pulled him back before he bit the other dog, clearly the other dog was at fault. So IMO the greyhound (not on lead) is at fault as it ran up to another dog who was on lead and provoked it and I'm sure council will see it this way also. I'm sorry for your dog and I hope your dog recovers but whether it's a large or small dog,you must have full control of your dog in public.
  11. Ouch I bet that hurt, I wonder if she has learnt anything from this most likely no.
  12. It's a common problem in GSD's, my girl(God rest her beautiful soul) had several in her lifetime and my GSD boy has had only two. Feels like a large lump and when you squeeze it puss and what looks like a small white ball pops out. This leaves a nasty small hole which bleeds and I treat it like an open wound and rub Ilium Neocort into it twice daily till it heals.
  13. Yes doesn't everyone, after all they are our kids. :D
  14.  What next, lions to control feral dogs. :D
  15. Well aren't you clever, maybe you won't be going home sometime due to a road accident? Wow what a nasty person,I'd be very careful what you say and I suggest you read the forum rules if you want to stay on DOL. ;) I noticed Troy has deleted some of your comments already. Cat owners also have a Responsibility just like Dog owners to keep their pets on their own property. Whether I like cats or not is not the issue,I don't like cats using my yard as a toilet maybe you do. In NSW it is an offence to allow a cat to roam just like a dog so I can trap it and take it to the pound just like a dog. If a cat comes into my yard and my dogs kill it, then it's too bad for the cat. The life expectancy of many cats is 2-3 yrs as most are killed by cars, maybe there is a lesson to be learned here. :)
  16. Our council will rent you a trap, what a bloody joke. Cats come into my yard and poo every where and I can't do a thing, but two won't be coming back thanks to my dogs. :D
  17. I believe they are researching a vacc for this said cancer in the GSD now. Who knows if they will ever actually find a cure, i sure as hell hope they do. But vet told me it is so common in the GSD that 1 out of 2 dogs will die from it When my girl died, my vet said in 9 mths 6 GSD's died of the same common cancer the youngest only 5 yrs old and it could take 20 yrs to find the gene responsible. Does the breeder tell you that for your $1500 your dog might not live past 5 yrs of age because of Hemangiosarcoma, hell no. Breeders say they health test all their stock, but how do you test for this cancer as there are no tests. Hell there are no symptoms until it's too late. In 2004 I paid very little money for a Rottie I got from a shelter, we still have her and she is healthy she out lived my beautiful GSD as this cancer doesn't occur in Rotties - thank God.
  18. Mine are fed three small meals per day, they are not allowed out half an hour before and after each meal and bowls are raised. Whether this works or not who knows, but we have never had bloat yet.
  19. In 2003 I paid $800 for a GSD pup, she died recently of a cancer common in GSD's. Now GSD pups cost up to $1500 double the price, yet still have the same serious health problems they did then. It seems nothing has changed, only the price. :mad
  20. No wonder our poor dogs are confused, it might be a good idea to stick to the language you know eg English instead of using German words most people clearly have no clue of what they mean. ;) Down - Unten Drop - Tropfen :D
  21. Hopefully something will be done in this Country, as it is long overdue. If nothing changes, then people will simply stop buying Breeds that have a long list of Health problems just like me.
