  1. Drop - A word used in Obedience Training, but when said some dogs just look at you as if to say "that's what you think". Down - A word I use when I want to sit on the lounge, but some times get the above response and a very sad look.
  2. You may not care who is winning Best In Show or how many titles a dog may have but have you ever stopped to think that unless these dogs had good health and temperaments they would not be winning Best In Show. I would expect a reply like this from a breeder, as both breeds I will never own again had Grand champions, titles as long as your arm but their offspring have serious health problems and as a result their lives are cut short. I'm not saying all dogs in every breed have problems, but when you buy a pup of a breed you have never owned before and this poor pup a couple of years later develops a serious common health problem and the breeder says they have never had this problem what would you think. I've lost one to wobblers and one to cancer, both common in these breeds and all I'm told it's bad luck somehow I don't think so.
  3. Breeding to better the Breed, is like saying santa is real because we all know this is not happening. Every Breed has health problems and if you get a dog that's healthy your bloody lucky, but if you get a dog with health problems your on your own because on one cares and that's a fact these days it seems to be about money as some breeders don't want people knowing about health problems in their dogs. I'm sure there are some breeders who care but I've yet to meet them. As an average owner I don't care who won best in show or how many titles they have won, all I care about is health and of cause temperament there are now two breeds I'll never own again because of serious common health problems resulting in death. If some people are offended by my comments, who cares as it's me and my dogs that suffer and I'm the one who has to live with the sadness of loosing a beloved friend for the rest of my life. Please have a look at this. http://sydney.edu.au/vetscience/lida/dogs/search/breed
  4. Yes it's a very sad time, three months have past since I lost my beautiful GSD Tara to cancer and it's the worst thing ever. Edit for spelling, and still very upset.
  5. Great news, good to hear this poor pup will get a second chance at life.
  6. Very simple solution here, don't buy a pup from a pet shop or BYB. :D
  7. My Rottie walks over and puts her head under my arm that's using the mouse and pushes up several times making it impossible to ignore her, smart little devil.
  8. Some times being surrendered is the best thing that could happen, especially in the case of my Rottie who for the first 14 mths of her life were spent on a chain starved and bashed. I don't know what the excuse was for surrendering her as there are many but it saved her life. She has been with us now for 7 yrs and has been the most wonderful, gentle and loving girl a credit to her breed.
  9. The trouble is that he has been a high profile public figure commenting on dogs for so long that people look to him as an authority. I'm rather sad that after all these years of bad-mouthing larger and bully breeds and advocating breed bans even his slight change of heart will probably go mostly unnoticed because he is no longer so high profile and not commenting as often in public as he did. If he were trumpeting this change of heart from the rooftops like he used to do with his other opinions I think people would take notice. Hugh put me off years ago when he stated publicly he didn't like boxers :D That's been compounded with some of the things he says on his segment on Melbourne radio, but I have learned enough to take some of what he says with a very large grain of salt. I think a lot of people don't. After all, he's a vet, surely he knows, right?! Some people still think the R$PCA is this wonderful society till they find out otherwise, anyway leopards don't change their spots do they.
  10. As he is your dog, you make the rules not others and if people are offended who cares. Anyway you won't have this problem when he's a little bigger, as people will cross to the other side of the street when they see him.
  11. Does anyone really care what Hugh kill, kill, kill them all Worthless believes or says - I think not! :D
  12. I'm so sorry for your loss and I know exactly how you feel,I lost my GSD Tara 2 mths ago to the same Cancer. RIP Jack.
  13. Hitting your own dog is bad enough, but to hit an other persons dog is unbelievably wrong. :mad I have never hit any of my dogs ever, a firm no with a raised finger is enough as they soon get the massage.
  14. You have a very serious problem with your Rottie, it's called love and you should enjoy every single moment as they are only with us a very short time. Rotties and GSD's are the most loving and loyal breeds you can own, they love their family but do require training as this is something people forget. When the training is not given, words like Dominant and Dominance are used to blame the dog instead of the owner. People are Dominant dogs are not, all our dogs were raised like children (shock, horror) and turned out just fine. All ours sit on the lounge or our bed and our Rottie sleeps on the lounge at night. Your boy is still a pup and will not mature till about 3 yrs of age, you will notice he will become stubborn at times but don't worry it's normal just like digging large holes everywhere.
  15. Sounds like you want either a black and gold or black and tan dog. Just tell the breeder what you want and I'm sure you will be very happy, pups will change a little colour wise which is only natural. My boy is black and tan and my beautiful girl who I lost to cancer just over a month ago was a red sable. When my girl was a pup she was a fawn colour with a black face and little black tip on her tail, as she started to grow all the colours started to come through. GSD's are wonderful dogs and you get out of the dog what you put into him or her, they leave an everlasting impression on you.
  16. Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts at this very sad time for us.
  17. On October 4th I put to sleep my beautiful German Shepherd Girl Tara aged 8yrs 7mths as a result of Cancer. I can't believe you're gone, taken from us so suddenly. I will miss your cheeky nature, your licks, your Bark when I come home, sitting on the lounge with you. You were my Big Girl and I will miss you for the rest of my life, Goodbye my Darling Tara may you rest in peace till we meet again.
  18. Thank you,she seems alright and isn't bleeding but is not eating today will keep a close watch on her.
  19. Just realized I should have spelt it Polyp, silly me. The vet gave me it in a jar, it looks like a small tube. She has dissolving internal stitches so she won't have to go back vet said it shouldn't grow back. Snook, I hope your boy will be alright, sounds like you have a worse problem than I had so let me know how things turn out. Mel@Marengo, I'm glad the cream worked for you, it's much cheaper than surgery beleive me.
  20. Hi Guys, About two weeks my beautiful GSD girl Tara who is 8.7 years old started bleeding from her bottom,I first noticed a few drops of blood on the floor and she was always licking her bottom and when I lifted her tail I could see more blood in the hair around her bottom. As no wound or injury was found the bleeding was coming from inside, which scared the hell out of me thinking the worst eg. cancer. On examination by the vet I was told she had a polyp which had grown inside and had ruptured causing the bleeding, she was given tabs and cream I was told if the bleeding didn't stop after a week or so she would need surgery. Well the bleeding didn't stop so she had surgery yesterday, which went very well and today she's back to her old self. The vet said it's not a common problem and it might be because she's old. I have never had this problem with any dog we have owned before, so has anyone else had this problem with their dog.

At the end of WW2 people said we must never ever let this happen again, yet today we see Councils slipping on the Swastika to do what ever they like with people. That includes council storm troppers entering people's properties without permission and taking their innocent beloved dogs, what is this country coming too.
  22. The Media and Council have a lot to answer for don't they.
  23. 11 years ago, get over it ! and get a life. Was it really a Rottie or another figment of some Journo's imagination. I got bitten by a dog when i was young, but i didn't carry on about it for the rest of my life. Since when is it legal to carry a baseball bat around in your car ?.
  24. 65% say "NO" and counting keep it up the good work people, the Rottweiler breed thanks you.
  25. Once again the Media have proved what Morons they are If it's big and has a touch of black, it's a Rockwheeler. The picture shows a crossbreed dog of god knows what, that looks nothing like a Rottie - what a bloody joke.
