  1. It looks wrong to me, her lower back looks stiff and the hind legs not quite right. But it can be misleading to judge by just one photo and I am no expert. Maybe she has strained the iliopsoas muscle on the left side? That's what one of my 'zoi did, and it took ages to figure out the problem.
  2. I think DoLer Huski works with him, maybe PM her. (I hope I have that right, apologies if not).
  3. quote name='mita' timestamp='1400722119' post='6489386'] Wish there was some way to bring Rocco to the notice of Maltese-Australians. He's a beautiful example of a Pharaoh Hound ... the new name given by British Kennel Club to 6 dogs imported from Malta, original breed name Kelb tal-Fenek ('Rabbit Hound'). It's the national dog of Malta & is on the stamps and coins. http://www.k9magazinefree.com/k9_perspective/iss11p8.shtml Maybe he could be listed here if the site owners agreed? Canberra and Qbyn Maltese Community site[
  4. I believe DoLer Aidan is in Tas and does behavioural work, I would be contacting him. And getting a full vet check. Edited to correct the name.
  5. FHRP, I think the financial ombudsman deals with insurance matters, maybe lodge a complaint with them.
  6. link This might be going a little far.....
  7. A cat I had in my twenties was very protective, including twice flying across the room to attack a housemate who was arguing aggressively with me. She was just a little tabby but she was very protective of her little family, even the dogs who were five times her size.
  8. I have yet to see it, touch wood. Always have my eyes open for it though. I wonder if some breeds are more susceptible as the incidences I hear vary a lot.
  9. Some of those asking have drunk the Kool Aid though. Ask once because they have to and they get a polite refusal. Treat me as if I am selfish to refuse and they get more of an explanation, and lose my custom.
  10. Lol Diva - you and me both - I reckon I'd end up in the nearest lake. Sounds like great fun though! Yeah I can just see mine deciding to chase a roo and me dragged behind bouncing on the dirt  But I have gone along to watch before and it is great fun, the participating dogs look to love it.
  11. I wonder if she could take action against the council for failing to enforce the leash law, therefore discriminating against her as a disabled person by denying her the ability to use a guide dog on suburban streets. That would be interesting.
  12. The main thing will be letting the breeder know you are interested in showing and therefor you are looking for a main register show potential pup. You will want to find a breeder who has bred dogs that are shown either by themselves or others, and who is friendly and helpful. Not one who breeds only for the pet market but asserts their dogs are show quaiity , as a beginner you need someone experienced to guide you. In some breeds it is relatively easy to get a show pup while in others quite difficult, I am not sure which JRT s are. But you will probably have more chance of getting a boy than a girl. It may not be a big winner as most breeders are reluctant to place their best with beginners, but a good breeder should be able to let you have a pup that is competitive enough to have fun with. Your state breed club would be a good place to start. Or go along to a few shows and start talking to people who have dogs you like the look of.
  13. I think they are gorgeous. I am not the right sort of owner for them though.
  14. Me too. Petbarn staff tried to get me to donate to them at Christmas time, I politely said no but when they pushed I reminded them of the 2 other big pet supply stores not 2 minutes drive away that wouldn't roll their eyes at me.
  15. I would drop a note into their mail box saying you have noticed the dogs are redirecting agression onto each other when you walk past and you are concerned they may not realise. It is not an uncommon problem and as they have said they are working with a trainer they have somewhere to get advice.
  16. Very tempted, but I think the Borzoi would go bush.
  17. Yes that is true. I haven't had a fight between mine in the last two decades. And the only squabbles I can remember before that I can count on one hand and they were just some swearing and noise, no injuries. I put most of that down to the breed. A rude adolescent might get put in its place once or twice, without any harm, if it behaves badly but that is about all I have had within the 'family'. But you can never say never.
  18. I only use them for travelling, at events etc, I would use for injury but haven't yet. I also use them for visiting dogs to sleep in until I know they are ok unsupervised in the house, and for very young puppies, but I don't often have either
  19. Your poll doesn't work, I can't vote no without answering the second part, and there is no 'no aggression' option in the second part.
  20. I thought the photo was the victim's dog too. The attacker took off so I doubt they have a photo.
  21. They like it from me and people in their extended family. If I look over at them of an evening they are often looking at me, and if I hold their gaze they kind of smile a bit. I don't think they would like it from strangers but unless it was accompanied by other signals I doubt it would bother them much even then.
  22. Yeah but while you are focussed on it the other one is circling around behind you.
  23. Most times we have been attacked there have been two dogs. Tbh I discovered there is little I can effectively do against 2 determined dogs and I am just glad mine can fight if they need to. One attacker and I have some chance. The only time I have been charged when I was on my own with no dog with me was in my own driveway, I kept my back to my car and stayed still until the dog lost interest and moved on, had he not moved on I would have tried to get into the vehicle.
  24. Diva

    Omg!

Very horrible. From the radio report it sounded like the dog was resident on the property where the attack occurred, or belonged to a family member. Edited to add: according to the SMH the dog belonged to the victim's 70 year old daughter, who received injuries to her hands. Two strangers intervened to get the dog off. Sounded terrible.
