  1. Decided to delete and not bother, other people's dissapointment is not my problem.
  2. What was your romanticised idea? I am interested to know what your expectations were.
  3. I am sceptical it happened as they report, I feel a lot of sympathy for the child but it just such a convenient thing to happen for fundraising and publicity it brings out my inner cynic.
  4. 10 months can be a challenging age! It sounds like the dog needs to learn how to control herself when excited, to really get it sorted you might need to do a lot more sit or stay work in increasingly tempting and exciting environments, as she masters one level of excitement gradually escalate. And/or manage the interactions through separation, I would probably do both until she gets control of herself. A crate or other 'safe place' might work well for her. You might want to google Karen Overall's relaxation protocol, fairly obvious stuff but structured.
  5. Yep, what ssm said. I would move heaven and earth to help a dog I had bred be safe and happy, whether that meant bringing it home or finding a home. But if I didn't breed it, my response is situation specific. There is also a community element to it as I have a less common breed, I know those in my breed or related breeds who would help mine if they needed it and who are responsible about their own, and I will try harder if they are in need of help.
  6. Some countries treat them as varieties of the same breed and some as separate breeds, I think the intention of the original founders was to separate them as varieties of one breed on regional lines and that meant coat and colour, the names come from regions. They could all be one breed I guess and judged as one, but I expect the differences in type make that unlikely now despite the standards being the same except for coat and colour - they don't look like one breed under the coat to me anymore and neither are the temperaments identical. The interbreeding issue has been hugely controversial at different points in time. I know there are some breeders on here who will have a much better answer.
  7. No rage from me, I thought I had been polite. LoL.
  8. It's Belgian Shepherds, not Belgium Shepherds, sorry to be picky but what you are saying would be like calling a German Shepherd a Germany Shepherd. Used to be a big annoyance when I had them. I think all intervariety breedings need approval and only the listed types will be approved, but I am out of touch with it. Edited to add, the pups of an approved intervariety mating would be registered as Groen, Terv, Laek or Mal, whatever the coat type it had. Not as a cross. The Belgians suffered significant genetic bottlenecks due to the world wars etc, which is I think at least part of the reason intervariety breeding has been allowed. The rules have changed a couple of times. The approvable matings are largely I think because they will produce only the registerable colour and coat types
  9. A DoLer called tangwyn sells it, she is in Sydney. Castle Hill I think.
  10. I know the breed, it will be another Borzoi. But I have to meet them and get to know them before coming up with a name.
  11. I am not sure why they describe her as not like a usual whippet, the traits they mention sound like a lot of the whippets I know. They make nice pets.
  12. So do I, mine is from an injury to my lower back as a child and has caused me huge amounts of pain over the years. Esky, I do want to emphasise that I didn't comment from an aesthetic or 'beauty contest' point of view, but only because an uneven stance and uneven muscle development in a young dog is worth checking out to me. But my standards of care and awareness of these things are probably higher than most and I certainly didn't mean to be a source of stress for you. I hope it is nothing.
  13. I would definitely check with the chiro about his back end, from the rear photo he looks to have more muscle development on his left thigh than the right and that can indicate he is protecting an injury by shifting the load. Although tbh it could just be the black marking is deceptive on his right. For the food you know best from being hands on but maybe keep an eye on it. He is lucky to have an owner who cares so much.
  14. He doesnt look as heavy as you say, 40 kg is a lot for 25 inches. But he seems to have tuck up and doesn't look too fat in the photo, I like my adolescents a little leaner and if he were mine I would take a bit off him but I am used to racier builds and he looks ok. Nice looking boy :) nice balance, looks to be turning a back foot out which would concern me if it were normal and I wanted to do athletic things with him, but in one photo it can just be chance.
  15. There have been previous posts on DoL about this, it is not new news. There will be one quarantine station, in Melb. If there are delays in getting that started it is a concern, but I dont think it is about importation of dogs or cats being banned overall as people seem to fear-the majority that come in are people's pets, not show or breeding animals. We are a small part of the picture. Costs will go up though, I think that happens soon, and it is tough on people in the west for sure.
  16. Sounds like puppy vaginitis which is not uncommon. It often self resolves but if you are worried consult your vet, I probably would if she were mine. If she is to be spayed before her first season let the vet know she gets it. Often coming into season is what sorts it out.
  17. What a treasure, being able to describe different working styles like that is such a depth of knowledge.
  18. A good cause does not excuse awful behaviour. Especially when that same behaviour is now being complained about. As someone said, its pot and kettle, and as much as I abhor internet bullying I don't cry for the pot.
  19. Actually that was the first thing that came to my mind too.
  20. No, my dogs rarely sleep on the bed at home and never when away. I usually put a cover on the lounge/couch when we are away in case they get up, but they sleep in crates if the rules about furniture are very strict.
  21. No, no special entitlement. But if you need time off you should be able to access normal personal/sick leave. Not as a matter of course because a pet died but because it had affected you very adversely, that is the real test.
  22. It all sounds highly supect - mysterious 'vanishing' breeders, pounds that don't seem to exist, mutiple rehomings. I hope you get the right paperwork then ditch the lot of them.
  23. When my girl was injured she suffered some muscle atrophy which complicated recovery, I think once things become chronic it can be hard to get them back.
  24. Well if he found one he would have found it on the girl too I assume. Perplexing.
