  1. Tiggy - my kids were pretty good at offering behaviours - so I put the hula hoop on the ground and clicked and treated as they walked up to have a look. I usually threw the food away from the hoop on the ground so it became very obvious they they were being rewarded for interaction with the hoop. I then rewarded for 2 feet in the hoop, then three feet then all 4 feet in the hoop - each time I would throw the food behind me or away from the hoop so they would have to get out of the hoop to get the reward. I then started putting a verbal sit for when all 4 feet were in the hoop and I would then reward this in position. From there I gradually increased the distance they were going to the hoop - until it was the full length of the driveway. I always ended the session with them wanting more.
  2. Its only a case of teaching them the new cue - he must know what wait means but to him at this point in time sit doesn't mean wait. PSST - just because the rest of the class uses sit and wait doesn't mean you have to. An example of this is "bang" on the see-saw - everybody used to use touch, contact or wait and then one person used "bang" and now lots of people do.
  3. I have highlighted a possible cause of the stay problem - but the other thing that is very striking is that it sounds like you are expecting way to much from him - you are aiming for something much longer than he is capable of. He was fine for the 2 weeks that you went back to baby stays. You also have to remember that he is a boy - boys have short attention spans, and just when you think that they know what you are asking - you have to go back and explain it all again . So hang in there and if anybody else has some suggestions - please throw them out for Mason's mum to try
  4. Consider this a slap (bugger I don;t have access to all the extra emoticons ;) ) You are being negative - Rubystar will tell you we don't do negative You have not broken it down small enough pieces to fix the problem You must have lumped This is not a dog problem but a handler one :D Go to the back of the class and come back when you are little Miss Positive please xx PS - perhaps you need to post what is happening, how you have tried to fix it, and ask for some suggestions on where to go from here :D
  5. Thanks for the feedback Mrs Rusty Bucket. I watched the 2nd of the SG 2x2 video last night (for the first time) and I think I am on the right track and hopefully my throwing will improve. I think it is probably worse because I reward so heavily in obedience for her focusing on me - now I have changed all the rules and said nope I now want you looking ahead. I hope to go back to using the i-sqeak as a reward when we have the looking/head issue sorted. I am going to give her a break for 2 weeks until I move house and will then restart it all over again.
  6. OK Leopuppy - I will ask the stoopid questions Whats the theory behind using multiple seekbacks and when a dog is having confidence problems why would you set something like this up.eg as we did a keyhold track (the one where you end up back near the start peg, and the articles are at the back of the ring near the box) PS not picking on you - just wondering what the reasoning is behind it all - it might be something we could all use ??????
  7. She has a really cheeky face and as everybody else has said is adorable :p How have the others accepted her and how are the puddles inside going?
  8. Argh creative handling - its beautiful when it works
  9. I have to smile watching this run AD you were so controlled to begin with and then the second half you had to pull your finger out and the faster you went the faster Xena went :D Well done - and the best bit you both looked to really enjoy yourselves Now if only all the runs were like this
  10. 4 quallies from 6 runs is a great success rate - the rest was the icing on the cake - well done you have every right to be tickled pink
  11. Geez talk about jumping the gun They haven't even all finished uploading yet, are you stalking my channel :p About 20 mins left for the last vid. Here are the first 2 Rally-O vids, will edit once last one is ready: Edit: last vid Beautful heelwork Rubystar :D
  12. Woo Hoo Rory - how good is that. and thanks for the encouragement Tassie - you mean I should retire her before she has begun :D
  13. Dare I ask how your evil hound is going with them. I started 2 x 2 with Soggybear using an i-squeak to throw on the reward line - but I noticed that she was running between the poles looking over her shoulder at me waiting for me to throw the ball. So then I decided to get off the grass and to do it on the driveway and to use chunks of cheese. Now I have noticed that she is running through the poles looking up in the air - waiting for the food to come flying past I know SG covers this in the DVD - but her thorwing abilities must be much better than mine - yes I am throwing underarm. I have progressed to 4 poles - but know I will end up going back and starting again!
  14. Seita - do you end up with bruises from where she bangs into you on a present. Is this something new or has she always done it? BM is a lovely judge :-) No bruises, she doesn't hit that hard but yes it is a new thing. She's only started it in the last 2 weeks about the same time she started dropping in the box instead of sitting. She used to slam into my legs on recalls when we first started trialling but hasn't done it in ages. I've got a bit of work to do on both sending to box and the way she presents back to me after the jump! I love Barbara too! She's a really nice judge. I walked into the ring last night and she goes "Hi I haven't seen you in the ring in ages!" and then at the end says she hoped to see me in the ring more often. I've only trialled under her once or twice before!! Is the banging into you stress related??? Have a look at your first send to the box signal on the first clip you posted she goes in exactly the direction you pointed
  15. Well done to Caffy and her obedience dog Snazzy who took out both masters runs today Let also not forget the old fella Alex who managed a 4th in masters too :D Well done mate
  16. Huski - did you put Daisy in the Ekka this year?
  17. My older kids love the figure 8 at the start of heeling - I think thats because they are anticipating their jackpot and I usually find if we have to go off and do the rest of the heel routine its usually extra nice. Most of our judges do the figure 8 at the end. One of our UD judges does a seeback the "weird" way as Ness called it - so you end up back at the end of the ring you started with. This judge will also do some more heeling after the signals bit in signals. We did have one judge come over for the Western Classic who did a DOR and I counted to 12 before he said call your dog - that brought a few dogs undone.
  18. Its interesting watching the rounds from other states. When I went to Brisbane for the obedience Nationals a couple of years ago I couldn't believe that you would get every position in every pace in CCD . In fact the CCD and novice rounds were harder than the open round Watching huski's rounds from today her heeling round lasted longer than the signals round in UD. Hmm - makes me think I have a long way to go with Soggybear!
  19. Look at Daisy's tail go You should be really pleased with this
  20. Seita - do you end up with bruises from where she bangs into you on a present. Is this something new or has she always done it? BM is a lovely judge :-)
  21. OK hands up those who want to get rid of down stays as well as sit stays - stupid exercises Huski - how far into the down stay did she break yesterday and today?? Glad to hear you have picked positives out of what happened and dare I ask do you have a plan for working on those down stays?
  22. Welcome to UD Seita - where every exercise breaks and you put it back together again only to have a different one break the next trial. Things that have never been a problem in the past come and bite you on the backside Good luck tomorrow - hoping you pass and get one of those pretty pink cards. Did you get todays rounds on video?
  23. What a bundle of joy Fable looks and whats even better is that you other half is into dogs and wants one of his own Looking forward to hearing more Fables Bugger about the down stay Huski - did anything get her attention or do you think that she just got up because there was nothing happening. What do you think you can do next time to stop her dropping out of drive on the way to the start post. Just remember you still got to take the best dog home Well done!
  24. So tell us more what did you work on what was his attitude like and stays - dare I ask????
  25. Thats a BIG Brag Terranik - dare I ask how your backside is feeling?????
