  1. The panting would be a sign of pain, maybe clarify with the vet that they did in fact do biochem as well as haematology, did they tell you what the results were? Might be worth trying him on some k/d or l/d in case he needs something really bland to ease the load on his insides but obviously you will have to check with your vet on that.
  2. No worries I hope he is feeling better soon :)
  3. From what I can tell from google the haematology analyser is different to the chemistry one, looks like the haematology one looks at red and white cells, platelets etc. If he doesn't pick up enough for your liking I'd be asking for a biochemistry profile as well just to cover as much as possible.
  4. Did they do bloods to check for liver damage? The pacing and hiding can be caused by various toxins and can be associated with liver damage. I'd also be worried about bait
  5. That's awesome! I doubt any of my pics would be good enough to blow up to that magnitude but it would be cool :)
  6. So cute! :) I can't get my dogs to wear anything cute they are very unccoperative.
  7. Well let me know if you do ever decide to print up a glossy book I'd love to get one for a friend who is into wildlife and photography :)
  8. Ah ok cool no worries :) I agree I think the ideal situation is that the OP gets to keep their dog without the stress of worrying about its barking disturbing the neighbours.
  9. I don't know if you're referring to my post the owner I was referring to was considering rehoming, I didn't suggest it and tried to steer her away from that idea as I know there certainly aren't a wealth of good homes available for older dogs of that breed/mix, particularly if they have issues. I totally agree with you re rehoming a barker.
  10. There is very much a perception that debarking is cruel, a friend of my mums asked for my advice with her non stop barker, she had moved and the dog's barking increased because of the neighbours dogs. Apparently rehoming a 10+ year old dog is more palatable than trying a barking collar and the reaction to my suggestion of looking at debarking was extreme (they have already had one neighbour threaten to complain to council). I dare say there is more than a little anthropomorphising going on as the owner proudly admits that the dogs are her babies so I should probably have anticipated the reaction, it still came as a surprise to me though. Some people seem to have trouble understanding that a dogs perception of itself is not the same as the human perceptions, the dog doesn't understand that his bark no longer carries across three blocks, he barks, a noise comes out, he's happy :)
  11. It's entirely likely that the ratio of neglect in the homeless population is probably the same as it is across the normal population if anyone had the inclination to do a study on it, as others have said its more visible on the street instead of someones backyard. The availability of resources is probably not as signficant a factor either as we all know plenty of people who buy the cheapest nastiest dog food and balk at paying vet bills even though they have far more disposable income than any homeless person. It's great that the assistance that is available for the homeless recognizes the importance of pets and provides support for them, no its not the ideal, ideally they would have homes and a better ability to give their pets everything they want to give them, and we should always strive for improvement but taking their pets is unlikely to help anyone. If you can afford it maybe carry some gift vouchers for a pet supply store with you so that you can help them out without worrying about cash?
  12. Seriously a collection of these in print would be awesome, do you get them published anywhere?
  13. Thanks Redangel :) Love my bucky boy he is an absolute sweetheart.
  14. I think you need to make a coffee table book of all these pics they are amazing :)
  15. Thanks kja :) It's hard to catch him he whizzes around for about a minute then settles back to grazing lol. I need to go to another event and practice some more action pics.
  16. Thanks :) Louie is the chestnut he has always had a lovely coat, I think it's because he has very fine hair, some horses have it some don't. Hormones can also create a bit more iridescence than a normal coat, Lou is a gelding but does have a few more hormones than he really should I think. B's coat shines as well but it's more subtle and really hard to capture with the camera. I like the hooning ones too sometimes they turn out blurry but I'm getting better at waiting for the camera to do it's focus thing I think so I didn't get as many blurry ones this time.
  17. Thanks everyone I am lucky to have such pretty ponies :)
  18. I would much prefer a 'like button' (Please bring it back Troy!) because I often feel that yet another 'lovely' or 'cute' is a bit redundant, and like many others I wouldn't know a bad pic from a good pic (as those who have seen my pics will attest! ) so I'm not going to critique. I'd like the option of being able to let the photographer know that I like their pic without having to think of something new and interesting to say about it, I know 99.999% of the population probably couldn't care less if I post 'great!' on everything but I just don't see the point of cluttering a thread with a post that says the same thing that everyone else has said, if you have a like button you can let them know :) If I view 5 threads and post 'great' every time it's going to do my head in As for critiques personally I'm happy to take any comments and critiques, I would like to improve but mostly I just like sharing my animals because I think they are beautiful :D When I take pics at horse events I like to share because I know plenty of people like horses and like to see them doing their thing :)
  19. Thanks :) Yeah B was charging around full pelt it was all very exciting apparently lol. He has been kicking out a lot more the little bugger, getting a bit full of himself.
