  1. I am so sorry for your loss its hard loosing a beloved dog member of your family. My Anna has Cushings and with tumours on her liver they think. So she has come home to spend her time with us untill its time. I have a similar problem Anna is Cedro's mum he has never been away from her. In the last month or so she has been at the vets for a few days each time and he has been really upset about her being away. When I lost Bob and Molly on the same day my Gilly nearly died of sadness, then Anna and Cedro came and he picked up and now is happy. He is 20 so I am really worried about him as well when Anna isn't here. Its so complicated I just take a day at a time now. I was thinking about taking Cedro with me when its Anna's time but thanks for the advice about giving that last time with Anna.
  2. Anna is having ups and downs . Ups because she is eating normally again, downs because she is vomiting again. At least food is staying in her stomach long enough for her to gain some energy from it. She is getting weaker in the back legs/hips but seems to be happier. She even had a chew on a bone yesterday. But she is so skinny not melting away but heaps thinner than she was.
  3. I think Maned wolves lived in long grass plains areas but not sure. BABY MEERCATS arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I haven't been to a zoo since by boys were under five and the oldest is 44 now so some changes must have happened. I don't like caged animals much but would go just for the meercats.
  4. The don't recognise Bassett Fauves I think they are the only country that don't now. Ps to say I just read they are adding them to hounds this year, that's great news for the breed. They are such wonderful dogs. I would have a pack if I had the land and the fences!
  5. Anna has been nodding off in the sun this morning and I just called them in and Anna couldn't get up the step, she has no strength in her back legs, she can walk and stand but any more than that and she cant do it. We are down to one steroid a day and its very obvious. Today is the second day she has kept her food down,to balance that is she is drinking heaps more again, her poos are still black and nasty but at least it isnt runny. I think I will ring the vet and see what he thinks about keeping her on a full dose of steroids. I would like some opinions is the damage they do ruled out by the quality of life?
  6. The only thing she is interested in is raw chicken and she has just brought up most of what she ate last night. She is drinking though and that's a plus. She used to love scrambled eggs with sardines. I will get some more fish today and try some steamed fish on her. Maybe try chicken broth in ice blocks as well.
  7. I decided last night no bones after she vomited again. What do you mean high protein? She will eat chicken frames and wings with no problem sometimes a little mince. Ive tried her on eggs, fish and her fav vedges and she isn't interested.
  8. A wet Gilly is pretty stinky as well. Could you use Bi-carb all over the place? Luckily I have only one dog that loves the water and she isn't well so wet dog stink isn't here very often. My Bluey Ringer couldn't go past a dead thing without bringing it and its maggots home on her fur. That was when her and her friends hit the creek.
  9. Today is a bit of a down day I was feeling like I could finally relax but she has vomited twice the most vile stinky stuff. She ate well last night and she had a bone to chew for a while, not really interested though. She is now walking with us down the yard, I have half and acre so she gets in lots of sniffs while she is walking. I have to admit she isn't bouncy. I cut her steroids by half tomorrow so not looking forward to see what will happen. My dad had a 5 year life expetency with his cancer and he had more than 20 so Im trying to be positive. I am sleeping heaps. Ive been sleeping in which is unusual for me and nana napping in the afternoon. I feel really drained. I think its the not knowing. I will get over it and get into a routine and we will settle in and be ok.
  10. I know she isn't going to survive and vet says up to 12 months but I going to be thankful for every day.
  11. I have to put this up, Anna ate last night one and a half chicken wings more than she has eaten in two weeks. The steroids are kicking in.
  12. Its hard in this house because Gilly was once traumatised by a whole doggy class squeaking their toys at once, so now we cant have them. He just gets this terrified look and runs and hides when he hears them. He doesn't run from mice or rats though. I need a good strong retractable lead for Cedro, can anyone tell me of a good one? Are they suitable for hounds?
  13. I think he was glad to hear her sing because yesterday she couldn't. Yep who knows how long Ill have her for but I will make it a good time and love her to bits. Cedro has been really down since mum went away he will be happy as well. We will have a happy house again.
  14. Yes she is coming home, vet said she isn't better but she is happier and he found out what a Fauve sounds like in full voice!
  15. I went to visit Anna today and she is feeling much better, she wagged at me and wanted out of the crate. She ate some food last night, not a lot but some is ok, she is still on the drip but she looked so much happier. I am waiting to see what the vet says, Im hoping she can come home today and we will go day to day from here. Just to see her with some spark lifted my heart. It was wonderful.
  16. I went down to see Anna today she is feeling a lot better, she is still on the drip but ate a little bit last night. She wagged at me and woowooooed when I left so that's good news. She isn't better but she has more energy and maybe we can now start her on more meds. I hope she can come home this arvo. ps to say she is coming home this arvo.
  17. She is still at the vets I was hoping she could come home today. They did her calcium tests again today and they have gone down a bit but others have gone up. Vet said normally these levels don't go up and down so fast. She still hasn't eaten but is drinking and weeing so that's good. I am going down to see her tomorrow just so I can see for myself how she is and make up my mind what to do. I feel so exhausted I miss her to bits and Cedro is pacing the hall waiting for her. he has never been away from her, he is her son. Ill make this my last up date unless something miraculous happens.
  18. She has a tumour that has spread they think to at least her liver. If she is well enough today she is coming home we will keep her comfortable and hopfully happy until its her time. No operations and no more scans just going to leave her alone. The vet is going to use steroids to try to bring down her calcium levels if we can do that she will feel a bit better.
  19. After talking to the vet yesterday arvo and all the info we have collected I have made a decision. Anna they believe has a tumour that has metastasized to her liver and proberly other parts of her body. Because her calcium levels are so high we are going to try to get them in control with steroids and Im bringing her home and keeping her comfortable until it is time for her. I want her to be with me for her last bits of life and not shipping her around to places that will stress her make her sicker. I thought about this all day yesterday and slept last night for the first time for a while. I feel its the right decision for her. She can come home eat whatever she likes and do whatever she wants to do. We don't know, she might be ok for a long while but the vet has told me to be ready.
  20. I made a sacred promise to my dogs there would be no dressing up of dogs, but after seeing these outfits I feel the need to make merry with my doggies.
  21. The vet is ringing the specialist today to see what they think and to get a quote. I am trying to be calm and to stop thinking the horrible thoughts I seem to be locked into.
  22. He did all the tests we did a month ago they were normal then except for her calcium which was just bit above normal. Now her calcium is through roof as are her liver tests. But yes Pers I hope she is feeling better. I hate not having her here but she hasn't really eaten since last wendesday, I feel she wont be here for too much longer and want her close by. ps to say they cant start to medicate her for cushings until they find out what is making her so ill. So hopfully she will improve and then they can start he on her meds and we can go on from there.
  23. Vet just called he is really confused her calcium levels are really high as are her liver tests. She is staying there for tonight to get her on a drip and get a lot more hydrated. To me it sounds like whatever it is its spreading. Her last bloods were all perfectly normal, except for a little rise in calcium, now that is way up, that was about a month ago. Can get to a specialist wouldn't know where one was closest would be Tamworth,h that's 370ks away and I don't have a car. The vet thinks she may have had cushings for longer than both of us thought.
  24. She isn't well the vet came and got her ( I don't have a car) and doesn't understand why she is so ill. Even with Cushings she should be showing signs of improvement. I spoke to him about an operation but he thinks this is in her brain and said he cant operate on it. He also said she would have to go to a specialist for an op because its so close to major arteries.
  25. Thankyou DDD Vet just came and got Anna he doesn't understand why she hasn't eaten or had anything to drink, she should be feeling a bit better. So she is having more tests, they will go over the first tests they did a month ago to see what is happening. They cant medicate her for Cushings until they find out what else is wrong. To me it feels like she is dieing, it feels like she has given up. He thinks she may have an infection and has had cushings for longer than either of us have known, he also said it may be a tumour on her gland in her brain. This might be why she is getting so ill so fast. Hopfully all will be well and she goes on a drip and comes home soon.
