  1. Next year the Celtic Festival in Glen Innes will celebrate Brittany. So I thought that it might be a good time to get together with some other Basset Fauve de Bretagne's and their people, to walk in the parade and walk around the Standing Stones if I can organise it. mI just asking to see if anyone is interested.
  2. This is a constant problem on sell, swap and buy up here. A while ago a women advertised a dog aggressive wolfhound cross, that was good with her kids but hated other dogs! She had allowed her under five children to play with it! I suggest that it might not be a good idea to rehome an aggressive dog. I was sworn at and abused, but suggested again if nothing else it could be a legal problem for them if it hurts another dog or person.
  3. I understand how you feel about Feather, every morning I roll over and check Gilly is breathing. My biggest hope is he goes in his sleep. I know when winter is coming because he dives under the doona., last night it wasnt that cold so he was under the top doona not the two of them!. I don't know what Cedro and I will do when he goes Cedro has known him all his life and I have had him for 21 years, so it will be very hard for both of us. But he isn't showing any signs of leaving me, he is a bit weak in the back legs, but can still jump on the bed, he also zooms everyday. When he stops those things I think it will be his time.
  4. They both are just like the pigging dogs you see up here. They often have wolfie in them and a mix of other breeds. Swampy is down right lovely.
  5. It has flowers that change colour from white to purple. Someone on here will be able to put a pic up. The colour change is why it has its name.
  6. I made a felted bag for a friend it was out of BC fur and worked well once felted. But I had it everywhere while doing it, so much got up my nose I swore I would never do it again!
  7. There are a pair of Bernese here in town, I see them ever day as they saunter along my street on their daily walk.
  8. Thay said that here as well but its warm and wet and BOM says frost tomorrow so that means its clearing tonight. We were so hoping it would snow here.
  9. I love these little guys, they go well with Fauves. I agree we cant get enough pics.
  10. I have just come back from a lovely walk with Cedro just to get the paper but it means he has to walk amoung other people of all kinds. We had a good time, he met lots of interested people and behaved really well. He went into the newsagency with me and had his pic taken as our mascot on the steps of the gallery. It was a positive thing for both of us, so instead of going out of town I will now go to the main street more.
  11. What I found handy when I checked my dogs every day was letting them swim in the dam, wet coats made it easier to see ticks. Dogs loved the swim and I found the ticks. One of the reasons I moved here was because we don't have ticks! At that time I had a Blue Healer and a Lab, they went everywhere together, the lab got lots of ticks and the healer hardly got any.
  12. Oh thankyou for this article, my dog has problems with his collar if it gets tight and he has exactly what the article describes. Sometimes he wakes me up with the noise and I panic thinking he is choking, but it doesn't really wake him up. Thanks you have eased my mind.
  13. Funny yesterday there were no currawongs here, today there are thousands, they come with winter and come spring they go. I love their calls it means winter is coming.
  14. I think they dig to make the hole more comphy most dogs do it, all mine have. Proberly goes back to when they were all outside dogs.
  15. Gilly started going under the doona a few weeks ago so usually that when I put a coat on him. He is 20 this year and has bandy back legs so he needs a warmie in winter. :)
  16. Poisen takes about five days to kill them its very slow. In those five days they do things they normally wouldn't do. My house has been swamped with mice lately, its that time of year when they come inside where its warm, especially up here.
  17. My first reaction was there would be a huge amount of poo somewhere. But don't they look healthy and happy.
  18. I HATE the BSS pages we have one here and the amount of cross breds with stupid names is silly. I had an argument with a man who was selling Bassadors basset cross labs. I asked f they were going to have their hips ect done. As both those breeds can have problems. Then it was on. Shut you mouth you bitch ect Then it got really nasty and everyone on the page had a go at me. Then he threatened me, I asked if he was threatening me and if he was he should be careful because that sort of stuff is illegal. Then it all imploded. The night before he did the same to Fi. I was concerned because the pups looked a bit like a black short haired Fauve! We also get a bloke who travels through here every now and then buying whole litters of pups so everyone thinks their crosses are worth 100s of dollars.
  19. Lately I have been having huge blue black wasps in my yard. I have to watch Cedro when he is out there, he thinks any thing is worth chasing and I don't want him stung by such big wasps.
  20. Id love to go with my Basset Fauve de Bretagne Cedro. He is a French dog too.
  21. I have one who goes under, he will annoy me until I lift the doona for him, that's Gilly. Cedro sleeps on top of the doona. I used to have Anna on the left side of the bottom of my bed and Cedro on the other side. Now it doesn't feel right without Anna, it feels unbalanced. I also know when summer is here because Gilly stays above the doona and when winter is coming, like now, he goes under. Its funny when I go away for a holliday I sleep really well, I recon its because there arnt dogs arguing with me for space!
  22. Thank you everyone for your kindness. I held her tight when she was given her wings and told her I loved her. She new what was happening and went very quickly. It was heart breaking but I am thankful to the vet he had worked with her through her illness and liked her so I was glad he was the one at the end. He told me the last lot of tests had come in and the specialists said they recon she had a tumour. That was one of the reasons she had signs of dementia, it came so quickly, one day she was ok and the next she wasn't. Even with her meds there really wasn't anything else I could do. It was a hard decision but I loved her to much to let her suffer.
  23. Anna came to me after retiring from her show career, she came with her son Cedro. She had a few show homes but no real home she could call hers until she came here. She was only with me for just under 3 years but boy she got under my skin and I loved her more than I can say. She was beautiful to look at, a great prepresentative for her breed Basset Fauve De Bretagne. She had a lovely gentle way about her and settle in with me as if she had been here for ever. I don't know what I will do with out her calmness around, she helped centre me and just loved me when I was down. She went to sleep peacefully with me holding her. It hurt so much but she was very ill and it was the only thing I could do for her. My little family is one member down now we will miss her a lot but I am stronger knowing I gave her a good retirement.
  24. I wanted her to have two days of eating whatever she wanted but she just wont eat. So today we are going to lay out in the sun together and I will have her close to me. Her dementia is awful she just stands there not knowing were she is. To see such a proud wonderful dog who had great manners and a wonderful way about her like this is heart breaking. She did not diserve this kind of death.
