  1. That's a wonderful offer DDD but the stress of travel would kill her I think. I had a long discussion with the vet yesterday and feel a lot more confident today. He said the meds can be worked out and she can be fairly normal once they are settled. She isn't interested in food but is drinking so that's a relief. I cant put her through an operation because she has had a major one in the last few weeks, so that's out and anyway with her condition the way it is she wouldn't survive. Hopfully today I will have a talk to the vet about her meds and work out what she needs.
  2. Im in the bush with only one vet here. He didn't tell me the cause but what it might be, she has cortisone levels of 676. We have been back and forwards to the vet for a while no trying to find out what was wrong with her. Another vet at the clinic that organises the meds ect will talk to me this week. I think she has had this for a while now, she hasn't eaten again since Friday, before that it was for three days. She looks like she has given up. Ive seen that look before a few times.
  3. My Anna has been diagnosed with Cushings and the vet thinks she has had it for a while. Its been like a rollar coaster, last night she ate a small amount of chicken, first food in three days. When she came back from the vets she threw upp all the meds they gave her. She isn't interested in food today and is very quiet. This has been going on for a month or so up and down. She isn't happy either. We are off to the vets next week to organise meds for her and after seeing the time lines for this disease, I feel we don't have a lot of time Anna and I. But I will do what is needed and take some of your advice about blending food and see if that will work. Its so hard because she loved her food and would eat everything. Now she wont eat anything its hard to see. I only found out late yesterday so its only just hitting me and Im crying for my lovely girl.
  4. My Anna has been not her self for a while now and has lots of different symptoms so I took her to the vets again yesterday. We had already tested for heaps of things so they tested for Addisons and she had the opposite brining her into the range of Cushings. I expected to have her for another 10 years. Its hard news for me although she has only been with me for 21/2 years it feels like I have had her forever. She has all the symptoms now I see what they are. I will do what I have to do to keep her happy and herself. If anyone has had a dog with this can you tell me what it is like and what to expect. The vet has me given info and I have an appointment on Monday to work out what meds she will be on. The paperwork says 6 months and 10% live to 4 years.
  5. I nearly lost my 19 yr old when his two mates died on the same day, when I brought into my home Anna a desexed female and Cedro and entire male a few months later Gilly came back to life, it took a few months but we got him back and he now zooms with Cedro everyday. I have only had a small scuffle with Gilly and Cedro over a bone. I now give them a bone each and watch them eat it just in case. But I have to say Gilly is still boss and Cedro waits at our yard gate for him and they run to the house together. Anna just stands back and watches. Cedro is past two now and all his hormones are there but he is still happy to be third, his mom is second.
  6. I just have to say I will always have some in the cupboard just incase, it has helped her heaps.
  7. Yep there is but I only gave her 5ccs. ps to say the person who told me about is a vet nurse with a long history with dogs.
  8. I have to tell you what happened to Anna with the same problems, last Thursday she started to go down again but she ate. On Friday she didn't eat and was sort of flat, Saturday came and she was getting worse so I organise a trip to the vet on sunday. Friend rang and told me she had heard about Raspberry cordial and Giardia and bacteria in the gut. She got me some and dropped it in and I gave Anna some that afternoon about five. About 6 she came into the kitchen looking for her dinner, I had some steamed chicken for her, she ate it all and anything else I offered her. The next day I kept it up and she was even better she seems now to be a lot better and is her bouncey self again. When I think about it she hasn't really been herself for a while. Im not saying this is a cure Im saying either what was wrong went away or a few doses of raspberry cordial helped it go away. I used cascade raspberry cordial half and half in a 5cc syringe twice a day. It cant hurt and if nothing else it tastes nice. I thought about it because I had caught her a few times eating my raspberries, dogs love them and blackberries as well.
  9. Basset Fauves were bred to hunt small game, dear ,boar, hare, rabbit and they love to run after a scent. Not all come with the nose that Cedro has, but even if they are rabid hunters they are still wonderful companion dogs. Very gentle and love people. A ps about Tibbies I saw heaps around the temples in Laos, lots of crosses and purebreds everywhere.
  10. I would love to be able to use my breed to do what they were bred for. But it is impossible here so they are pets. Just to be able to see a pack work would be just amazing. Im lucky that although they have big drives they are also wonderful companion dogs.
  11. Ive been there, Cedro is very sneaky and can climb anything. he seems to know when I am not watching him for a minute and he is off. When he does get out Im a mess, I race around trying to find him, but he travels so fast its hard to catch up to him especially because I don't have a car. I must loose a few days of my life when he gets out. I live on the highway and he has no road sense so its a combination of a few things that make it so stresful. Im glad you little bloke is home safe.
  12. Yes Diva they are the names he used. He said the same about hunting and killing of dogs, he is a bit radical and a vedgo but has a big heart. One of the dogs is a bitch with her pups. I send him those addresses.
  13. I have a friend who lives in Spain he often takes in dumped dogs and finds homes for them. he was telling me yesterday how bad it is in Spain for dogs. At the moment he has 8 dogs most of them hunting pups/dogs he is looking for homes for. If anyone knows of a good rescue please let me know.
  14. Happy birthday oldster, my 19 year old Gilly sends you a wag. :)
  15. Cedro is constantly under foot, he just cant help himself. Especially when I go out with a basket full of washing and cant see my feet, that's when I swear at him. I rolled over in bed last night and heard a bump and it was him, I don't think he really woke up, he just got back up and assumed the position. :)
  16. My two Fauves and Gilly would welcome them in after some loud barking, they would annoy them for a while and demand they be taken for a walk. :D
  17. Thanks for that, they sound similar to Fauves, intense but really people friendly. Fauves love people. I wonder if they run them with Fauves in Europe.
  18. Some of those paintings are beautiful but the wording is strange. I love pics with dogs would love to see some with fauves and Wolfhounds. They often used the two together.
  19. Can you tell us more about the breed? He looks like a ratter or a rabbit/hare hunter. What is their prey drive like? You could put info in Breeds 101 on DOL. Im just interested in what kind of dog they are. I have just seen they are a hound would go nicely with my Fauves, they would colour co-ordinate!
  20. I feed raw but had Anna on steam chicken and rice for a few days until she went on strike and looked at me with 'not that again eyes' so I fed her raw again. She hasn't had a wee in the house or needed to go out for nearly a week now. So what ever it was the ABs killed it. :)
  21. Dog my two would have been on its tail with me attatched. Lately there has been a Wallaby in the paddock at the back of my place, luckily they haven't seen it but they have smelt it.
  22. Cedro ate his way through 3 pairs of my prescription glasses, the first ones my optician felt sorry for me but the other two were full price! I am very lucky I don't have dogs that steal very much, they are too fussy.
  23. This sounds a bit like my Anna, she was flat with terrible poos they thought she had a mass in her stomach but when they operated there was nothing. She is back to herself now after huge doses of ANTIBs. I recon it was the water, I saw her drink out of her clam a few times and vet said something similar about a bacterial build up in her stomach. She had the beginning of an ulcer. So that could be another idea, the differences in water in different towns can be big.
  24. This is what Im looking for for next year I need someone who knows hounds as well.
