  1. As an old dog lover I have to say its very hard at times. Two weeks ago I had to give two of my dogs their wings in one day, its a hard thing to live with. I dont think I could face an older dog just yet, but it is very worthwhile, they love so much and really dont have many problems. But as others have said its very expensive so you have to keep that in mind when takeing one on. I love oldsters they are the best.
  2. Thanks everyone yes I have a hole in my heart it will be there for a while I think. Yep he was 19 a good age for a working dog. Molly was 15.
  3. I had to give both Bob and Molly their wings on wendesday, it was a very hard day for me. My home is too quiet and Gilly is so sad, he misses his best mate Bob. Molly was too sick and after I came home from the vets I found Bob had had a stroke and was unable to walk or stand or see and he didnt know me at all. That memory of him in my yard falling over will stay in my mind forever. So Vale my big boy Bob, he was 19 and my sweet new commer Molly, she was 15, both had good lives but its very hard to loose them. My life isnt what it was.
  4. My lot are all old so not that many bad habits anymore. Molly barks at me to hurry up in the shower so I can throw the stick for her. Bob has dementia and walks and paces all the time. I f he isnt asleep he is paceing , he has the same habits that my mother has, she has dementia as well! You have to laugh when your mum and dog do they same things. Gillys worst habit is screaming when he has his nails done oh and annoying Bob by licking his face. The three of them for oldsters arnt bad at all. They are 14,15 and 18.
  5. :) Hullo LB how are you? look around for auctions I know they have them down here every six months or so. Also check out the shows, they often have chooks. That way you can get in contact with the breeders and see whats around your area. But I reacon there would have to be some livestock autions up there. beth
  6. My last adoption girl Molly came to me in mourning. She is around 14, had lost her loved owner and he best doggy mate, she had also be left on a farm while a new home was found for her. So when I got her she was a mess, she nearly ate my fence trying to get home. She missed her people so much, I stayed with her for a few weeks, not letting her out of my sight. She slowly came around, she realised I wasnt leaveing, Bob and Gilly let her be boss and finally after 6 or so months she was settled. She hasnt tried to escape for a long time and she is happy in herself now. Sleeps by my bed and is always near me. They were going to give her her wings but she adapted well. Even though she is old. I have a friend who had a similar experience with another BC. So it isnt the end for old dogs, you just need consistancy and patience.
  7. I am 60 and have been on a list for a puppy for a while now. I have thought about my age and getting a new dog a lot. That could make me 75 given a pups lifetime average. It does worry me a lot that I wouldnt be able to care for a dog at that age. I reacon for me 65 would be the limit depending on the dog. I am happy to take on old dogs because I love them so much, but a pup has to have a lot of considerations before I commit.
  8. This stuff is so inspireing, I get allsorts of different ideas from it. Great photos everyone.
  9. Damn Im seeing art everywhere, thats great Pers. Everything seems to be tweeking my inspiration at the moment, wish I could follow it through. I love black/white/grey.
  10. Thats a wonderful shot, you can see the families and their lives sorta looking out the spaces. Look at that chair? on the right. I could see that in an embroidery.
  11. I have bodies in my yard that have been there for years, slowly breaking down. Our inhumanity is so inhuman.
  12. I dont know how old Fat rat was but he died last night. I found him with Mo curled up next to him he was cold. My poor little boy, you were bitey and alone then I got Mo to keep you company and life was better. You came with 12 brothers and sisters from the crazy lady and you were all I had left. I will miss you grabbing your banana every morning. I suppose it was just too cold for you. Hope you meet all my other boys at the bridge and there is plenty of banana and porridge there for you. I wrapped you up in some lovely warm felt so you wont ever feel the cold again.
  13. My blue heeler Ringer saved me once. I had been thrown from a horse and hit my head, we were a few ks away from the farm so the bloke with me had to leave me and go and get the farm ute to take me to hospital. I had been unconscious and came too and was told not to fall asleep but couldnt control what I did. Ringer sat next to me and barked at me everytime I looked like sleeping, because I was alone she was the only one who could help me.She kept me awake for the whole time it took the ute to come and pick me up. She was only a very young dog, not yet a year old! She was just wonderful I loved her dearly.
  14. My first working dog was a ACD called Ringer. She worked with me and a GSD on a dairy farm. She came from a cage outside a pet shop in Gympie.Good at cattle and the best mate I ever had.She worked with me for a few years, then we moved and she stopped working. Thats when she got toey, because she had nothing to do. I walked her a few hours everyday and I knew my home was safe from burglers and I was safe when she was there. A few times she stood between me and a threat. Ringer was ok when my lab Judda came, they became firm friends, but she hated my neighbours ACD. To the point if I didnt tie her up when he was due home, she would race after the ute and jump into it when it was still moveing. It was interesting that when the Lab picked up ticks Ringer didnt, they went everywhere together, but she never got a tick, although Judda had heaps. But she was made for work and loved to work, when she stopped she got sick and I lost her to cancer. But I did have 8 years with her. She was my best dog.
  15. My mum had one she was a beauty. Lovely temp and very much a terrier. There is also a scotty owner here in town.
  16. I gave my old boy Blake his wings last year, he had a huge cancer that had spread. He was about 16 not sure of age as he was a rescue. I still miss him heaps.
  17. Your dogs always look happy. Love the windy one.
  18. I gave Gilly Comfotis hopeing it would help with his allergies to fleas. Made no difference whatsoever, he is still scratching like crazy. When I use Advocate his scratching stops within a few days. My dogs dont seem to have fleas, my other two are ok.
  19. That brown wasnt a happy camper. They are the only snakes that make me nervous, even when I see them on here. Taipans I love, Tigers and Adders are cool, but Brown snakes no.
  20. Does anyone know a way I can get four baby ratties from their breeder in Mittagong to me here in Glen Innes. All the transporters want $300+ so Im looking for a way around that.
  21. Crazy Prices had some a while ago.
  22. My new girl Molly will steal if she can. She is on a diet and she hates it. I was a bit lax for a few minutes the other day and she stole half a kilo of chicken wings.
