  1. I wash Gilly once a year. My dogs will swim in fresh water when I go to my friends. Thats when I wash Gilly, because he loves to play in the mud. My dogs arnt smelly at all, well I cant smell them.
  2. All three of my dogs surive up here without coats. I have a BC a JRTx and an old kelpiex, they all sleep inside in front of the fire. My old BC (16), I often find outside at night when its freezeing, laying on the grass asleep. Ive found with the JRT, if he wears a coat, he doesnt develope his own winter coat.
  3. Wish I knew how to link I would put Jesse's useful tricks thats a great clip.
  4. My Gilly who is a JRTx would love to catch a mouse or rat. He will wait for hours for them to come out. He spent most of yesterday trying to catch a wild rabbit that was in our yard. Loulou the JRT is sometimes a wonderful mouser, she is more interested in snakes though. But she will catch and kill mice and rats.
  5. Now that song is stuck in my head.
  6. Wow what a pic. We get similar up here in spring time, but not as obvious as that. Wonderful stuff.
  7. My dogs live with 9 rats, they share the house and ignore the rats. BUT my old JRTx Gilly will chase and kill wild rats. He knows the difference, I think proberly because one of my rats used to pull Gillys wiskers when he got too close to the cage. Gilly is 11, the other day he spent half the day sitting by the fence, a few feet away from a rabbit hutch. When my neighbours saw him and thought it was cute, I told them if he caught their rabbit he would kill it. Because he is a terrier and thats what he does. They have a SBT and had no idea she would do the same. They thought because they liked the rabbit she would as well.!!!!!
  8. A sign will not protect you if your dog bites someone, on your land, or any other land.
  9. Im sorry you died without me knowing. You didnt even have a name, but I still cared about you. Your ratty mates will miss you.
  10. I would love to see Flyball in action, I think it would be wonderful to watch. Wish wwe had it up here.
  11. Up here 1080 kills lots of things, for example Quolls. I would much rather people hunt in the National Parks and take the deer/pigs/rabbits whatever introduced species it is. Because baiting is so destructive. Lot of piggers up here, cant say they are all nature lovers, but they do love their dogs and the money they get for 'wild boars' from overseas buyers.
  12. I found a whole litter of pups floating down the river up here. They were all dead. It happens, because most farmers dont desex their working dogs, so they constantly have pups. There are lots of slae yards around the area, so the chance of finding who did it is pretty slim.
  13. Im on a list for a Basset Fauve de Bretegne, when I saw a pic of them and did some reading, I realised that this is the new dog I want. They are wonderful little, out going, family friendly dogs, they have no health problems and they love people. I love their scruffyness as well. This will be the first pure bred dog Ive had, so I am looking forward to it.
  14. When you see pics of this dog when it was saved, it looked really confused and traumatised. Then you see his face when he meets his owner again and that smile is just wonderful.
  15. You can buy a poisen that suposidly doesnt have secondary poisening. That means other animals wont die. Because its not just dogs that eat mice, all the Raptors do and other native animals. I dont trust any bait. I would use traps. Rat/mice poisen takes days to kill, which I reacon is really cruel.
  16. Geez he doesnt look like he has been starveing, wonder what he has eaten.
  17. As rat owner/rescuer and lover, I can understand peoples attitude to them. But I cannot understand cruelty at all. They are intelligent animals, feel pain/love/friendship. I just ask people who are killing rats to use traps, they are better than poisen. Poisen takes about 5 days to kill, I dont want to think about the pain they must feel when dieing. There are many rat lovers on this forum, who would be discusted reading this thread.
  18. You said your in the bush, have you got a well fenced yard? Just throwing a frisbee or ball, would give her some exercise. Maybe use a rabbit skin and use that for throwing and retrieveing. Ive had a young kelpie as a rescue and know they are energy machines, but, most working dogs are tied up when they dont work. So they do handle no exercise. I wish you luck.
  19. I was waiting for a train at Cental in Sydney, feeling like a country mouse, when I noticed a bird fly above me. It was also a hawk, it showed me there was something good about the filthy city.
  20. Im glad about the rabies, thanks for the info, its really interesting. Bob used to catch bunnies all the time, I used to worry about the mixo, but he just got healthier, so they wernt bad for him. I think is good that dogs can do what they are naturally good at. I have rabbits in my yard up here, they dont last long.
  21. You have rabies over there dont you? Wouldnt that be a bit of a risk eating the wildlife.
  22. Noone has mentioned Basset Fauve De Bretgnes they are pretty cute as well. And JRTs go pretty high on the cuteness scale. Can someone put a pic of a Fauve up for me please, Im useless at pics.
  23. I love that look on Ralphs face. He is a pudgy one eh.
