  1. I wonder if its part of the stuff DNA has on their front cover ? fifi PS: any wolfhound results ? pweeeze :-)
  2. Mammary cancer is quite common in dogs. We see it a bit in older bitches who've had a few litters or bitches that were prone to false pregnancies. fifi
  3. She looks just like a malt x crestie that a client bought from a pet shop. cute little thing :-) fifi
  4. Seems to be different in each state. Just talking to a friend in SA who said a practice ring / using the empty ring is normal, whereas in NSW the eye daggers could kill !!! I think a practice ring is a great idea, horse events usually have one. Maybe not close to the ring where your judge is currently judging though. fifi
  5. :D Agree, very relevant & very much what friends & I were discussing this week. fifi
  6. totally agree with what's been said about getting him assessed in the ring, field trials ect. And don't forget, if you are approached for stud duties, don't do yourself & dog a disservice by accepting just any bitch. make sure its to 'selected bitches only' and check with your breeder - as in many breeds, some lines just don't 'click' with others. Personally, unless you've had a great deal of experience in your breed, I would'nt be contemplating stud/breeding. remember if you choose the bitch / bitch owners unwisely - the dog ALWAYS gets the blame for a dud litter !!! fifi
  7. :D :) WHOOHOOOOO ! well done Erin, Hilary and your beagly Good luck in Melbourne too fifi
  8. jpandkt08, perhaps you are a very experienced dog person, and have had giant breed puppies in the past. But as many here don't know you yet, I guess there is a sense of DOL'ers trying to be helpful with advice. Giant breed pups do have very special raising needs when it comes to diet & excersise, so many would feel a need to advise or assist you raise a healthy baby :-) fifi
  9. JPandkt08, I don't think anyone has been intense or questioned your intelligence as you've mentioned. In fact the other thread was very informative and polite. What I do see is many experienced dog people - some with a lifetime of knowledge to offer, advising you in response to the thread you began. for every one successful breeder's terms, there are many more that end in tears, trashed friendships and legal action. people here were merely giving you the benefit of their hard won knowledge. fifi
  10. Yes, this is us too. although I do give them large recreational bones (whole legs ect.) And one of mine actually bloated on chicken frames Kaffy, I'm so very sad for you and the puppy's new owners, all the love and care you put in, send them out to a wonderful well chosen home who've done the right thing with feeding. sometimes things just happen, no one's fault, totally tragic. So caring of you to offer another puppy. I guess it will depend on how the family get through this loss, but so lovely for them to have a caring breeder who shares their tears. hugs hugs, fifi
  11. Didn't they manage to kill a couple of healthy Koala's too ? at least one that I know of. fifi
  12. Yep, and well done for seizing the koalas from a chlamydia free population, exposing them to risk and then returning them to the once chlamydia free koala population !!! I don't think the people of Gunnedah will be filling the dontation boxes for the rspca. fifi
  13. Totally agree about the thank you's ! I emailed Dognews a while back to thank them for the wonderful coverage of our show in their paper, and recieved such a lovely and somewhat surprised response at my appreciation, I gather not many people take the time to thank others these days. My mother is very big on 'thank you' notes, and as a child I was encouraged to write them. I think that spirit is often lacking in our modern world. fifi
  14. :D ;) OHNO.....milo snort all over the keyboard and the very shocked cat that was asleep on my lap !!! made my day !!! fifi
  15. Yes, we always leave lots of room, and most of the dachies where we show know my wolfhounds, but you still get the odd one do just that.....the little glances behind......!! fifi
  16. What happened with the cattle Christina ? fifi
  17. Yeah, I wait until their little legs have carried them most of the way round !!! fifi
  18. Fret not Fifi! You've still got fear and intimidation in your repertoire. Make sure to turn your Wolfie round and bait off the Group 5 dogs. oh lordy, I read that as BITE OFF !!! I do feel sorry for the dachies if there isn't a breed between us.....big hairy beast breathing heavily behind the wee mites !!! fifi
  19. Ah yes and the stacking of ringside with your cronies to cheer wildly when your is gaited. Oh no, my jig is up !!! time to find a new rent a crowd !!! I remember when mobile phones were first on the scene, people were even using them to distract at ringside !!! Maybe I'm just jealous because I'm not the shape for a miniskirt or low cut top to grab those fringies !!! fifi
  20. I have to admit to not enjoying some of the pro-handler style handling thats creeping in. The over animated dogs, the manouvering of dog & handler to obscure those actually IN the lineup, the subtle moving into your space as you move off, the excess noise, bait, and pantomine. I go to enjoy a weekend with my dogs, friends, and to show my dog on a playing field where sportsmanship in honoured and you feel that with a good dog you have a sporting chance. fifi edited to fix stuff !
  21. Great to hear :-)) And I hope your poor handler is recovering ! Same thing happened to me a couple of years back at our specialty. I had run the young dog for his class, and we went straight into the next class - and a judge who wanted quite a few laps !! Coming down to the humidity of Sydney after our tablelands had triggered my asthma, and halfway round the first lap with my 2nd dog, I just stopped being able to get enough air :-( I ran out of the ring and a fellow exhibitor grabbed his lead and said...."you or the dog?" I gasped "ME" ! and he ran straight into the ring with him and finished the class. I was so grateful, sportsmanship like that makes the odd sour grape a small thing. fifi
  22. Just heard this from a friend. An owners nightmare. I hope the reward will have results. Such a lovely family, young people who are always ready to lend a hand. fifi
  23. Huge hugs to you Anne, freeing Faith from suffering was an unselfish act of your love for her. fifi, danny & hounds xxx
  24. :p You have brought more shame to registered breeders than any BYB. As a ANKC breeder, You are SUPPOSED TO BE THE BENCHMARK FOR GOOD BREEDING PRACTICES. ;) fifi
