  1. If only they came with a little window to see what is going on inside ! US is a good idea, a skilled operator will give you a better diagnostic postion. All you can do right now is stay positive, be available for the vet to discuss it with you, and hang tight. Sounds like Mason is in great hands. hugs from another big dog owner who has been there too. fifi
  2. still sending good vibes, when do they expect your little guy out of surgery ? Dogs with obstructions usually present as being unwell - vomiting, loss of apetite, watery diareah ect. It's usually the only way owners find out its an obstruction or other bowel issue. and often takes x-ray, ultrasound, palpation or knowledge of the dog eating a potential hazard, for diagnosis. Don't think that you 'should have known' ect. pups are great at mystifying us ! fifi
  3. sending good vibes, I've been the nurse for many of these ops, puppy's & babies of all kinds are so oral & will swallow anything ! Hopefully all will go smoothly, and its an easily removed obstruction. its amazing how quickly a youngster will bounce back from major surgery. fifi
  4. we have a large hydrobath, but for a quickie wash, I use the 'rose on a rubber hose' attachement to the laundry taps, its too cold here for a hose bath !! I have also stripped down to the undies and washed them in the shower with the flexi shower head. fifi
  5. Storm, this must be so heartbreaking for you to see your girl like this. some vets will place the dog on fluids & AB's and/or anti-infamms, especially for younger dogs in case of infection being the catalyst. Other vets find crate rest to be sufficient. All but two of the younger dogs I've seen with this have somewhat recovered within a week, a couple did have residual slight head tilt though. I've not seen recovery in a geriatric sufferer. Your girl is only young, I'm hoping for a full recovery for you. remember to supervise her drinking & eating because of the choking risk with head tilt. fifi

    Satu

so sad to read this Wolfsong. Satu had your loving arms when she most needed them. I'm sorry it was for such a short time. hugs, fifi
  7. Thank you for all the loving support. We have bought a lovely semi-advanced Claret Ash tree to plant over Tamsyn, our other dogs who have gone to the bridge over the years, have a mixture of liquid amber & pussywillows growing. we are doing okay - but as these things go, grief comes in waves - one minute fine & then it hits you again out of the blue. fifi

    Rip Darcy

It's a sad couple of days here Rysup, I'm glad your boy went peacefully in a time of his choosing, no time is the right time :p hugs to your family. fifi
  9. Thank you all for your lovley words of support. This has hit us very hard. The other hounds seem lost, and our sh*t stirring happy lassie is not here. If anything was happening in the yards - you could always find Tamsyn at the centre of it, a very big personality. fifi
  10. Thanks all, its been a shitful few years with loss - mostly our older hounds which is devastating - but when they are younger it just guts you. fifi & danny
  11. And one from a series taken by our very own Cordelia at our specialty in 2006....thank your Jack with all my heart, I treasure all the pics you took that day.
  12. Two pics of Tamsyn as a youngster....
  13. Thank you all, we are utterly desolate tonight. it helps to honour her with a thread & appreciate the support. fifi & danny
  14. It's with a crushed heart I have very sad news to share. our beautiful girl Tamsyn...CH CuCelt De Ja Vu, was put to sleep this morning after two days of recurring bloat that ended in Torsion. Our Tamsyn was only six & a half years old, and survived Torsion surgery two years ago, her survival chances were very bleak this time and she was held in our loving arms till the end. my heart is shattered. Tamsyn had a lovely but shortened show career, and kept us on our toes in the paddocks, as she was our supreme huntress. we would haved love Tamsyn babies to go on with - but her first torsion cut short our hopes there. Goddess speed my beautiful girl, I cannot believe that you are not just outside the glass door - with your nose pressed on the glass waiting for me. wait for us all at the bridge my love. fifi, danny & hounds
  15. How heartbreaking for you Rascal, I was only just reading about Brani being due to whelp. did you lose them all ? many hugs fifi
  16. We often twist wrap the newly empty scrotum with vet wrap, if the owner is dog savvy & the dog easy to handle, the vet wrap is removed in the evening of the day's surgery. The scrotum is barely swollen & shrivels much more quickly. Over the years, I've occasionaly had an anxious owner return with the dog the next day saying that we 'didn't take them out' !! some dogs swell more than others. fifi
  17. You three look so alike Oscarsmum, I imagine that your Dad and your Nan are a part of you and around you in your daily life. Seems like a good day to raise a glass to their lives, and to yourself as a survivor & their legacy cheers, fifi
  18. I guess we have to wonder at the meat too ? I know that officially no hormones are allowed to be fed to poultry & other animals for consumption - but I look at the over muscling & rapid growth of mass farmed animals & feel mighty suspicious of what we are potentially feeding our dogs ! somewhere in the food chain things have changed me-thinks ! fifi
  19. My old girl developed Hyperplasia as she matured, her mother & grandmother did the same, as did her daughters, in some lines endocrine issues are very heriditary. I didn't find any difference in dam or daughters with different foods - wether it was a raw diet or one with a kibble base, although I imagine a dry food high in soy would be an oestrogenic. We ended up desexing, as one of the daughter's hyperplasia became so pronounced with each season that she prolapsed. fifi
  20. That is such a lovely tribute.........damn.....more sand in my eyes..... fifi
  21. that is a beautiful photo Persephone, her gentle spirit shines in it. And although you can hear her earthly body being buried, I bet Sally's spirit is kicking up her heels - flat gallop in the paddock Will you be planting a tree for her ? more hugs darlin' fifi
  22. :p Oh Persephone, I'm so sorry to hear about Sally, She looked beautiful and loved to the very end. huge hugs my sweet, I will light my favourite cinnamon candle to wish her spirit onward. love fifi, danny & hounds xxxxxxx
  23. three beautiful DOL babies gone too soon You did everything possible for Charlotte, hugs to you and her breeder too.... fifi
  24. ;) That is so sad, many hugs from our clan. fifi, danny & hounds xxxx
  25. Jeddica, a staghound isn't a breed, its a common name for any X-bred using either deerhound or wolfhound, crossed with usually, a greyhound. Although any mix of deerhound/wolfhound/anything is called a staghound these days. I think there are a few pig hunters here, but they tend to discuss the cross breeding and pighunting on the boarhunter type chatrooms. I know many local responsible pighunters & their dogs are very loved & well cared for - and there are heaps of websites to cater to them. Being a purebred dog forum, breeding x-breds isn't widely supported here, as so many unwanted litters end up in the pound/rescue) But lots of people here own & love their x-breds, and of course are a huge part of this forum. ( I have a rescue mutt as well) We'll look foward to seeing how your pups grow. fifi
