    Evie

I'm so sad for you & your family Deelee. I've been reading about all you tried to do. You did a very brave thing - many others would simply have dropped Evie off at the nearest pound for a lonely death or some other families' heart to break. I know you tried so hard, some are just too broken to fix. hugs, fifi
  4. One of my wolfhound pups had an accident at eight months of age that required a femoral head ostectomy, as well as extensive pelvic surgery. Luckily she was a smaller girl and bounced back like you wouldn't know she had no femoral head. her gait was affected, but she had good mobility and her ligament/muscle strength became the hip 'joint'. I did crate her strictly during the long recovery period (oh boy was'nt that a fun time with a baby giant breed in a crate !!!) and only very tiny ON lead outings in the back yard for toileting. If we'd had access to a canine hydrotherapy centre, I think Didi's recovery would have been even better. I feel your quote is very high, but I'm thinking General veterinary charges, not specialist fees. fifi
  5. What a handsome little man, He looked so full of himself I'm glad he had a long & happy life with you Pebbles. huge hugs from us here. fifi, danny & hounds xxxxx
  6. hehehe.....don't dong yourself too hard Oakway, I had never even heard of the things until I lived in South Aust years ago !! fifi
  7. sounds like a Loquat tree, what colour is the fruit ? take a sample to a plant nursery & keep the dogs inside or locked away until you find out if its toxic. fifi
  8. Yep, immediate castration would be my first port of call. Given your dogs age, I'd be doing it now as his anaesthetic risks increase with age. I'd also be doing pre-anaesthetic blood work to ensure he is in good shape for a GA. fifi ETA; we also had our boy castrated when his prostate became enlarged, He had other health issues developing, but his urinary relief was almost immediate from the surgery.

  11. I'm so very sorry to read this, been following Cassie's thread in showring. Too young and precious, you must be shattered. Some beautiful verse posted in this thread, Cassie is being sent over the brige with much love. fifi
  12. Elfin, the tests are done on the same day, the pups are fasted for 12 hours & taken into the vets for a blood test, the pups are then fed & another blood test is done. It's all done in a few hours. Most good vets are able to take the bloods and send them for pathology tests. Results are usually emailed / faxed to the vet within 48 hours. expect to pay around the 70-100 dollar mark per puppy. Different forms of PSS exist in different breeds, in some breeds the mode of inheritance can be traced, Some views is there are times when PSS can be polygenic - IE; a random occurance or possibly congenital origin. So altough its fantastic to test and have a health guarantee, remember that nature's random acts can collide with our plans ! http://www.vet.utk.edu/clinical/sacs/calendar/ fifi
  13. In wolfhounds, the pups are tested once at six/seven weeks by a pre & post prandial (feeding) blood test. Usually a bile acid test on the collected bloods. In most cases they are tested once only for their lifetime. fifi

    Rip Scamp

so sad for you Moops. What a little cutie he was, and the cat must have taught him about the many lives of a cat too - he certainly gave you all many frights. But got to a lovely age. hope his little mate is not missing him too much. many hugs from fifi, danny & hounds xxxx
  15. Oh DA & Snowy, I'm so sorry Ellie lost her fight, you all tried so hard. What a beautiful girl - your photos made my cry DA - they really captured Ellie's beauty and the little mountain lion inside. run free & wild little beauty. hugs from fifi, danny & hounds xxxxxx
  16. Hi Shmoo, How is little Sweep this morning Shmoo ? thinking of you both. fifi
  17. Shmoo, has the vet mentioned Cushings disease ? it fits with the symptoms and the pred history. hugs, fifi
  18. Shmoo, did she say why the hyperglycemia ? in dogs its usually (not always) a symptom of an illness, rather than the problem itself. Have they had Sweep on a drip ? Urinalysis may reveal more at your vets. sending huge hugs your way. What sort of specialist has she recommened ? fifi
  19. Sending a motza of healing thoughts for little Sweep. and hugs to you Shmoo. hoping news is good. fifi
  20. She doesn't look skinny in the pics, she looks quite fit. She may be light in bone or a smaller frame GSD, rather than an underweight one. EPI = exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, she would be thin with often dry flaky skin or coat, cow pat yellowy poos. fifi
  21. I'd definatley be at least doubling that kibble amount and adding a fatty meat. The amount you quoted wouldn't keep a kelpie in good condition. And if weight doesn't start to appear once you up the food, as suggested, bloods to eliminate EPI or thyroid. fifi edited as you posted at the same time, have you tried adding tinned sardines to a meal ? most dogs will become more appetant at the taste/smell, or some pan juices from meat cooking will often stir them to eat.

    Snoopy

:p I'm so sorry Smisch, what a tragic way to lose your handsome little guy. jump & run at the bridge Snoopy fifi, danny & hounds xxxxx
  23. No the noraclav is an antibiotic. fifi I think dalmatians get uric acid stones, the dally people will know more.
  24. If its struvite crystals, did the vet put him on meds to normalise the PH ? fifi
  25. Hi Elfin, we don't allow zoomies in the house because of injury risk, and also we like to teach the wolfies that inside is for quiet behaviour, otherwise it could be chaos !! I like the older pups to build muscle by galloping, but not with other dogs who could knock into them. the younger dogs are allowed supervised time with an older dog, but no wild stuff until over a year old. I've made the usual mistakes in the past with my first wolfies by over lead walking, crashing / growth plate inuries with rough play (luckily nothing requiring surgery or permanent) and now have learned my lessons :-)) fifi
