Flash'smum, I would be crating/penning Harry, its a huge surgery and you need to be careful of post surgical complications. I would ONLY be taking him out for a little toilet toddle on lead, and crated 24/7 for at least a week. fifi

If it was twisted, its similar to GDV, exept only the spleen twists. (splenic Torsion) He is a lucky boy to come throught the surgery & recovery, I would be keeping him very confined & tiny meals through the day. Hope Harry has a smooth recovery & is back to normal soon. fifi

Great news Lorraine, onward and healthy from here on in I'm with dogbessotted, as a vet nurse, its usually one of the first path tests we do when given the presentation & symptoms. Great to hear Zedley will be back to his handsome & happy self. fifi

Lissa, if you can get a copy of the ABC programme 'Landline' the episode done on the New England farmers doing wildlife corridors/tree planting and reneneration, its the best argument I've seen for change :-) Farmers generally don't like being told what to do, so work verrrrrry slowly !! fifi

it is very sad, and at least this little one was cared for at his end. I also see needless suffering in the huge flocks on farms all around us - BUT we do have one local farmer who sheds his vulnerable sheep in winter, doens't winter shear, and has spring lambs - not winter lambs born to shorn & miserable ewes. He has great paddock rotation and many wildlife/windbreak corridors. And his flocks are content, have less stress & disease and produce healthier lambs & beautiful wool. his profit is good and mortality rate very low. The other farmers do what they do because 'that's how its done' and then complain when they lose stressed and sickly lambs & ewes. It's difficult for them to open their eyes to a better way. fifi

That is so sad staffyluv, so tragic for the dog - and even more so because as you say, it could have been prevented. I know accidents happen and dogs do get out, but sounds like this one could been avoided. I'm sad that it's a dog you know & love too. fifi

The biggest danger with chicken necks & gulpers, is the danger of choking, they are just the right shape to lodge in the trachea. if the dogs are gulpers, I'd probably give wings or mince the necks. fifi

FABULOUS news !!! this has been a very difficult time for you all. Please make sure that the vet records very visibly on Mason's medical records that he has a severe reaction to the dex/vacc. Maybe even record it yourself in red on his vaccination card too. happy homecomings ! fifi
