  1. By the way, I love your signature, looks like a beautiful place !! fifi
  2. I have a very simple rule - all stock is well fenced off seperate from dogs. Apart from flock bonded herd guardians like Maremmas, you are basically placing pedator & prey together in a very tempting mix. good fences would be my only solution. fifi
  3. oh No - another precious youngster taken too young. run at the bridge Amy, what a beautiful girl - I'm so sad for you Rysup. you must be devastated. fifi xxxxx
  4. oh Cassie, I'm so sad for you and your family. What a brave and heart destroying decision to make. crying here for you and Oakley, words can never say how you must be feeling. hugs from us fifi, danny & hounds xxxxx
  5. At four months, one of mine would be getting breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. fifi
  6. Oh Pix, you've had to make the toughest decision of any dog owner - and you didn't dodge the heavy burden of doing the right thing. run happy and free at the bridge kaeleigh. hugs to you dear Pix. fifi, danny & hounds xxxxx

    Goodbye Ben

hugs to you & your family Horus, run young & free at the bridge Ben. fifi
  8. we just use the milk bottles by themselves, any rope or string can be a strangulation or choking hazard. Just remember to take the plastic ring off from the top. throw some kibble into a 3ltr one and watch them kill it for the bits that come out the end !! Mine never liked tyres for long, they taste rubbery !! fifi

    Dolce

 I don't know what happened Choppa, but hugs to you for the difficult decision you had to make. Rescue isn't just about revolving doors for dogs from pounds into any home, it's taking responsibility for the dog & its future family, and ensuring everyone is safe. And good rescuers have to make some awful choices and take the burden of the sad decisions. Some dogs are simply to dangerous or damaged - we have had them here too. ;) So run free at the bridge Dolce, and be happy. fifi
  10. And one of the bonuses of the used milk ect bottles, is they are made from FOOD grade plastic, unlike some of the cheap dog toys wich are sometimes made of toxic vinyl products. ours also love 'dead' ugg boots !!! (although they have been known NOT to wait until the boots were officially discarded ) fifi
  11. we use the two or three litre plastic milk bottles, rinse them & take of the plastic ring from around the top, and peel the sticker off - the dogs love to kill them, push them and run with them ! sometimes I'll pour in a handfull of kibble, that doubles the fun as they try & get it out the little hole ! also old towels with several knots tied in them are good tug/chew toys. we chuck the milk bottles in the recylcing after a day or two, and keep an eye on the old towels for frayed threads. cardboard boxes are great BIG fun toys too - very messy, but again lots of fun for no cost, and can be recycled !! And nothing beats a nice big knuckle bone for sheer joy !! fifi (who has seen the quick demise of even the most expensive dog toy in minutes with wolfhounds !!)

    Victoria

oh Dru, I'm so sad to read about Victoria's passing. hugs to you and little miss G from fifi, danny & hounds xxx
  14. oh Hounder, Bree is stunning ! sighthounds and the larger breeds like leonbergers ect. are such a long time in maturing, with so many changes in body & coat. Thats why many breeders sell a potential show puppy as just that ...... a POTENTIAL show dog. Because there so many variables in growth, all you can go on is your very early assessment, knowing the lines, and good raising. I don't really think mine are fugly ! they are precious in every stage ! but sometimes you look at a young dog and think....... :D !!! fifi Hey Raz, I think you've got competition with doghouse for a wolfie now !!!
  15. at four years old...
  16. Hi, yep - puppy uglies are have many stages ! with wolfhounds, you get the fuglies at 4-6 months, 11-15 months, and some in between ! just don't overdo the exercise, and keep your puppy trim and not fat. the coat will change a couple of times, and you will get 'bum high' and wither high moments too. here's a few of Tamsyn at the fuglies, first three months, one year and then one of her as my beautiful adult in the next post. fifi

    Rip Chevy

how heartbreaking for the family, especially the poor kids. At least they did everything they could, and maybe take comfort in maybe they wouldnt now have the girl if not for the important things they did right. poor little pom boy. fifi
  18. Hi Puggles, yes, coronavirus can be tested for, but most small or country vet clinics usually only carry a parvo test kit, and not all HGE cases involve vomiting. so it can be a case of symptomatic treatment until diagnosis. So sad for your loss Dean fifi
  19. its a very nasty disease, and can strike adult dogs, some will have the already mentioned symptoms and there have been deaths where the poor dog simply bled out internally in their sleep, with very little or no obvious symptoms. in adult, its often associated with elevated clostridium spores, where a compromised immune system may be involved. if the parvo test is negative, its difficult to tell if a pup has HGE or Corona virus - but iether way as the OP said - vet immediatley, as pups have such a short time before dehydration and shock set in. fifi
  20. run free and young at the bridge Silver, It looks like she had the most wonderful and loved life. hugs to you and your family NAO. fifi & hounds
  21. I think one of the problems is that company's will change the recipe or mix, depending on prices of ingredients, supply, ect... We used supercoat as our mixer with raw food for ten years and all did very well with not a single bloat issue. then I noticed the ingredients change and also swap places on the list ie; the meat went down and grains & fillers went up. Same thing happened with bonnie, full boar, and boomer. Our dogs began to look crappy, lose weight, dry coats and have nasty poos. We finally gave up and tried a few different brands, but have been using Optimum for a while now with success. We like to feed a large proportion of raw, but often find supply difficult or prices inflated in a small town, and have to have a quality mixer kibble. fifi
  22. that's so sad and so wrong. a vast majority of dogs would do the same - a cat chaser does not nessesarly equate with 'dangerous dog'. Mine would have done the same to outdoor 'prey' if they had been teased and excited. condolences to his owners. fifi
  23. what a lovley tribute to a loved hearthound. He sounds like my old poundhound Liam, who is also at the bridge. you gave each other so much tunsa, dogs like Boffa leave such a huge footprint on our hearts. hugs to you all, fifi
  24. :p such a sad and tragic loss, please accept our heartfelt condolonces. we have a breed that also suffers GDV and can understand the sudden, utter shock and sadness you must be feeling. Lloyd looked like a beautiful Saint. hugs from ours to yours fifi, danny and wolfies xxx
  25. sorry Palane, had to laugh ! our Sox was THE most un-housetrainable puppy we've ever owned (affie of course) She changed as soon as she had her own kennel & run in the outside dog shed, (12 months old) and at about 14 months, could reliably come back into the house for hours at a time. At one point when she was five months old, we nicknamed her 'shitcasso' because if we turned out backs, she would poo, (ON the newspaper - bless her cotton socks ) then dip her front paws into it and PAINT THE BLOODY WALL !!! NO KIDDING.....it was very artistic.. ;) we tried all of the training tips that have been mentioned, but hers was just maturity that changed her habits We loved her dearly, but was the MOST naughty puppy I have ever encountered. Good luck with Imy ! She will grow into a dainty princess - who will grace your lounge sweetly, and pee OUTSIDE !! fifi
