sorry Sway....the tablets are straight down the hatch !! they are disgusting if wet !! your feeding / exercise regime sounds fine, she might just have a noisy tum ! I'll ask my boss next week at work about the noises. fifi
-
Sway, I'm unsure why some dogs have a louder tummy noise, but in two of mine that had a history of 'gurgly' tummy, both went on to suffer bloat (but did not torsion) Now if I hear the 'gurgles' I give two DE-GAS tablets straight away (available from supermarkets ) and the gurgles subside. With our breeds, its also a good bet to divide the meals into two, we feed in the morning & evening. Where you mention she plays through it, I'd lock her up for at least an hour, and tummy disturbance combined with exercise can be a GDV risk. Also NO exercise after meals. Of course it may not be anything serious, but with the deep chested breeds, I'm always super cautious. What are you feeding by the way ? fifi

just returned from the vets, where my lovely Didi was put to sleep in my arms, an old injury had finally caught up with her, and she told us tonight it was time. On the weekend I recieved a tearful call from the owner of Didi's brother Banshee - his heart had failed and he was also PTS in his devastated owners arms. Didi was so much like her mum Tara, the dominant girl, and Banshee was a clone of his mum in looks too. Run at the bridge you two, and watch out for mum - she'll keep you in line ! with great pride & sadness, here are their piccies... first two of Didi - Diamhracu Diarramair - taken today - we knew in our hearts they would be the last. And one of Banshee - Diamhracu De Banshee with his owner. fifi, danny and the hounds

oh hell and damn, Trish - I'm so sorry, nothing I can say will make this easy for you or your daughter. especially as your family had made a connection to her. hugs to you all, fifi

some dogs don't tolerate milk well, from memory don't produce lactase to digest lactose, however - our dogs have always had goat or cows milk, we used to live near a goat dairy and they feasted on raw goats milk, and over the last eight years, a neighbour sells us his exess raw cows milk in large amounts very cheaply. (yes I know....raw.... but we've never had a problem, come to think of it, neither have we since we drink it too !!) our dogs still have a warm milk supper - even the older one's. If they dogs have it from an early age, and digest well, I don't see a problem. fifi

Paula, thank you for giving Shadow the kind of life she should have had from the begining. I bet she's running at the bridge with only happy memories taken with her. hugs to you all fifi

what a shock, hugs to you all. fifi

so sad when we get the news that one of our baby's has gone, they remain part of us no matter how far away they live. I'm so glad for you and Tia that she lived every dog's & breeder's dream, a loving home where she was treasured. hugs to you and her family sags. fifi

Imy, I'm sorry to hear about your fluffy-bum chooky, I know how attached we can get to them. I hope her Lillypilly tree thrives. My son had an ancona chook that used to sit on the gate post in the afternoon, and wait for him to come home from school, she'd jump onto his shoulder and snuggle into his neck like a cat. when she went, we were all in tears. hugs from fifi

I Have To Teach My Wolfy To Play With Me
fifi replied to Daisy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi daisy, only four lessons....!! well thats about average for a wolfie !!! I didn't mean to sound harsh in my post, I'm rushing around packing for show, and posting as I run past the computer !! Poodlefan makes a very good point too, sighthounds do not like change, and Bree's place in the pack may be constantly changing with new fosters, or she may be bonding only to you in place of her pack behavior - as you are the constant in her life. fifi -
Kaffy, I cried when I read your post & looked at Kaya's beautiful, beautiful photos. your heart must be ripped apart. Hugs to your family from ours. stay safe with the fires. fifi, danny & hounds

I Have To Teach My Wolfy To Play With Me
fifi replied to Daisy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
;) I'll throw my hat in the ring here....... Daisy, is there a reason you keep Bree at obedience ? sighthounds usually hate repetition, and its a very unusual wolfhound that will find any interest past the first few basic lessons. (there have been some amazing wolfies who've exelled at agility, OB ect, but they were carefully selected for their real interest, and are not usual for the breed) A wolfhound's usual answer to the 2nd request for any command is..." do it yourelf, I've already done it ONCE" !!! Sighthounds are only usually triggered by REAL prey, everything else is just a yawn, unless its playing with other dogs. Dashiel loves to fetch, but he is only one of a handful of mine that have ever enjoyed a repetitious game. Sighthounds love to go for a run and return to their owners side, they were bred to be a thinking hunter - and to return from the hunt as a loyal housemate. Bree is trying to tell you that obedience is far beneath her noble bearing ! (actually, many female wolfies do have a sense of nobility and refuse to do what they percieve is lowering their dignity- to put a human name to it anyway.) edited to add; I guess my point is that all the training discussion in the world, cannot change the breeds characteristics, sighthounds require a whole different mindset & rarely respond to the same training / expectations / results as kelpies & GSD's. fifi -
oh Beth, I'm so sorry to hear about Wags. hugs to all of you, fifi

so sorry to hear of Bess, Rozzie & Mr Rozzie have the most treasured of hearts, taking in the oldies and loving them fully, to see you describe them is like you've loved them all their lives, even though some are with you for only a while. join the Mudgee gang at the bridge Bess... fifi

With a prolonged recovery, most vets would keep the dog in & monitor, with modern anaesthetics, its unusual to have your dog groggy this long after the op. Do keep an eye on him tonight, let him sleep - but see how he is if you try & take him out on lead later, for a wee. If he is still unable to stand, I think I'd be giving the vet a call to advise him. fifi
