  1. Rozzie, thinking of you and your dear oldie, it does sound like renal or heart problems though what a great life you give your furkids. They want to stay around forever. hugs to ya fifi edited for afterthoughts
  2. A registered breeder is bound by the governing body's code of Ethics, and registered breeders do not let thier pups go before 8 weeks. Most toy breeders I know, rarely let their little ones go until at least ten weeks. Aside from the ethics, the pup's six weeks vaccination has not had time to fully immunise the pups, placing them at risk. I'd be asking for the breeder to hold them until they are ten to twelve weeks of age. Being so young and tiny, and thier owner away at work, is asking for problems, and with the hot weather, dehydration is one of them. fifi
  3. Trish, we know how bloody hard you tried with Flynn, doesn't it make you angry when you know what a lovley dog they could have been, if not for a bad past....which you tried so hard to overcome. Sweetheart, its the difficult one's that have so much character, but also drive you to the end of your tether. We just can't save or place all of them, but damn, I know you never stopped doing your best for him. Rescue is a game for big hearts with soft centres. love fifi, danny & hounds xxxx
  4. :D mine get a vegie mix in thier chicken mince, I juice fresh vegies, mix the juice with the pulp and into dinner it goes! some nights, I'll just chuck in some chopped greens. fifi
  5. oh Cass, what a shocking and devastating way to lose your baby. Only one year old... hugs from us all here, to you and Mr Cass. fifi
  6. you must be gutted, too young for the bridge :D hugs and thoughts are with you from here. fifi
  7. Thanks so much for everyone's thoughts, we are still feeling numb. Thinking back over the last little while, Molly had been handing the baton to one of our other girls; teaching her to lead the howl chorus, I remember saying last week, that she was giving up her job as lead howler. The changing of the guard. many thanks from fifi, danny & hounds
  8. Thinking of you too Tracey & Dave, old dogs are so precious. fifi, danny & hounds
  9. This morning we woke to find Molly (Artagnan Aibrean Re) looking very unwell, rushed to the vets. at the begining of the year, Molly suffered bloat and GDV, survived the surgery at eight years old, but during surgery, her liver was found to be in bad shape. She has been really well, but this morning was PTS after vet advice, she was in pain - with a very bad prognosis. We have buried her next to Liam, her heartmate. Molly was our matriach, our 'old bag', our wild child, if there was any trouble..Molly had started it... You know the difficult one's that you love because they have so much character. The one that dug a six foot hole at the back door in the dark, who refused to show after a few goes, she chose not to be a mum, but just our Molly. She was Danny's hearthound, and we are gutted. here is the last pic I took of her not long ago..... run at the bridge Molly, and give it a good chew...dig some holes, boss them around! we already miss you......
  10. sad news about your old boy, every family should be raised by a 'Stan', My family had danes and rescue dogs, and I was 'raised' by our dear old labXkelpie, who also passed at 15. I'm sure Stan will check in every now & again to know that his family is fine. hugs to you, fifi
  11. Thinking of you all & sending good vibes. fifi
  12. Aussky, your last post made me cry, but also warmed my soul. its wonderful that you are ready to open your heart to a new love. I'm sure Cadence will approve of your new baby, I wish you lots of being chewed upon by baby teeth, and chasing storms & rainbows. fifi
  13. we had success with the premmie teats, and NUK premmie one's seemed popular. And after the first week, I added another pin hole to allow a better flow. I'd also be giving Protexin, its a soluble pro-biotic specific for babies. Don't be tempted to make up the biolac stronger or thicker, so as to fill them better, it can dry out the gut and cause horrific constipation in a baby. Better to stick to the two hourly regime - although I know how exhausting it is. And I found Biolac a great milk for pups. good luck, hang in there. keep them warm too. fifi
  14. I give mine about three to four each on 'carcass' night, and each one is chomped in about 30 seconds! (sorry, another big dog person here!) but our two pharoah hounds and afghan hound get them whole, and just sit in the sun and chomp them. I've never cut them up, and the pharoah's are pretty small dogs (for us, anyway ) fifi

    Rip 'billy'

our thoughts are with you, your hearts must be ripped out to lose a precious one so young. run free at the bridge Billy, where the sun is shining and the rabbits are running. fifi & hounds
  16. I just saw this....oooh, BL - hope Kirri is okay. I hope you didn't drop any redbacks at Glen Innes thanks!! I was bitten by a redback that I sat on many years ago....the bite site itself wasnt painful, but I came up with severe uticaria all over my body and swollen face the size of a football! poor 'my little pony' give her a lick for Navarre!! fifi
  17. sorry to hear about Barney.... its so hard to lose a family member thats been around longer than your kids and been part of your life for as long as you can remember. hugs to you all fifi
  18. ;) yep, here too, I always move the bodies, check pouches, and check in case they are still alive too. Totally agree with the scavengers thing too, I once came over the crest of a hill, huge roo body in the middle of the road, with THE biggest and most beautiful wedge tailed eagle sitting on it having a snack!! I braked hard & just managed to miss them. I pulled over and dragged the carcass way off the road, with a very annoyed wedgie hopping behind, hanging on to some yummy entrails....HE was not giving up his feast to me! finally he hopped onto a fallen tree and watched me carefully as I managed to drag the poor old roo a way of the road side, he then happily returned to his feasting!! I think he was only a young eagle, and they are often the first to get hit, because they are hungry and not very world wise! fifi
  19. :D the local shooters sometimes leave me fresh rabbit kills for the dogs, but they only shoot on large properties that don't bait with 1080. I think thats a huge factor in me not picking up fresh road kill, many farms in the district bait :D and that road kill may have been slow due to poisoning. So be very careful, I'm not sure what margin of toxin the bunnies would have injested, but any 1080 is to much. Also the local farmers will let me know when they are killing sheep or cattle for thier own coolrooms, and I'll pop over with huge plastic tubs and pick up the very meaty bones. (and the more beer they consume while butchering, the meatier the bones :D ) I'm a vegie too, but my doggies love their 'dead' things!! fifi
  20. Gossco, I've posted this in your 'what you feed' thread too; you have two seperate threads on the same theme in this forum, remember before you assume that we are all numnuts, that some of us have been around dogs a long time, studied nutrition, and many have science degrees ect... so please approach this subject without the need to preach to the uneducated or ignorant. great that you want to discuss the subject, and we can all learn more, but how about agknowledging the wealth of experience that already exists here too! fifi

  22. honestly, I feel that we should be a little flexible, my dogs get a combination diet - mostly raw with a little premium kibble. We don't have a great supply of raw meaty goodies here, and I think if your dog has been conditioned to eat a bit of variety, then you are not in meltdown if the supply is interupted for one or more of your main ingredients. I feel very positive about a BARF style diet, but dont get my knickers knotted if I can't access all the bits I need. And I certainly dont want to be preached to about what my dogs eat. We had a similar thread a little while back, that became heated, as both sides were so passionate about being 'right'!! All dogs are different, and one dogs cure is another's poison. fifi
  23. what a handsome man he was, looked proud but not arrogant. he sounds like your hearthound, so sorry you have lost him. welcome to the forums, hope we can support and comfort you. fifi & hounds
