:D yep Holly, he is a gem, one night he put a dinner plate on the dog bowl table and said, oh well - filler'up, I know my place in the pack!!! gee, I sound like alpha bitch don't I ?! na, he's not downtrodden and henpecked, he just wont answer to kennel maid though! the Holly household sounds just perfect! although today, I could have cheefully had a long holiday from dogs - howling, barking and generally being naughty big boofas. Danny & have been together five years, and have never had a holiday that wasnt a dog show or on the way to pick up a dog poor man!! fifi damn I missed the pumpkin scones luvvy, just freeze and send!

 sorry, divorce is no cure either, if they dont like dogs, well they just have to go so you can continue to suffer as a dog collector! And when the only photos of your kids on the walls, are the one's where they are holding a dog for a photo! When the bill money is being spent on frozen semen!! luckily I have a wonderful partner, who just and moves over to let another dog onto the lounge! fifi

so sad to hear about your Princess Nub. She looked such a pretty puss. I think that cold numb reaction is a basic survival mechanism, it allows us to deal with immediate danger or whatever activity we need to, in order to get through. When the real grief hits, be ready and cry as much as you need. hugs from us here, fifi

Fruit And Dogs - What Fruits Are Ok To Try?
fifi replied to chezzyr's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
some of my fruitbat hounds love; bananas, strawberries, a few grapes, rockmelon. Hey Rozzie, with a full grown wolfhound standing on his tippie-toes and stealing fruit, there is no middle third for us!!! incidentaly, its the big boofy lumpskin, who trips over his own feet - but can stand on his back legs, fully stretched upwards & not leaning on the tree, perfectly balanced!!! one of my dogs hates peas, will devour an entire dinner in seconds, yet miraculously - there are the peas whole & all clean in the bottom of his bowl cabbage & onions are no-no's too. fifi -
So sorry to hear about Buddy. Buddy, go and give all those GSD's at the bridge - heaps of stick. Hugs to you Axel. fifi

 Hedds, that is so sad and beautiful, I just can't stop crying now. we know we will outlive our dogs, but knowing the end is near, its so hard to just enjoy them without thinking of what's to come. I know she will go in your arms, loved and loving. hugs to you both fifi

Rex, has your dog been tested for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency? the pancreatic problem can go hand in hand with the IB. We had a girl with both, and had her on Enzyplex, two tablespoons per day, and she was able to tolerate more usual foods. unfortunatley the Enxyplex is not cheap. our girl was immuno compromised as a pup and developed an enteritis virus, which stripped her small Intestine & led to the IB. Her poos were like yellow fatty cowpats, and as soon as we began treatment with the Enzyplex powder, her digestive capacity improved to the point where she could eat a barf diet and a little rice & chicken based kibble. good luck, its expensive and soul wrenching. fifi

when I was vet nursing, I was allowed to do 'take aways' and would vaccinate all my adult dogs at home. However for first puppy vacc. I think its the vet check if done thouroughly, is the important factor. Thats when issues such as heart murmour are detected. I did the at home version for many years, but would always take them in once every 18 months for a good going over, & I'm glad, as we were able to detect early onset cardio myopathy in one dog & get him straight away onto medication. fifi

what a huge hole there must be in your lives & hearts. we have also known the pain of multiple losses, and send our thoughts. fifi

Hope you do really well with the rest of the course slowone! we are all behind you, good thing you 'fessed up' eh? OMYGOODNESS! you are right about the price rise! I looked at enrolling at the end of 2004, started to seriously think about it at the begining of 2005, and just looked again at the fees they have more than doubled since the begining of the year. Oh well, off to buy that lotto ticket!! fifi
-
Thanks slowone, I dont know about 'breezing through' cell biology !! its really inspiring that you are doing the full course, is it a degree or diploma? I will just do a cert course or two for a while, then really want to get more into the physical therapies too, as Erny mentioned, and I agree - they really need to be learnt hands on. fifi
-
OOOH Slowone, thats EXACTLY the course I've been wanting to do, I've decided to do a few of the certificate courses first, as the cost is prohibitive. They seem to be a quality college, how are you finding the study materials, do you think its worth the $$'s? Their website was very informative. I'm a qualified vet nurse, and use quite a lot of holistic medicine at home. (I did quite a lot of a human naturopathy course many years ago.) I hope you really enjoy it, learn heaps, and share your knowledge here!! fifi

Soniq, so sad to hear about Tyson, of course he will be at the bridge, keeping all our dogs in line. hope a new little life will bring you joy. fifi

I'm a shep, we use the kiddie wading pools from the toy shop - the type with a plastic style tubing frame and a blue tarp liner, they are a great size, wash easily, and have 'give' in the walls that helps us to rescue a little wriggly who might have crawled behind mum, and would be squashed in a rigid whelping box. (they are so good at disappearing, while you are busy grabbing one from under mum's elbow!) They last for one wolfie litter, then the tarp is washed & used for something in the tool shed! the added bonus, they are cheap - around $25 max, they are a good width & length and depth. And you are not using the same whelping box repeatedley, and unless your whelping box is plastic or fibreglass, I really don't think the wooden one's can be fully sterilised for another litter. fifi

Bob, thanks for sharing Beasley with us, was he your foundation sire? and your new babies, are they part of his legacy? You gave a loving gift of a gentle exit to the next place all our love for your loss. fifi

my understanding is that the whites of the egg contain albumin, which can inhibit some nurtrient uptake. we feed egg yolks, and sometimes the fresh egg shell wizzed in the blender, I've always given pups a few eggs a week, great source of protien. fifi

you go Georgie boy! Hope he is around to guard pork chews for many more years, give him huge hugs. fifi

Sidoney, if ever there was a 'good' passing, Amy had it, she has done more than most of us could dream about for our dogs, beautiful babies, outstanding achievments in the ring & field... And your loving arms as you held her ready for the bridge.. thank you so much for sharing these heartwrenching days with us all. We have been there too often, but cherish the memories of our hearthounds. And while any loss is hard, we can reconcile the gentle passing of a loved old dog, its the very best we can wish for them. many hugs from fifi, danny & hounds

dear RNB, we too have a small forest in the making, once where our hearthounds, rescues, and our loved ones. Some went quickly, no time to think - only to have suffering relieved. Others were the same as your beautiful boy, too much time to think - but not enough time to spend with them. Be brave, he has told you its time, give him to the earth and a golden Elm. hold him at the end, and know how much love you've shared. sometimes I wish they would pass in thier sleep when at the end of their life, its so hard to plan that last trip. thanks for sharing your feelings, its okay to ramble. hugs to you fifi, danny & hounds
