  1. My old Rottix (RIP) was about that age when i got him desexed, didn't change his temp or calm protective nature at all It did however make him cheaper to register with the Council!
  2. Hehe...Bronx was a chunky 12kgs or so at 8weeks, his half brother was half that...Sabe is still lighter then Bronx but a good 5kgs or so but is more compact - they are roughly 40kgs and 45kgs respectively lean weight. But i've seen a lot of variation in GSD's (not just the related pair in my yard! ) some lines are slow to mature, others quick, some go through a lean lanky period forever before suddenly maturing seemingly overnight. Check with your breeder (even send some pics...most breeders love an update of their pups!) and see what they say Also yes...beef and wheat can be issues for GSD's - but if your dogs don't seem to be showing sensitivities to such then i wouldn't worry tooooo much about it, just keep the info in mind
  3. My guys have done this on occasion...i tend to give them lots of milk and egg mix laced with veg oil...they'll drink it until they turn blue but it will mean there is lots for the silica to soak up without sticking to their insides etc, adn the oil helps with the moving of any offending items just be prepared for the possible mess in the back yard!
  4. Yup...a bit less and he still gets what he needs - mind you, you can keep him on the same amount and see how he goes...if he puts on the pud a lil drop the amount back a touch until you get the right balance
  5. Aaawwww he's such a good lookin Poppet! Still got a big soft spot for the Boofer tho
  6. Euk tends to be good for putting on weight, i've recently got my nutter GSD boy back up to condition with an extra helping of Uncle Albers. Puppy food should certainly help - and perhaps feed at night (or more at night) where she'll sleep and put the food away rather then just breakfast where she uses it through the day?

Oh Oh I knew it was Axel!!!! Fell for him after seeing his pics on the Vote My Pet Site and comp Such a handsome lad!
  8. I think it's because the dog itself understands balance better - often better then we do :rolf: But in their own learning they do it with more balance and need it to be relaxed etc etc. But i think with balanced training you get a more honest way of going...if you start doling out more/mostly punishment you are doing something wrong, when you are doling our mostly praise then you are doing something right...lol. If i tried purely positive on one of mine i'd be waiting until we both grew old - lol.
  9. How much does breeding/lines come into it all tho?
  10. Not sure...i have GSD's that are half brothers...one desexed at 6months the other desexed at near 2yrs - the one done at 6months is taller, bigger and more heavyset in build then the one desexed at the later age.
  11. Chances are he'll be a bit farty, but the oil content will ease the rolls passing
  12. I consider it good for even a non budget food...lol - i have access to 'better' stuff at a reasonable price...but i've not had any issues with GB and will stick with it unless i get another pup - likelyhood is they will get it once an adult as well.
  13. If i was feeding the boys canned food...i'd feed Natures Gift For the most part if they get any canned food (eg treat/whatever) they get Natures Gift
  14. Hadn't realised the smell issue...lol...oh well - i have some lavender i need to use up anyway
  15. Anyone have the ratios to use neem oil on dogs and on the ground as a yard spray? Any links, additional usages etc are very welcome Thanks
  16. Thinking of you and the Boofer - you guys haven't had a great run lately
  17. Was thinking the same Ellz...even my cats try and steal the stuff!
  18. Royal Canin is a fabulous food and do a vet line as well.
  19. Rex - but that is on top of the two dogs she already has - i think she could actually work with the GSD she already has. Build confidence, speak/snarl/stir up on command, 'watch' etc and don't let go of the lead - she doesn't want the dog to self decide to maul someone who bumps into her on the footpath, but one that will perhaps stand with her and at least offer a visual deterance - even if just by perception. Neither of my dogs would even lift a tail to defend my OH - but they will both stand with me as required and have done so previously. ETA - no..perhaps i was wrong?
  20. Protective and not aggressive...kinda depends - much depends on the personality of the breed, personality of the individual dog and you. I personally believe nature vs nuture does play a part - perhaps more with some breeds then others eg i would expect more of a base protective instinct from a CAS then a GSD etc
  21. I don't tend to give these kind of products to my dogs monthly...eg the spot-ons i do more as needed then anything else - i find they last a lot longer then directed.
  22. They are only open until 2pm on Saturdays and they aren't open Sundays...just so you can plan your trip easier Oakway Also if you email the company they will send you i think a 500gm sample pack of each from memory
  23. Just from a bark? In Brissie if you list yourself as having been threatened or frightened by a dogs actions that dog can find itself listed as a dangerous dog without that dog even being on the same side of fence as the 'frightened' person.
