  1. Every dog is different & really is trial & error. The PP blues stuff on my boy was adisaster dried the coat & the dilution rate adjusted didnt stop the blue staining. Each dogs coat absorbs the blue shampoos differently & what is brialliant for one is useless for another.
  2. Check the ingredients of the royal canin & see what else is around. Eukanuba do fish/potatoe or roo & something (this one is very hard to get) Proplan do salmn for sensitive tummies & skin(we use this with great results. or stick with what is working .. Have you tried anri histamines ?? Do you find it worse at set times or all year?? What does the vet or yourself feel is the major issue diet oor environment or both??
  3. I use the whit & Brite for the feet/hocks. I have tried the spray on my irish & i didnt find it any good at all. For my setters i prefer the crown royale #2 spray(which i use no matter what there bathed in) & to be honest a mixture of human stuff. If you want to try natural also consider the Kelco range which i do use alot
  4. There are some that show clipped of powder puffs but apperantly it is easy to tell as there is a differenece in the way there molars sit or something similiar. We did ask a breeder who showed us the mouth of both varieties so we could see the difference as friends who are toy judges informed us of how to tell but seeing it was very interesting
  5. If its staph what meds has the vet prescribed?? We have had 2 dogs with staph,a Kerry Blue who after 4 months of high dose meds cleared up & we also had an old girl who recently had to be PTS who had a tumour that was then invaded with Golden Staph, she alsorequired certain meds & we also used a naturopath who made up a good natural potion BUT you need to now exactly what your dealing with & work in with both. What exactly has your vet treated the dog with?? If the dog has open sores then you certainly need to ensure that when bathed you dry the coat fully, not allow it to stay damp . Ask the other exhibitors what they use in darwin ,there are certainly people up there that travel about & would have good brushes
  6. If you are feeding a good diet you dont need to over supplement/Look at what your feeding & then decide what could be improved.
  7. We have boarded many danes who have lived up to 14 yrs & been feed dry only or dry combo diets. There is more than just diet that enhances d dogs life. There are plenty of alternatives you can do to just dry only.Didnt your breeder give you a diet sheet??
  8. Walks for me arent about peeing but exercise, infact mine are not encouraged to wee on walks. What you may fined is it isnt about the weeing but being on lead & weeing. With some of the show pups we now train them as pups to toilet onlead when toilet training .I have had odgs in the past for weekend shows that would not toilet at all after 3 days simply due to the lead. Try placing your dane onlead at home & allow him to toilet in your yard with reward.Dont make abig fuss when out but if you start at home he will understand the lead & toileting is more acceptable
  9. Adult vacc dogs can get parvo .Some breds are pre disposed & many say Black/Tan breeds have a higher incidience of being affected despite all the precautions. Personally if i new parvo was rife at an area & that the grounds used where a local park i would be inclined to stay away
  10. We use it alot but we get ours made up so the percentage is higher. Many from the shops are low in the percentage make up & may not be as successful as someone who can specifically make it fresh. We have used ion very sick dogs that are also being treated with meds
  11. My showdogs are bathed twice aweek & pee feathers every night. They are not done in all these natural things & have never had any issues in over 20 plus years.. Over bathing has never ever affected an y of my dogs & all my showdogs go to shows fully bathed. The thing to remember is natural as such doesnt always mean it works. Some of these natural dog shampoos i find very drying & bring the coats up awful. The red tinge most certainly can be due to diet ,sun bleach ior its the dead /puppy coat thats ready to be removed. What dioes the breeder bath there dogs in in??
  12. Try pet edge, cherry brook etc etc .They all sell nail gear its just acase of picking one or they may have something similiar here
  13. The decision is totally up to you. The breeder has been very honest & informed of the worse case scenario but only you can decide what you want to do
  14. The one i have from bunnings cost $11.99. It does the job well & now im happy that the dogs all love it i will invest in a dog one from the US but i am doing 15 plus dogs otherwise my little bunnings cheapy is perfect
  15. " just at the vets, they just look into the dogs eyes." Thats not correct. To get a current eye clearance you need to see a eye specialist not your normal vet.Your normal vet can not just simply look into the eys & tell you there fine its not that simple. If your planning to breed have you contacted your breeder??As they will be bale to tell you what you need & who in your stae would be the people to see. Some use different people to read there scores etc etc. Your Dobe club in your state would also have advice. The mouth certificate for full dentition im not sure.some did X ray through a dental specialist but i am not sure what is current or not in that area. Hips area must & scores can only be done after a set age although some breeders have different ages they fell defines"mature & ready". Most do elbows I would also check the current DNA/genetic testing & what it means in your breed as your dogs parents may have been tested & clear which means some thing may not need to be done but you will need the results from the dogs breeder but again ask them for the correct & current info
  16. The right muzzles will give you access & then you learn to use the muzzle in the most effective ways whether they be fastened or not. Many malts & malt/shih cross are right little ferals & often with the right groomers aquire a new personality of allowing you to do things that there owners cant or wont. As said ensure you bathed & soften it as much as possible first
  17. I am not accrediated but have many years experience in the dog show world grooming higly specialized breeds(20 yrs).I started to learn at 10 yrs of age how to prepare my showdogs & over the years have learnt more & more & to be honest the courses run here for accrediation could not teach me anything so i wouldnt consider it a benchmark. The masters groomer title is a different kettle of fish but again it isnt easily available to many states ,many would be required to travel(QLD) to the ausgroom confereance ) & if we run our own business have to shut down for that time etc etc People rarely ask about my qualifications because they expect they are getting what they pay for & in my case it our puppy buyers, other breeders, people asking on the streets that we get referrals. The problem is in the last few years way too many fly by nights have decided grooming is an easy job with dogs & have no clue what so ever on what they are doing but still charge top dollar.I see these nightmares via boarding & previous clients & the relately is when you ask who groomed it last the same type of answer constantly comes up The problem many of us have with the Tafe course is 99% of those who do it feel what they learn there is they need to now & its only a spit in the ocean.

  20. , don't wear any clothes when bathing LOL i just couldnt help myself funniest thing ive read all day
  21. People attend university and study to become a teacher, Sorry not a good conparisn. They study fulltime for how many years?? They have a highly qualified/experienced person teaching them. They do exams, work experience etc etc. Tafe for grooming DOES NOT educate the novice for what the profession requires & many of us have seen the work of a tafe educated person. It wasnt there fault they just did what they where taught I am disappointed at the attitude towards TAFE courses by DOL members. Firstly there are a number of different types of courses available both short courses for the home groomer and more advanced for those wishing to start out in the industry Have you done either ?/Many on this list have after being advised what it would be like & where disappointed in the fact they wasted there money. We have a number of clients ( some new to showing peoplle) who have done the home course. You take your own dog & this person took her showdog & was told how to groom it(2 day course ).Thankgod she had the sense to walk out before the person ruined the dogs coat due having no clue themsleves.
  22. The vet still didnt ask what you feed at present??? Even if you are taking it one step at a time there are some foods/treats that instantly ring alarm bells .
  23. Harry is already seeing a Vet Specialist Dermatologist, he is taking Cephalexin 300mg as he has been compulsively licking his front feet. I had taken Harry to my normal Vet for over 18 months for treatment and he had given me the same low dose antibiotics and anti fungal tablet for 18 mths of time and it has got worse, so I asked for a referral. The specialist hasnt discussed diet issues regarding the dogs condition?? Foods to avoid etc etc. What has the specialist said causes the dogs issues that requires medications?? Dogs that lick there front feet can be due to anal glands being full & many seem to lick there feet as a self soothing thing.habit over many years.Contact with something on the ground(if feet only)& treats that arent for dogs that have food dyes etc overloading a sensitive system & creating discomfort for dogs. Is it thh front feet only & does the dog have bad ears(infections, yeasty etc etc)
  24. My dogs are very very fussy eaters, always have been. There not fussy just have you well trained & you have pandered to what they decide not the other way around.
  25. I am sure if some of you salon only groomers went mobile for a day you might actually enjoy it. No way . You couldnt pay me enough to give up the air con for me & the dogs comfort in summer.I like having the toilet close by,the shower close by(nothing like having a good shower after doing some gross dog),i like the fact i dont have to spend half my day driving & the other in a little space.. As for "Having" to bath the dogs in a hydrobath, well HELOO what else would you use ????????????????????????????????????? I am presuming not having the option to hydrobath or bath in a normal bath for which we use both depending on the dog . Our business number is our private number aswell & we get calls at all times but that simply comes down to the fact people dont take our industry serious & feel that we are so desperate for work we should be grateful for the calls whatever the time off day. Boxing day our phone rang hot too due to the 44 temp & the fact those overgrown fluffies all suddenly needed a groom now .
