  1. It would be spending more time overseas doing its time residency before being able to re enter & depending on the countries & the Category it comes under can't even leave that country unless its done its time in a Cat for import country plus meeting all the current pre testing time frame & airline embargos overseas during certain weather times
  2. Reading your replies its sounds like you have made your decision & for the dogs sake the right one . If this dog is better suited to having dog company & that will make this dogs life happier then the dogs need comes first . There are times when a dog simply isn't the right fit ,sadly even from our boarding kennels we see dogs rehomed so quickly without an honest assessment & new owners burdened with a life issue & no support except it was fine here . Most of the dogs arent taken out to see how they react in real life so its impossible . I have a behaviorist friend who refuses to deal with shelters & rescues due to not wanting to listen & hear the truth or be honest on rehome . This certainly doesn't apply to all places but so many are popping up & with no accountability its sad to see both dog & new owners mismatched . Having said the above reading what the dog was exposed too in such a short time frame without having any trust or knowing you may have also added to the bad coping skills of this dog & the fact you most likely expected an instant pet has made it all stressful for both sides . This dog may well have spent its short life with another dog & very little within human company or even inside a home . At the end of the day though you need to make a decision sooner than later ,you need to allow this dog to either move on asap to a potentially better fit home & maybe look at a more right fit dog for what you really want
  3. I personally in your case wouldn’t recommend cordless . If your not doing it regular or it’s matted then battery life and spare battery is important if wanting to complete the job in one day . I would just buy a decent corded pair and depending on what you consider tidying up just buy the extra blades .They come with a #10 which you can use to clip out belly strips ,inside thigh and depending on the pants a a #4,5 or 7 which you can also use like a clip on comb to skim over over clip shorter . If coat matted far easier to use than a clip on comb i am a groomer but the clip on combs can’t do all the jobs so if you buy a 5/1 head you have very limited options . We don t use the ones suggested as there not multi purpose enough . At the end of the day it’s budget $$$ or $$$$$$$
  4. Titre test first . Most kennels will accept them,we do
  5. Keep in mind with the 5/1 you have no choice but to use the clip on combs ,they limit your use compared to an interchangeable head , The combs can be a pain & as the 5/1 blade options is short you are very limited in your uses long term .. The combs will require the coat to be knot free & clean before use & even them it can take longer to clip with the combs if not savvy with them so a second battery a must . Add all the bits together & your nearing $400
  6. Depends what your your budget is ,if you want a 5/1 head or interchangeable blades . Tidy ups in those areas would still require a clipper with grunt . Also keep in mind the added expense of an extra battery depending on how long the groom takes
  7. Has the dog had a vet work panel down . Any good trainer will want to eliminate health problems that can contribute aggression issues like Thyroid problems
  8. The boarders we had just used foot stalls .4/5 meals a day which is hard if you work .Finding the right food combos was the hardest especially for one of our Boxer clients . They literately turned most of his food into smoothies & every few days still had some harder food to give some variety but it was also based on "how " he was that day .He was a very untrained dog & as they felt sorry for him let him get away with things that didn't help overall.Quiet time after eating was something this dog struggled with so would result in bringing up the food .They struggled with letting him live life but also being proactive in minimizing some of the risks of bring up food namely pneumonia ,he suffered from this a couple of times which told a greater toll on him in the end They kept him far longer than he probably should have . We have boarded others that seemed bad but once on a good diet path actually flourished but still a lifestyle change
  9. Boarded a few dogs with it . All I can say there is quality of life and there is using measures that at the end of the day isn’t quality . It is a daily lifestyle change in so many ways
  10. fully aware of the new technology you have listed and fully aware it still gives false positives and varies on other factors Within the result tests . It is not 100% guaranteed but has helped in this field greatly . Been in the dog world a long time had a dog with parvo twice who survived many many years ago and a dog at an event recently passed of parvo . Current updates on the disease, testing options ,whether still shedding the virus is something many of us in the dog world are very savvy . Those who replied are those experienced hence the reason you may not have got the answer you wanted/ expected but answers of making sure it’s right ,have you done because the knowledge is more than just a pet owner . people answer based on the info you choice to post aka can I ask the breeder to help pay
  11. Trimming will affect the coat as does using thinning scissors . well brushed pants have length and layers which are easy to brush . Thinners and clipping alters the layers and long term encourages matting more as the hair lengths grow differently. yes I’m a groomer and own coated breeds . We explain all the pros/cons to short cut options but at the end of the day dogs get dags & knots as there not brushed regularly ,there hair is just like ours
  12. As 2 different brands where given its more a case of where the regime stands . We use nobivac for 1 and 2 and there coverage is different to other brands . If you have taken out pet insurance be mindful of what cover they guarantee based on vaccinations, for some that 3 Vacc means fully vaccinated covered . Vaccination schedules are based on the actual brands used . Puppy Vaccination Schedules Vaccines are given at the following ages, based on the brand chosen by your vet: 6 weeks of age: Nobivac®, Duramune®, Protech® 8 weeks of age: Duramune®, Protech®, Canigen®, Canvac® 10 weeks of age: Nobivac®, Duramune®, Protech® 12 weeks of age: Canigen®, Canvac® 16 weeks: All brands Most puppies have already been given their first vaccine before sale. Make sure you then check with your vet when the next dose is due. In our clinic, it’s at 10 weeks of age, for example. Here’s the same information in table form. Canigen C3/C4 Canvac C4 Duramune C3/C4 Nobivac DHP Protech C3/C4 6 weeks X X X 8 weeks X X X X 10 weeks X X X 12 weeks X X 16 weeks¹ X X X X X Protected² 14 weeks 14 weeks 12 weeks 11 weeks 12 weeks
  13. You need to brush more often ,the hr you waste each week would be better spent on 10 mins more often brushing through correctly ,wet pants not brushed will matt even more . Yes you can trim the pants back BUT it wont stop the knots as it still needs to be brushed out shorter or long & easier to brush out long pants
  14. Irrespective of costs the breeder needs to be informed of what the vet believes it has so they can inform other puppy buyers . Start there ,get a feel from the conversation as to how they may react . They may want there vet to speak with your vet to make sure its defiantly parvo . Does the puppy have health insurance some breeders pups go with 6 weeks pet insurance. Personally im not sure why you would post on a forum first off without letting the breeder know in case other puppy buyers are at risk. Parvo is a live vaccine so they will test positive whether it’s actually parvo is another thing .Many vets will say parvo but it’s not always correct Could be severe colitis hence allowing for an open conversation with the breeder
  15. No boarding kennel will take it as it’s underage and not fully vaccinated . Depends if this is a registered breeder or just someone having a litter . if an ANKC breeder pup couldn’t be handed over till Saturday anyway due to age unless they had applied for special permission due to eXTreme circumstances which this wouldn’t be . Pup can’t fly till it’s 8 weeks and will need a valid fit to fly certificate Flights on weekends are limited anyway and it would depend on where the closest airport is that accepts live freight . i guess hiring a car or counting your loses and not getting this pup and finding a breeder closer .
  16. When is the puppy 8 weeks old & ready to leave . What pick up date had you arranged prior too this?? What was the original method of transport going to be ?? Issue with many transporters & even the airlines is there monitoring the severe heat at present . Virgin has certainly informed transporters & people they will cancel flight travel if deemed in the safety of the dog . Not sure if any of the road transporters are prepared to move dogs during this heat either & it would be a risk for a young puppy . For flying depending on age it would need a fit to fly vet check
  17. Depends on how many dogs the breeder has ,they may be boarding there dog/s or taking them with them. So in the scheme of things not strange . It would be more a case of when they pup was ready to leave & what arrangements have/had been made . In our last litter we had one person phone the day before pick up to say they wanted it too stay with us for the next 2 weeks ,no drama in the end we had to phone them & place a deadline on pick up or there holding fee returned & pup resold so not always a cut and dry story .
  18. Consider raising the bowl . Water bowl players are a pain so maybe look at teaching him a play pool spot and no go spot
  19. We had a puppy buyer return her pup after a week (no drama's we take them back) . The pup became so overwhelming for her with regret she nearly had a break down . She was a wonderful loving person, owned a dog many many many years ago. Had been out & scene the pups & honestly was a perfect home we had no regrets sending her home with pup but it was like she went into Postpartum Depression. Her husband & family where wonderfully supportive but she couldn't cope & the family & great discussion with us all agreed the best choice was to return the pup . This is the worse scenario granted .
  20. There not designed for coats there just a quick fix that doesn't solve the issue just keeps adding to it Coats are designed in layers so your brush them accordingly . Most of the quick fix tools do damage the coats & damage the correct coat . I have showdogs im also a groomer .It makes no difference what you dog is the tools are still the same . Yes we own the tools but they need to be used with great care but nothing beats brushing the coat out correctly for a healthy happy coat that doesn't end up broken & damaged by the wrong tools . Undercoat rakes work on the right coat ,a comb works on the right coat & pin or gentle slicker way easier than the other tools ,lightly mist coat & brush it through
  21. Neither the coat king or furminator .Coat King if desperate & providing its the right one for your dogs coat not the generic number they suggest A good undercoat rake & a comb & brush is all you need. Spray coat before brushing to minimise breakage & static & brush weekly
  22. The issue i see with her schedule is all activities involve you ,there doesn't seem to be much time based on life skills on its own & how to cope if her routine ever changes or just simply learning to chill . I have a breed that is very active & i focus more on how to be calm & chilled more than training to be be over switched on & having a busy brain that wants to explode when it doesn't know how to "simply cope" doing nothing . The Lab is teaching manners by ignoring the behaviour ,it doesn't need to react to teach manners so make sure your reading the signs correctly .I would be working more on teaching calmness at that time than telling it off & pulling it away . This is a perfect time to teach self control & calm . I would certainly use the crate if you feel its out of hand ,the only way it will become a punishment is due to your reaction before putting it in .
  23. They make a noise when it zaps bugs and can smell . Our dogs hate them so not used
  24. Depends how you have approached the breeder regarding this ,being pushy & demanding compared to enthusiastic can be seen very differently . When you say heavily involved i guess that comes down to what you mean by that ??Are you wanting a certain nature, pretty markings, what are your priorities .I would gather you have already expressed what your wanting in your future pet so the breeder is savvy to that knowledge . If both sides haven't communicated anything that is a different issue So maybe tells us what you where expecting or hoping to do & see whether that was also realistic . We have had people who wanted to come out and do there own "test" problem is those people had no clue how to do the tests correctly, how to interpret the outcome & at the end of the day you haven't paid for a puppy but you can easily set a puppy backwards & say no not for me after breaking it .
