Rose Hip Vital - Experiences Please Any Animal
Dogsfevr replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have a dog on anitinol but hes young & more for preventive issues but do know people who i value there opinion who have had success with there dogs issues . Never had any real raving success with Rose hip & the dogs got the runs on it . Have you tried Schuessler salts muscle relexant tablets ,i have a dog on those & see more success with those & he is on them permanently -
Dogs from Asia do quarantine the requirements are just the same as any other country except NZ .

Cavalier king charles or Poodle (Let's stick with CKCS!!)
Dogsfevr replied to White_Shadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cavaliers are a sporting spaniel ,highly intelligent thrive at obedience & are highly competitive in the obedience world ,they are a real dog that people turn into needy . Yep they shed, can snore & wake the dead .They are athletic, active, smart infact i find them more stable than Poodles(again though its what the owners create ) These aren't hand bag dogs . Grooming on a Cavie is easy BUT when spayed they can get the crazy spay coat which can make it more challenging ,grooming regularly is a must spayed or not . I have owned one & have friends who are breed/show Cavies there not the breed for everyone & there not the breed many imply they are aka couch potato ,there happy learning, pleasing & being a real dog -
Plenty of Cavie owners work full time & the dogs do very well ,infact many breeders still work . Yes some will not place out in a working home most do ,contact breeders be honest & just be prepared for some No's. All dogs like company BUT it doesn't mean the stay at home family are any better than the working family infact most working families are great owners because they make the effort to go out n about with there dog where some stay at home feel there at home that is enough . How to prepare as you plan in adulthood, all dogs need to learn coping skills & how to be independent & that starts from day 1 . Raise it will respect, love & mindful its a dog (not a furbaby ) & you will have a lovely family member

Many who do the puppy email forms often just have them there for the stage when pups are born, sexes known & basic outline of what your after. Some reply often it does state on there pages the process . What breed are you after ??
-
Also many emails go to the junk pile or if like us had no end of issues with NBN & no working internet far too often. Plus many are away showing ,judging ,have life commitments yes it can be frustrating but selling puppies isn't there full time job . Email them again or phone . We get alot of emails, many with no heading, strange headings & they often end up in junk mail or the email address is deemed junk with our system . I agree Christmas is a bad time so many emails wanting christmas puppies that you do need to walk away from the computer some nights . For the DOL advertised pup make sure the heading clearly states older dog on DOL but not saying this is you but we have advertised the odd older dog CLEARLY outlining the home & other important info regarding the dog & get umpteen emails from people replying who want the dog BUT the complete opposite to the dog in question which is very frustrating for us as well or the emails that sound so pushy that this is the right pup for them you get alarm bells .Granted all should be answered but time sometimes gets away from us . Dont be in such a rush ,when you find the right breeder things will go great ,at present it sounds like you are just sending emails in all directions but not actually getting to know the breeder ,the ideas, beliefs & finding out if there the right people for you

Best grooming product brands
Dogsfevr replied to colliehound's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No to a furminator .They could use a coat rake but a good slicker, comb & above all using the tools weekly is all they need. -
Best grooming product brands
Dogsfevr replied to colliehound's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Fraser essentials especially the whitening shampoo . I always use the crown Royale #2 finishing spray . seven wonders argan oil pump for coats showday & weekly baths.Brylcreem to condition between baths Should add that i primarily use human stuff as does the greater majority of the show world & never had issues in over 30 years . I use the odd basics of dog products -
So the dog hasn't had any pain relief for 11 months??. You are after pain relief ,your dog is old & beyond supplements . Yes your decision to give it its wings also your job to give the dog pain relief & go to a vet . Medications vary so much & at 14 i would have mine on previcox so it has quality pain control Because your dog is in pain .Yes it will need blood work done & yes these things cost money but pain relief on an old dog is a priority .Control the pain & the dog just like humans will be more wil.ling to do things instead of feeling depressed with pain One would gather you have had a vet used .Dispensing quality pain relief any vet can do . Massage, chiro ,stretching exercises & strengthing exercises are all things ideally done whilst the dog was younger .How much muscle wastage has the dog got
-
What medications has she been on for the pain over the years & what kind of exercise programme have you done to keep her mobile ??. If the pain is that severe is it time to give her her wings ,being honest at 14 there comes a time where you need to decide
-
How old are the children ? As far as training did you do all the classes & are you the one who spends the most time with the dog . Picking up & screaming is not normal so have you been to the vet about that or been to a vet chiropractor.Dogs in pain can want to be with the person they trust the most . As for wanting a dog that will play with kids well there is no guarantee that will happen with any breed ,alot comes down to the kids, the dog in question & its personality & how stressed or overwhelmed it may feel around the kids
-
Be warned vets will recommend anything they sell it doesn't mean thats the right food nor does a vet always know more than the breeder .You should have phoned your breeder when the vet suggested you should change ,some brands do not suit all dogs ,i feed one dog on RC but can't feed it to others . Easy solution is to put him back on the diet the breeder told you feed ,stop bathing him & see what happens Aslo don't get sucked in buying crazy organic free shampoos .People will sell you anything again doesn't mean its required or the best .The product could be making him itch
-
So pup is told bad dog Why ? Better saying bad owners & telling yourselves off for presuming pup should know better & not setting pup up for better success. Door open yes BUT that means nothing to a pup unless you make sure the pup is taught the reason why the door is open & you making going outside fun & awesome for toileting .Pup has too much access at present & little focus on what is right . Toilet training failures is human error not pup error go back to basics ,place on lead ,stand outside & really make the effort to set the pup up for success
-
Have you spoken to the pups breeder? Is that the food they feed & suggested ? Have you bathed him in anything?

Any wonder Breed Associations get a bad rep?
Dogsfevr replied to YOLO's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its seems they brought a mutt a Lab cross Kelpie .Maybe they are wanting a pure breed club to give info for which they cant . -
Yes you need to share this info ,it’s crucial in deciding if an adult in question is the right match. Dogs are generally placed out on a trial basis which is very important because if your dog doesn’t accept a new friend you would need to consider what is the best outcome . Contact the Cavie club and talk with them ,They are a great of people who work with each other well and have a good network and understand your dogs issues
-
Contact the Cavalier club in Victoria they also deal with breed rescue but have a great community net for adult rehomes . Yes breeders will rehome older dogs that may not have made the potential in the show ring or retired from breeding & will rehome when those perfect pet homes come along . Be prepared to wait but make yourself known & if you are a great "pet" home trust breeders are always on the look out for these kind of homes for older dogs as most don't rehome without alot of thought
-
If your wanting to breed then you need to consider the pigment on the nose .If she doesn't get a coloured nose then potentially she can pass it on . I would have asked the breeder why the swap & did they know you may want to bred her ??
-
Is the pup going to be a pet or show dog. Some breeds it’s natural to take longer ,generally but 12/14 weeks if there’s no big change it’s not going to happen . Generally no big deal but be mindful if an outside pup a pink nose will need sunscreen

Any wonder Breed Associations get a bad rep?
Dogsfevr replied to YOLO's topic in General Dog Discussion
I say give the volunteer a break . People often don’t volunteer it comes down to no one else putting there hand up so the club goes under . Yes the answer is strange, maybe it’s a generated reply or maybe they just had a sh*t happens moment and sent the wrong reply . i actually don’t see how this gives breeders a bad rep though, tends to prove more that some people expect instant replies and if not what they get or maybe a mistake made people can’t wait to bitch . I say give them a break and Atleast wait for a rep,y before jumping on the whinge bandwagon . Its not like volunteers sit there to serve joe public they have a life too -
Sudden digging (4-5 year old dog)
Dogsfevr replied to EJane's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would consider yourself lucky to not have had a Lab dig for all those years but also consider in his short life he has had 3 new yards ,alot of change to a dog .Maybe he is feeling insecure when you leave with the change of yard .Maybe look at setting CCTV in that area so you can see what is going on when your out . If hes not been a real digger before then something is interesting enough out there to want to dig .Is the fence type different .The biggest concern obviously if its stratco type fencing & not dug into the ground then yes the dog could dig out . Do you have neighbours there & could they have something interesting on the other side of the fence ,are frogs more verbal in that area ?Do cats toilet around there ,as mentioned different soil . -
Best to check your state laws regarding the keeping of a deposit on an item that no longer meets your needs. Personally like others forcing people to pay deposits on unborn, non health checked ,unknown temp or even unknown suitability of a pup or how many survives is shonky but a fad that’s becoming g the norm. Means the breeder has money sitting in there account from how many people . I think you will find you are entitled to a refund and I would be pushing for one Unless you are happy with the new potential breeding .
-
Place the puppy pads outside . Does she use the doggy door . Also consider pup may have experienced trauma in the yard or very limited access to outside . It sounds like your on the right path
-
Exactly but the same applies to any bred . Maddy plenty of breeds chase to hunt ,run to hunt Greys are no more special than many breeds and as for your show bred plenty of show bred breeds have great working ability in all breeds but the constant lines from people who go on that Greys are bred to chase refer to running in circles . We all now there history and there history again like many Breeds was to hunt and also be a companion animal and one of status . I own gundogs and they can hunt and chase infact some of my gundogs are more driven than my Greys ever where People just need to use there brains and get a breed with its pros and cons and realise that that can’t turn them into something else but playing and running like a sighthound is different and for many something they have never scene before
